“Recapture the form” is a huge stretch.

Let’s just get him back on the park consistently before we anoint him, or compare others TO him.

Of course having someone in that role will assist, I was never arguing that.
Who was anointing him? What are they anointing him as? Who was he being compared to?

He was a goal a game player in the limited games he's played and if he can get back to that, he would add a lot of the forward line.

No mate it wasn’t.

Others.

Was making the point that Jack Hayes finding good form again isn’t anywhere near as bad as thinking McAsey is redeemable.
McAsey MAY be redeemable… but it’s the longest of long shots.

Hayes showed plenty in a very limited sample size… but he’s not the second coming.

FWIW, I have zero problem with us picking up Stewart for bugger all. He’d be handy depth and probably a great teacher for Van Es AND Keeler, having played both roles.

Look… I think you were mythologising him somewhat… you don’t…

It’s really not that important I suppose, so forget I said anything.

Cheerio.

Or we trade 13 into 17+18

And if we still hold 40 - trade it into next years hand.

The value in this draft is going to be who wins from the 12-30 pick range.

With Toce’s track record - part of me would like to roll the dice. (Fully aware of what 2012-2019 brought us )

Yeah the way its panned out there's no guarantee we'll choose a better player at 13 than at 17.
I wonder who North are after.
It might be Throlstrup, so that deal may only happen if Demons don't take him.

Im all for doing that if we can confidently avoid another Cripps fiasco.
we have been historically very good at keeping the homesickness away from the team once the kids come to St Kilda guys like Tony Brown do a fantastic job in ensuring they find their feet and feel comfortable away from home ..
With Jamie Cripps there were a number of contributing factors that triggered that request home
  • firstly the family connection to the WCE Jamie is the cousin of Chris Mainwaring he also grew up alongside Daniel Chick during his WCE stint so there was strong ties there
  • Secondly his medical condition he only found out about his diabetes 2 weeks before the draft so in one month as a 18 yearold he was suddenly faced with a move interstate and a lifechanging medical condition that required daily maintenance just to function was a big deal for him
  • Thirdly the year he requested a trade the Cripps family had a very close family friend pass away suddenly and unexpectedly - Jamie was already pretty keen to go home before that but that really ended any discussion of trying to convince him to stay
  • Lastly StK wasnt exactly a fun place to be at that point as lots of changes were happening and lots of players were not really happy

Yes. What other sample size do we have to judge him off?

Also, what is inaccurate about saying he played well when he did play, and having someone in the fwd/2nd ruck role would help our forward setup? Should be just hypothetically talk about a poor stretch of games because he might have been crap if he hadn't of gotten injured?
He absolutely dominated-best on ground, in the SA grand final before we picked him up. Then his 1st game against the pies was great
And he's versatile, can play all KP positions.
Hope he gets to show us, as he's had horrible luck with injuries since arriving.

I am assuming we use our first two selections on midfield run and carry. Our small forward depth is almost zero now with gresham, peris, and to a lesser extent Billlings, now gone. It made zero sense to delist peris when it would only have cost us another cat b spot in 2024 unless we were targeting a true small forward in the draft. I think why wait until 40 and get others dregs. Lets show some initiative and grab the true small forward we want. He will likely be gone by 40.
Yeah I’m not that concerned with another small forward I’d prefer another mid.

I do mine five years later. Nobody is better than me at saying who everyone should have drafted.

I don't think we should take Paddy, that Petraaca guy will be really good.
Then with our late first and early second we can take Touk Miller and Brayden Maynard.
Jack Lonie will never be as powerful as Caleb Daniel , so we should choose the latter.
Jack Sinclair would be a good rookie pick. Something about him suggests there may be more than meets the eye.
Don't waste time re-rookying ahmed saad, pay him out and take his namesake, Adam instead.
Next rookie choice , Ivan Soldo, might be more effective than Tom Hickey or Billy Longer, though we may end up discussing it well into the future. Lewis Pierce may outclass him in the long run though.

Yeah I’m not that concerned with another small forward I’d prefer another mid.

It depends though.
I'd rather an effective small forward than a mid who ends up the way of Brody Murdoch.
( Good skills, can't get the ball at AFL level ).
I'm a bit concerned some of the mids in this draft will go down that path.

On the other hand , some of the small forwards may be 10 possession , 1 goal per game players, which are a dime a dozen.

Marc McGowan (the age) just completed his early whispers mock.

Has us taking Darcy Wilson at 13
Ari Shoenmakers at 21

Crows take Edwards 2 selections after Wilson

St Kilda would almost certainly grab Wilson if he slides this far. Harry DeMattia, Edwards – managed by Saints list boss Stephen Silvagni’s son Tom – and defenders Arie Schoenmaker and Hardeman could also be in the mix.

Couple of handy types!!

For those who want to read:

ST KILDA

Current picks: 13, 21, 40, 77, 82, 86

Ross Lyon came out after the elimination final loss to the Giants and revealed his desire to improve the midfield – and the big-body and breakaway speed of Sandringham’s Charlie Edwards might be the perfect fit. The Saints have been linked to the late-season bolter with one of their first two calls, along with WA pair Lance Collard and Koltyn Tholstrup. Dashing defenders Riley Hardeman and Geelong Falcon Angus Hastie are also likely to be in the mix but, before any of those, St Kilda could bid on one – or both – father-son prospects Luke McCabe and Jordan Croft.
