He looks good ball in hand.

But one on one he looks average at best. Slow in the contest.
Ball keeps going over his head and he has no impact.

I feel like there are some huge red flags when kids go from top 10… top 15 and now we are talking in the 30s on draft night in the space of a month.

Only moved to play defence this season.

Everyone in this area of the draft ha flaws but he's got a lot of natural skill that lends itself to being a defender and I think a professional environment will help develop his one-on-one skills in a way you couldn't learn at underage level.

It just seems that with the new system we’re getting further and further away from a premiership. How can you have a ā€œnational ā€œ comp that is tailored towards just 4 of its teams to win it . Then complete random charity picks thrown in for others .
I love the whole F/S concept but holy s**t it’s just won coll a premiership.
I don’t love it as much any more .
The AFL is increasingly becoming a uneven playing field. The competition is geared around the revenue derived from blockbusters at the MCG, which to my mind, means that the AFL is dependent on MCG-based teams doing well. The idea that the MCG is a neutral ground is absolute rubbish. For teams like Collingwood, who play 14 games at the MCG in 2024, it is their contemporary version of Victoria Park.

To your points about the the random nature of the draft picks given to North and GCS you are correct. It smacks of inconsistency and unfairness to the other teams that have done it hard in recent seasons. Unlike other codes around the world, where rules tend to be uniform, the goal posts are always shifting in AFL. Returning to my point, North and GCS can have all the priority picks they like, but it is not going to help them in finals if they are not exposed to playing on the MCG. In round 24 of the 2024 season GCS will be playing their first game in more than two and a half seasons at the MCG. Last year they could have won every game in the home and away rounds and the finals, and their only game at the MCG would have been the Grand Final. North are scheduled to play only one game at the MCG in 2024, the Saints, Bulldogs, and North play 5 games between them at the MCG next season. How many grand finals have been won by Marvel-based teams since it opened? In the same period how many grand finals have been won by MCG teams.

Interstate teams complain about the competition being Melbourne-biased. They are wrong. The competition is biased towards teams that are based or partially based at the MCG. In the current system they tend to get the elite players from other clubs, particularly from the GWS and GCS finishing schools. Their success gives them increased membership and revenue. I want to be proven wrong, but the last 12 years indicate a trend that I think will continue into the future.

We'll see. Not many rated Bolton highly in his draft year.

He went at pick 29. After Ben Long! You'd know more about Collard than I would, being a local, St.Cicatriz, but I'm backing our recruiters on this one.

He's an excitement machine by all reports. At worst, he has great potential and is worth more than another vanilla midfielder or half-back flanker type.
Shai was alot more consistent. He was kicking bags regularly and doing some amazing things.

Collard is very inconsistent.

It probably says more about this draft compared to the Bolton and long one.

Collard is a massive flight risk.Is extremely close to his family and wanted to stay home.I work with 1 of his cousins here in Perth and he told me whoever picks him,he will be asking for a trade at the end of his 1st contract.

Apparently is also a very shy kid,but maybe Hill and Henry will help him come out of his shell a bit.

I think the saints will need to spend a lot of time with him off the field making him feel comfortable. He is extremely talented,so was worth the risk for you guys, but I felt whoever picked him(outside of Freo or WC )was taking a big risk.
There's a fair bit of Victorian talent at both wce and freo now. Doesn't hurt to have some trade bait.

Good to get different points of view. First video showed his best highlights for the season? While in these two videos he looks physically not strong enough, not fast enough and his positioning needs work too. Wouldn't go near him at all if the above in anything like his norm. Maybe you showed his worst videos?

Zakostelsky shits all over him comparing there games in full from the youtube videos.

While we want more alpha dogs in the club, we don’t want s**t people.

Pass.

I’m not accepting of anything someone has done to hurt others.

But you have to admit at the same age you probably did your own shit your not proud of either.

I know I am.

Who’s to say this doesnt change him for the better?

The videos are just whatever’s on YouTube. So just a couple of random games from him.

You'd think if Collard goes home we get what we gave to get Henry. F2. Personally players tend to stay if the environment is good have a good coaching staff and, more importantly you are winning games.

Saints very quietly moved up the board to get pick 27 which is now 33 by amalgamating a 3rdp and a f3rdp.
As well as....in effect by swapping with GWS we got Henry for free by replacing our f2rdp we traded out.

Carlton with Camporele son will be interested in both our f3rdp for pick 34 which is a stretch. Or swap one with GCS 50 or GWS at 44 or a very cheaky Bris at 42 who may want something in the bank for next year.

I would have a swing at George Stevens if he was available later, Jobe Watson was big lumbering and slow in the beginning and he went okay.

We always complain about turning athletes into possession pigs....no reason it cannot go the other way....if he turns into a bigger version of Dunstan with better disposal I am not complaining.

We’ll package up Collard in a trade for Reid in three years time.

I’m not disagreeing.

Which is why I asked what your seeing as a ā€œfanā€ of him.

I’m genuinely not seeing it.

Truth is. I don’t care who we pick from here as long as it still looks like Best available and not a reach

We had pick 40 this year and 3 third rounders next year.

We used one of those third rounders to trade to Melbourne for pick 42

We then packaged our pick 40 and that newly acquired pick 42 for gold coasts pick 27

GWS then offered us a future second round pick to swap our pick 17 with their pick 18. To draft Leake.
thanks, thats sounds like a not bad deal.

re GWS, we got a future 2nd rounder just by moving back 1 spot. that seems great! doesn't it? unless we wanted Leake very badly?

Taking local kids is second to actually taking the best available kid. It's great to have kids local to the area but what's most important is taking a kid with a higher projected ceiling

Wilson at the moment is a better prospect than Murphy, who failed at the combine. Ollies numbers were not great. He's still there for us to take him tonight, and I suspect we will.

Pretty sure Lethlean meant targeting players from other clubs originally from our area.

If you look further down that thread on Reddit he names Arie. Seeing how far the club has come in being inclusive of everybody I wonder if we take the punt on him.

I still want George Stevens but I just don't think we will take him.

The boss loves mids that can spread, which would likely rule out big George!

Ollie Murphy just doesn’t impact the contest enough for a key back.. has little presence, looks more like a tall wing man than key defender.. do not want.

Its almost like… he’s an 18 year old that hasn’t done an AFL preseason.

Gee whiz, we mark kids hard at times.

Wilson strikes me as a good pick around the range, gives us more of that raw speed Ross is looking for. Disappointed we didn't bid on McCabe, it's frustrating that Sydney is carrying the competition in trying to make teams pay up with bids. Collard's a punt but the 3 year contract does help.

Hoping for Murphy, Roberts or Simpson with our next pick, in that order

Your above comment got me looking at his highlights.

Good in the 1v1
Happy to put body on body
Plays in front
Hits targets by foot

- Needs 10kg for AFL level

Lot to like!

Further evidence suggests he's a probable bust. Pass.
If Wilson had gone at pick 10 no-one would have blinked, was great that he was there at 18, and we got paid a 2nd round pick for choosing him over Leake.
Good point..some supporters are bloody hard to please.
