We're gonna have a fair stack of cap room yeah?

Gonna guess the contracts these guys are on now but likely off our books next year:

Grundy $650k
Hibberd $450k
Tomlinson $500k
Jordan $350k
Dunstan $300k

And possibly Brown retiring, Melk on a minimal deal and Harmes maybe traded.

That's a stack of cash. Hope we're chasing a big fish.

Dunstan and Jordon would be on nowhere near those numbers IMO. 350k is about the average these days, and they would both be on contracts that are more near the bottom of the list.

Have a feeling we'll have to pay a little of Tommo's contract going forward too. Will be interesting to see what we get in a trade, that will give us an indication.

Still, agree we're in ok shape, but also remember these things would have been factored in when front or backloading all the re-signings we've done the last couple of years.

Yeah I don't think Pig, JJ or Dunstan are on those contracts.

But I love the sentiment.

Why are we trading out Tomo? The guy is a good Backman that allows Lever to play his role and Petty to play forward.

Watson is Cody Weightman mark 2.

Wouldn’t pay a pick 5 for him.

Just doing a bit of thinking - I'm probably being very optimistic but could we come away with this after trade and draft night:

  • Grundy and F3 for 28 and 41.
  • Send 5 and 41 to GC for 4 (yes sounds like it's nothing but that's another 250 odd points for GC and pick 4 is worth it for us)
  • See if GWS want split pick 12 as they don't have anything else until 50. Send them 24 and 28 for it.
  • Offer up 15 and JJ compo (there is some yeah?) for Mac Andrew and Chol. I've NFI if that's unders - probably though haha. There's definitely a need to be filled by both of them.
  • Send 34 to Adelaide for McAdam.
  • Probably see Tomlinson walk - let's say to North for pick 53 as a stop gap for them.
  • Hope like **** that McKay doesn't get North pick 3 as compo...but they get gifted Sanders instead.
  • Take 4 to the draft for whichever is available out of McKercher or Duursma.
  • Take 12 to the draft for hopefully other of O'Sullivan or Murphy.
  • Hope that we can take Brown using that pick in the 50s with only minimal points deficit for next year.
  • If we think a key back won't be available at 12 then maybe we speak to Essendon and their pick 9 for 12 and swap of our F1 and F2 their F2 and F3 next year...hopefully not though.

Out:
Grundy
JJ
Tomlinson
Pick 5, 15, 24, 34, F3

In:
Chol
Andrew
McAdam
Pick 4, 12, 53

Lose Hibberd and Dunstan to retirement, potentially one of TMac or Brown as well. 6 list spots available with 3 traded in and 3 drafted.

GC aren't trading us for an extra 250 points. That's absolutely nothing

I don’t get the Mac Andrew fascination. Guy has shown SFA from what I’ve seen.
If he came cheap enough I'd take a punt on him and play him in his actual position but the feeling I get is that he wasn't really doing much at VFL in that role anyway so they moved him into the backline to get him involved.

He also has some clear attitude issues with two club-imposed bans for off-field shit.

No. on so many levels.

1- No way would GWS part with pick 12 for 24 & 28. Not a chance.
2- Why would Gold Coast want pick 5? They'd just have to trade it anyway.
3- O'Sullivan doesn't last to pick 12. He'll be close to pick 5.
4- Pick 15 for Chol+Andrew? Not even close. Those guys would warrant pick 15 alone. The JJ compo would be nothing.

Offer Ollie Lord a juicy contract to come home.

Dixon is going around again and if Georgiades (pending knee recovery) and Marshall are playing next year, he might not get as many games. Especially if they get Grundy.

Was a super impressive game on Harris Andrews in a final.

Who knows if we'd be any chance but based on Friday night he's the perfect mix of tall forward and ruck pinch hitter to back up Gawn too. Type of second ruck we need in the side, one who is actually dangerous around goals

O Sullivan is backline Jefferson. Rather we take Caddy and just move Petty to the backline.

And you think Caddy is ready? You need to watch the tape closer mate

Feel like Caddy is destined to be a Stringer-type tweener. Won't have the size to be a proper KPF (Curnow is the exception, not the rule), and won't have the endurance, craft and defensive discipline required to be a mid.

Of course, I could be wrong, but not overly keen on using our top pick on him.

I think hes a long way off contributing. (and potentially shit) . Runs around a bit like a headless chook and drops far too many easy marks.

Agree with both. Doesn't cut it for me.

O'Sullivan will end up the better player. In fact he already is imo.

Hi guys and hope I'm not intruding.
So pi..sed off that you went down last Thursday. I have money on you winning the flag so I hope you can bounce back.
A question if I may.
What sort of player do you see James Jordan as? Is he a Liberatore type inside mid or an outside running receiver? I haven't seen enough of him this year to make that determination. Secondly, does he have a future with Melbourne as he is obviously behind quite a few at the moment?
If and I say IF, Melbourne were to look at trading Grundy to us, I'm wondering if Jordan could be a part of that deal. Grundy on his own for our pick 21 or Grundy and Jordan for our first (11)?
Thoughts.

Jordon is a free agent but I'll take pick 11 all the same.

Not really a high end need but with Hibbo retiring would Nathan Wilson be worth a look as a DFA?

They're two completely different players.
I’m aware of that because I said: would we look at Nathan Wilson as a DFA as Michael Hibberd is retiring? If I said: would we look at Michael Hibberd because Michael Hibberd is retiring? That would lend itself to suggest I didn’t understand the concept that they were two different players.
