I don’t know if it’d be a good move - would completely depend what we get for him.

I mean, if we get one of the all-time midfielders back who goes on to win more than 1 flag, 4 BnFs, 3 AAs and 2 Coaches Awards, then it might come out as a "brave" trade. What are the chances of that though precisely?

Id say that's a way of saying either trade these for experience or lose em
Yeah I think the AFL saw the flaw in giving North picks that they HAD to trade and are trying to do the same thing but make it a little more opaque so they don't have to trade them for massive unders again.

The smart move for them would be to use them to get a trade for pick 4 or 1 over the line.

Yeah they give em to WC. Then WC get two priority picks without ever asking for them. North get a start of draft priority pick without ever asking for one, and everyone else can get ****ed :)

I'm guessing Ben King

The Wizard had a strong performance in the grand final but was unable to lift his Ranges team to victory on the day. He looked his most potent when moved into the center square, generating several dangerous clearances with his trademark evasiveness and burst of speed on show. Unfortunately his conversion in front of goal remained an issue.

This looks a much stronger stronger performance than recent weeks.

Has had an average run since returning from injury but would be a great fit if he gets back into some form.

Was a defender as a junior so has a bit of flexibility which might help us too.

Wonder if we can wrap anything up to include their pick as well - or does it need to be separate for the points? We might be able to create an angle where they have to trade pick 5 to us if they don’t want to lose King for free next year - get ahead of North and WB.

He also re-signed earlier this year. Doesn't look like a kid that wants out.
Signing does show intent to stay. But contracts mean F* all these days. Who knows. Family situations change. Kids these days are so mentally fragile that their mindset can change quickly. Teams can f* up with the salary cap too, like the Pies did. If a club is dangling a bigger carrot in front of you, a big enough fish will eventually bite. But I'll believe it when i see it. It better be more exciting than Hunter/Schache combo last season.

Being contracted massively drives up his price though and give GWS the ability to walk away at any point. Off contract, our first and likely our future first would be needed. While locked up on a 2 year contract though, that likely doesn't get us close.

We have money and picks to pull off something though. And not too many clubs hold onto a player if they genuinely want to leave. It's just not in the clubs interest usually. It looks like we're trying to shale someone loose.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that he'd be worth chasing hard for if he's said he wants to come home. Him having resigned only a few months ago points to that not being the case.

Ben king makes the most sense as they've just got an elite key forward in this draft, ready made.

He’s also OOC next year and a RFA, so if there’s any risk they might prefer to trade now.
Reckon Gold Coast will back themselves in to make finals next year so losing him as a FA will give them pretty average compo coming back. Trading King now makes a lot of sense especially if doing so allows them to move up the draft order ahead of the Walter bid but that begs the question, why not just trade him to North?

Ryley has followed in the footsteps of his former Dragons teammate Will Ashcroft by winning just about everything on offer this season. Larke Medalist, National Championship winner and now topping it off with victory in the Talent League Grand Final. He was one of his team's best on the day, showing the well balanced and powerful midfield game that we've come to expect.
