12-months ago this board thought Toby Bedford was a loser and no great loss, and then went on to have a ripper year.

I am all-in on a Jordon redemption arc! He'll be the Batman to Chad Warner's Robin!

No surprise he shined in a game plan that isn't anything like ours, he'd likely still be sub material if he was here. It's almost like GWS play a game style that brings the best out of all their players and our is based around ball winners getting their stats and everyone else going to hell. :moustache:

There’s no way we are going into next year without another ruck option so I’m certain that at the very least we’ll pluck a mature age ruck from the state leagues with a late pick or rookie spot.

Mitch Edwards might be of interest if he’s around for a second round pick - but he’d be for the future rather than to use next year.

I'm thinking more a stop-gap option to back-up Gawn until KFW and Will Verral are ready.

Talking about picking up anyone delisted from North is real Skip Dip areas.

Jacob Edwards was once touted a potential top 10 pick for the 2021 draft prior to being selected in the mid-year draft. 202cm developing fwd/ruck, still only 20 years old.

Never debuted at AFL level and has a 1.5 years experience in the VFL. I have never watched him play.

Has he shown enough to get consideration as a reclamation project on a 1 year deal to see how develops alongside Verrall and Farris-White?
That doesn’t look like the type of back up we need I wouldn’t have thought.

Go get the best ruckman in the country that’s not on an AFL list - that’s where I’d be aiming, even if he’s a bit older.

Jesus christ we're trying to make our list better not worse. Edwards averaged around 6 disposals in the VFL and having watched him play he's probably on par with Farris-White as one of the worst attempts of a wanna be footballer.

Edwards is that shit he'll be playing suburban reserves grade.

Johnny Karate kept naming Farris-White as one of his ins all season in the changes thread, I think there must be something to work with there. Johnny wouldnt name him if there wasn't. :moustache:

Yeah had heard Edwards was bad and when Scythe94 posted his stats they were horrific. Bit concerning that KFW looks that bad though. Beautiful drive by in that AFL article, North chose Edwards over Newcombe, Ash Johnson and Pat Parnell. Ouch!

We needed someone to play the ruck ruck goose role. This was evident. No wonder we went out in straights.

If we did end up with say 5, 10, 13. Who would you consider with them picks. The best available at 5 then maybe Caddy and O’Sullivan?
I'll have a stab at how it could play out:
  1. Reid (WC)
  2. Walter (GC match)
  3. Curtin (North)
  4. McKercher (North)
  5. Duursma (Hawthorn)
  6. Watson (Bulldogs from GC)
  7. Read (GC match)
  8. Sanders (Melbourne)
  9. O'Sullivan (GWS)
  10. Caddy (Geelong)
  11. Wilson (Essendon)
  12. Rogers (GC match)
  13. Croft (Bulldogs match)
  14. Leake (Adelaide)
  15. Murphy (Melbourne)
  16. Windsor (Sydney)
  17. De Mattia (St Kilda)
  18. Hardeman/Roberts (Melbourne)
Just typing this, it's wild how far the picks will blow out. Could go even further if McCabe (Hawthorn FS) goes in this range.

To be clear, the picks that weren't Melbourne's aren't really selected with clubs' needs in mind, more just the range they're expected to go.

Regarding Melbourne's picks – I'll start off by saying Sanders isn't ideal as he's yet another contested animal with not great foot skills (everyone probably knows how much I want McKercher). At least he'd allow us some more flexibility with moving Trac forward etc in future.

If we can't trade up for McKercher, I feel like we almost have to take Sanders though, as we really need to bring in high level midfield talent as it might be a while before we pick this high again. I really like O'Sullivan, but if we got pick 10, I'd be more comfortable passing him up as Ollie Murphy will be there as a big, lockdown KPD a couple of picks later.

For our third pick, I like both Hardeman and Roberts as attacking half-backs with good foot skills who can set up play behind the ball.

Loved reading that Scythe94!

Darcy Wilson starts coming into play with our first don't you reckon?

I agree roughly with your top order although I can see us taking O’Sullivan ahead of Sanders at this point.

Any true to Harmes nominating Sydney as well. If so we are really making a raid on your guys. Jordan, Grundy and now possibly Harmes.

Makes you premiership favourites imo. Absolutely ripped the heart out of us. Congratulations on your expected premiership

Yeh heard Syd are potentially interested in Harmes as well.

Grundy and Harmes would be good gets for you in my opinion.

Jordon is a fringe type that could step up now that he’s had a few years, but I’d be surprised if you wanted to bring both of Harmes and Jordon in as they are a little similar.

We might even snag a first round pick back from all that if we're lucky

I think Wilson will certainly be considered, though I imagine he's just below Sanders and O'Sullivan at this point.

Fair point re O'Sullivan v Sanders. I'm just thinking that if we end up with Pick 10, Murphy is a pretty good KPD substitution (doesn't have O'Sullivan's intercept/attacking game, but might be a better lockdown type). Suppose it would depend on whether the club preferred a Sanders/Murphy combo, or a O'Sullivan and maybe Windsor combo. I probably don't know enough about Windsor to have a strong opinion either way.

Is there any indication of who the Dogs would actually be targeting with the Gold Coast pick?
The rumour floating around was Watson, which is kind of odd as he's very similar to Weightman, though I guess having multiple good small forwards isn't a bad thing.

Just crazy they wouldn't be using their picks to fix their backline.

Yeah, you'd think O'Sullivan would make much more sense for them. Still, just a rumour, who really knows what they're planning.
