Took a quick look at the players outside of the top 20 in the rookieme draft guide and Collard is the one who stood out.

I agree with the writeup that he looks a Bobby Hill/Shai Bolton type.

Would not be upset if we took him!

He looks a gun to me. He gives me Aker vibes, he's got real live-wire energy. He'd be the type that his own fans love and everyone else hates.

Most of the reviews i've seen describe him as a "third tall". So that would pretty much place him in Highmore territory.
No-one is talking much about his game style , apart from saying how good his kicking is.
The highlights i saw seemed to be mostly kick ins. Which would have padded his stats up too. His teammates also seem to dish it off to him when they can.
Still he seems to be more than a one dimensional "short" key defender. Doesn't seem lost on the wing in his highlights.

I'd like a mid, but i'm not over the moon about any that will be available to us.
----------------------------------------------
With claims on being the game’s next ‘superboot’, Arie Schoenmaker is a prospect whose 1-wood gets a whole lot of use. The left-footed defender impressed as a bottom-ager last year, cutting his teeth down back under the guidance of eventual Tasmanian draftees Lachlan Cowan and Tom McCallum.

After featuring in the Under 17 Futures showcase on AFL Grand Final day, big things were expected of his top-age campaign. Though, an off-field indiscretion saw Schoenmaker suspended from the Devils program for 10 games, meaning he was made to start his season with Launceston in the Tasmanian Football League.

The 18-year-old quickly made up for lost ground upon his Coates Talent League return, posting remarkable numbers to earn a call up to the title winning Allies side. He impressed in two games at representative level, encouraged to play to his strengths and even showcasing his versatility with time on the wing.

Schoenmaker also rolled through the ruck in the back-end of the Devils’ season, helping them take out a maiden minor premiership and reach the preliminary finals for a second year running. Lauded for his long kicking, he participated in Fox Footy’s Longest Kick competition and rounded out a busy year at the National Draft Combine.

He seems more Sam Gilbert than Josh Battle. He's third tall size but probably a bit of the kicking of Daniel Rich with more run and rebound than a regular third tall. He's unique but not sure if that will translate of not. If he works out he could be an absolute star but you could also see him not being able to find a permanent best position.

Nick Cox vibes

Adelaide and North have 6 picks between them from pick 10 to 20. Both desperate for Key Defenders hard to see Murphy slip through both clubs. Sydney has a pick in amongst that range also and need key back depth but they have never been one to take a 200cm skinny tall that early that needs a few years to develop.
Yeah, you'd think North are flush for midfielders now and would take the best key def and a ruck

At 90kg he’s already got a decent frame…could be a bit of an offensive weapon down back!

Collard was tipped at pick 14th in the ESPN Phantom and 20th by Sporting News, so not clearly outside the 20.

I love his highlights.
None of our current small forwards are great crumbers and looking at this, Collard is also able to get an overhead ball pretty well.

It’s 135 pages.

I’d recommend it to everyone. Just sign up - it’s free - and they’ll send you a copy.
Thanks for this. Just from the analysis of mids around our pick, I think I might go for De Mattia as our first, really like what I am reading about him, good size for an 18 y.o, has speed versatility and leadership written all over him.

Sounds a very likely type.

Darcy Wilson also seems a likely type. If we managed to grab both of these at 13 and 21, 40 is a free throw at the board IMO.

Gothard, Delean or Mannagh more likely for us

If it was me i think i'd take Collard with our first if he was still there.
Probably take Murphy too, ( if he slid that far ) though the thought of a tall defender first round terrifies me ever since Goddard.

Delean looks good. The other two don't excite me much. Mannagh seems to play in a fairly conventional style like Higgins does, i'm not seeing the X factor that Collard seems to have.

We'd probably be taking Delean or Gothard early if we took him with our second .
Mannagh surely a rookie spot.

If you could use him well he could be incredible, raking 60 meter + kicks to clear the press sounds pretty sweet to me.

A small forward would more likely to be taken at our 3rd pick if at all

Reading beteen the lines on what the club has said, I think its two mids with our 1st round picks (if who they target are available) and then other list needs small forward, key defender etc.

The good thing about most of the mids around those early picks is they can also play forward. Even expected later picks like Cooper Simpson, Ashton Moir and Kaine McAuliffe are handy forward/mids.

I’m a Shoenmaker fan…Edwards 1st pick and him 2nd would be good
I don't follow the young guys like some on here so this is just going off the recent articles and highlights but gee this guy oozes confidence. Looks like a Steven May-James Sicily clone. Would love him in our team. Do we know if our club is interested in this guy?

Collard could become one of the best small forwards out there.
The mid we get at those picks probably won't come close.

Probably the StKilda approach though, vanilla mids with our first picks, followed by vanilla small forward.

They will be interested in most.

They'll go into draft night with a list of names in order, crossing them off as they are called out.

Lachie Charleson would not be vanilla, kicked 8 in a game this year. But the best part is, he plays midfield very well also.

Don't think he's a Steven May clone, not as one on one, could get to his size though.
Can intercept well, similar to Sicily maybe.

The club are in good hands now with Toce' & Roughead doing the recruiting.

WA were by far the worst and weakest side at the championships this year. It would be a big risk to use our first pick on an unproven small forward, when we desparately need midfielders. If they rate him they will take him with our first pick, otherwise WCE will most likely grab him with their pick #23. He is mercurial and well rated but also inconsistent like so many small forwards. He performed poorly at the championships against the best kids in the country, so they would be picking him on WA colts form and potential alone.

He may become a very good player, but I think the club will correctly prioritise midfielders with our early picks.

How good are the mids available to us going to be?
