13 out to 26?, 21 out to 36? Bloody hell.
Not quite.
Our picks: 13<17 & 21<26 & 40-38/41

Roughly speeking
First round blows out to 26/27 picks.
2nd round about 13/16 picks.
3rd round about 10/14 picks.

Draft experts tend to go early on bids so their estimates on points consumption and pick blow-outs are often excessive.

The 2020 draft is the best guide to how this year will go down. Hopefully we don't select anymore Allison's or Highmore's. What a wasted year that was....

How do you work that out?

The 2020 draft was a crapshoot due to all underage footy in Vic being cancelled. Decisions were made based on a few preseason games & a guesstimate as to which kids would have great top age years (Allison grew significantly during his bottom age year & then had a huge preseason game from memory.)

This draft has a heap of academy kids unavailable in the general draft but recruiters have been able to watch the rest of this draft class perform and develop over the past 2 years with no interuptions.

Apparently really bad conditions. He's renowned for long precision kicking. That's all his touches in one match too. Not a curated package like some of the ones out there.
He looks like a class act to me I’m sure the recruiters will be all over this kid, might need to pull the trigger earlier than you might think to get him.

Won't some of those picks get swallowed up by matching bids though?

GCS traded out of the first round, Bulldogs and Hawthorn have an early pick and then they also traded out of picks before #21. As a result any bids before pick #13 & #21 will push them both back by the equal number of players bid on and matched before them.

For example expected bids to be matched #2 Walter, #7 Read, #10 Rogers, Pick #12 Croft therefor pushes our #13 + 4 out to #17. Bid #20 McCabe pushes our pick #21 + 5 out to #26. The points (picks) used by the clubs matching the bids will dictate where our pick #40 lies eg if there are more picks used than players taken pick #40 will come in, otherwise the opposite.

GCS have a 4th player in Graham who is expected to be bid on around pick #30, so if they still have decent picks available after that I'd imagine they would be keen to off load them. Bulldogs and Hawthorn will be likewise plus there will clubs looking to pass at around the #45-50 mark so if we are keen on other players we may be able to move our later picks up by trading. Clubs like Brisbane, Sydney and Carlton will also be looking for points for next year, so with some manoeurvring we may be able to use our 3 x 2024 3rd picks to move up this years draft order with a pick.

I hope that on the night/s the club takes 4 x players!

Clearly he’s a highly rated kid who will be very lucky to be available at our second, looks a real weapon.
Schoenmaker’s kicking is magnificent.

If you’re going to knock him on something, that ain’t it. That he’s borderline KPD size, but isn’t one, and is unlikely to “transition to the midfield” would be.

I love the look of Shoenmaker. Instant Coffield replacement on the list and the exact kind of 3rd/intercept tall that controls the modern game.

If we can nab him with our 2nd pick we are laughing!

Some of the Draft experts (from the Phantom threads) aren’t big in him for lack of ability to defend and even for being a bit of a Savage type kick. Who knows. I wonder if clubs genuinely think he’s as high as BF does.

He looks like a Sam Gilbert tall attacking backline runner. I see him as another Mason wood replacement.

I'm just referring to the phat 1st round and shorter 2nd and 3rd rounds.

2020 looks like an absolute dud year though.

Outside of Gulden (NGA Sydney) and JUH (NGA Dogs), struggling to find 5 players in the top 50 that will likely play 100 games in their careers. We didn't miss much

Having traded out our second and third round picks was a bonus that year. ( Hill , Howard etc ).

HOWEVER:
Geelong purposely targeted Max Holmes, and traded with Richmond to get our original second round pick to get him.
Is that what good recruiters do?
Of course , we probably wouldn't have noticed Holmes , since he was listed with some out of the way team.
( Dragons ).

Really? He didn't seem to suck the life out of the room at all.........

Now, now my knuckle dragging friend. Be nice. I hear you've sucked a few rooms dry yourself.

He’s a half back flanker…we have more pressing needs!

Funny enough, for a club that has drafted about 35 HBFs over the last 15 years we still only have Sinclair and Nas that are above average at it. If we could get another running rebounder we could free Sincs into the midfield. Jimmy, Clark, Stocker are all small accountable backs more than attacking HBs

They’re probably hoping McLennan and McConnell will be developed for that role

This kid is a weapon and should be viewed as such.
