Eagles wouldn't give Allen away in a million years, unless he absolutely demanded a trade and was out of contract. He's the cornerstone of their rebuild.
You're almost certainly right.

That being said - play along - what would we have to pay for him? Would two 1sts for Allen and a 2nd get it done?

If he could kick, maybe, but he's a terrible user of the footy.

I'd rather get some first round midfield talent in who can come in and learn off Clarry/Trac - instead of recycled players.

If Dow was a pick 60 nobody would think twice about him. He's a Toumpas level bust because he just has no poise.

Yep, that’s Dow’s problem. He uses the ball by foot like early Clarry.

I’d prefer a speculative tall forward pick if we end up with a mid season pick.

Wonder if we can convince Tmac or Brown to retire

I'd seriously hope we think long and hard before trading away any picks for established players moving forward. The list needs a good clean out and to get younger. Definitely stop going after the Brown and Grundy types. Goody doesn't deserve any more win now recruiting.

Spot on.
I reckon we need youth and enthusiasm more than we need various established players to fill perceived holes.

If you gave us a crop of first and second year players like Sydney had last year or Port had when Duursma, Butters, Rozee had their breakout year I reckon we’d win a flag.

If you let us handpick three B+ established players I doubt it would change much.

Good young players change the energy and playing group for the better in exactly the way we need.

That's probably the asking price. But i wouldn't want to put all our eggs in one KPF basket when we have so many other issues to sort.

Go get Humphrey. Looks a gun. Exactly what we need. Don't let him waste away his talents up on the Gold Coast. Unless Jefferson rises from the dead like Jesus, we're gonna need a tall forward who can compete too. Our list of KPF is possibly the worst in the comp.
Humphrey was bloody fantastic in the first half last week. Would be amazing if we could one day be the club that robs these new franchises instead of Collingwood Richmond and Geelong getting all the spoils.

Players we could easily lose/trade/cut at the end of the year to refresh our list:

Tmac
Brown
Dunstan
Tommo
Schache
Hibberd
Harmes

Salem
ANB
Brayshaw
Jordon
Sparrow

First 7 should go, pick 2 of the others.

(Obviously in reality Gus isn’t gonna be traded after the deal we just gave him, but it’s an exercise in demonstrating that we’ve got plenty of players who wouldn’t be big losses if they went).

Salem
ANB
Brayshaw
Jordon
Sparrow

Yeah there's 0 chance 2 of these players are gone end of year.

Salem contracted until end of 2026.
ANB literally just re-signed.
Gus contracted until end of 2028.
Jordon the only one possible.
Sparrow re-signed last year and is a clear Goody favourite.

All that is aside from the fact we just simply won't be trading out 9 players in one offseason (aware a few of those might be retirements)

Let's be realistic at least.

Also - You forgot Melksham.

Be realistic please, as if we’re getting rid of Melksham

5 more years of Gus playing like this (or worse as he gets older)?

God ****ing damn it.

2nd club suspension in 6 months for Mac Andrew.

When does a 'change of scenery' become mutually beneficial?

Would be a good get for our list. Could play 2nd tall and learn off May and Lever so we can move Petty permanently forward. Or has scope to play up forward as well.

Other than previously being our academy player why would we look at him? He's looked beyond shit at AFL level.

Yeah don't get the attachment to him other than we were stiffed. He might become a decent player one day but he's incredibly raw and shouldn't even be playing right now.

Looks like an amazing prospect but also the physically weakest campaigner ever. Some blokes are skinny but sneaky strong, this guy is the Thon Maker of the AFL.

Seems to have had some good form in VFL this year, averaging 20 touches and 10+ marks despite being skinny as a rake.

He's clearly talented and a lovely kick. It's not just that he was from our academy - we need some key position talent and we should be raiding GC/GWS like everyone else.

You'd like to see Jefferson put in some good performances for Casey second half of the season. Obviously he needs another pre-season before he's near AFL ready physically but if he shows that he's a genuine talent with some big performances it would certainly make our stocks look a lot stronger.

Will probably have a material impact on our drafting this year as well. Seeing as it usually takes 2 years to get a Key forward draftee up and going we're certainly going to have to go again this year if our list managers aren't very confident Jefferson will make it. I'd probably say we should anyway, but there's a number of areas to fill. Certainly don't see that we've got draft picks to spare for trades unless it's a very good deal for a very good/promising player.

Yeah I think the whole waiting on key forwards things is a little bit of a myth. They show talent early enough to spot. They might not be at their best early but if they're shit for the first couple years it's normally cause they're shit. I know Jefferson is probably 5th banana and very skinny but you'd like him to show more.

He's been hampered somewhat by us playing a very tall forward line at Casey - he's often behind Brown, T Mac and J Smith, which isn't ideal for his development.

A great chance for him now two of those three are out for the time being.

Yeah I'm getting slightly concerned, just on raw talent I'd like to see a first round key forward taking grabs and kicking goals regularly. Don't really mind if they're up one game and down the next, that happens with immature players. But you want to see that the talent is way above VFL level.

Don't get me wrong, he's got some skills and he may well still be a star. But it's also not unusual for key forward prospects to lose all confidence over their first two years in the system and end up looking nothing like what they promised.

Fair enough, but you could also say that means he'd be on defenders way below AFL level. Anyway, I'll stay positive and hope he tears apart a game or two in the second half of the year.
