Spot on. Many clubs have supported Aboriginal players superficially but miss the deep important factors that are crucial.
  • Keeping Aboriginal players connected to culture and country
  • Structure times to go back home
  • Regularly have family members visit
  • Understand the culture and educate those around
Hopefully as a society we are learning about country and that it is not one homogeneous mass.
Liam Henry is from WA, but from a totally different country for example.
I think football have a duty to understand culture and connection.
Indigenous make up less than 5% of the population but are something like 10% of the AFL, hugely over represented.
I for one hope the Saints learnt how to be sensitive toward a homesick kid in NAZ and use it to nurture this young man. We asked him to uproot and move away. And yes us non aboriginal Australians are waking up to the fact that it can be mighty different to do so for an indigenous kid.

Appreciate the kind words Joff 🙏🏾

Does anyone else see some Sam Gilbert in Angus Hastie? The way he drifts into marks and takes the game on I see a lot of Sammy in him.

Very good chance.

Has already out on most of the weight he needed to, can play a variety of roles including half forward where a lot of kids start off and is an elite runner.

If not round one I'd be very surprised if we didn't see him early.
Both Wilson and Collard are a big chance to debut round 1, as is Riley Bonner.

When Sandy played Werribee in Werribee during the year and he came off, went straight down the rooms and was visibly upset - he knew. Was tough to watch.
His family went down after some time to see him, then the coach.
When they came out they had all visibly been upset/crying.
That was it unfortunately.

Club has stuck by him, and I understand we have to move forward, it's just a bit tough some times.

Hope he gets his body right and he gets back to playing at the highest level.

I remember meeting him straight after we drafted him. One of the nicest kids you’ll ever meet. Perfect manners, really pleasant guy. He’d done well at school and was looking at doing a degree in something in the medical or science field. Hopefully he’s gone on with that and he’ll move onwards and upwards. Seemed too smart for footy. Ended up going from whipping boy to fan favourite. Hope he feels like a Saint for life. Good luck DMac.

I'm tipping Nanna's a Freo fan.

Come and say Gooday to our ‘brains trust’ group…can’t miss us, we all wear caps with the name on them!
Love your new Avi saintmike.

I can't tell you what this Saturday's Tattslotto numbers will be but I can tell you that your primed for a huge pre season with posting.

"Brain's Trust".....gee....that's a bit of a stretch.....!!!!!!!!!

1 list spot available. Good to have it open in case someone pops up mid-season
You don’t necessarily need a list spot for that.

You gain a list spot if you have a long term injury and if we don’t have one. It’s probably hard to justify bringing on a mid season pick.

It will be if a train on spot is worthwhile this summer

Seems like we're loving guys who are willing to take the oppo on and break lines. Hope we teach them how to dish off well in tackles, they're not going to be as evasive as they were in the juniors.
I thought that about NWM and he seems ok. Don’t recall him getting tackled too often. Just makes his own space.

This table really drives home how young Phillipou was this season.

He is closer in age to some of this years draftees than his 2023 team mates. He are Arie are essentially the same age.

Been saying this for a while, he is like a new recruit with a preseason and 24 senior AFL games under his belt including a final where he would have learnt more in the pantsing he got than another 10 AFL games.
Will be near 50 games before he is 20 (all going well).
