Daniel Ward for me. Far better attacking side of his game than Nev. Don't think he'll ever be as good as a defender as Nev, maybe he could, but it's a lot to ask.
Nev was a nothing player for a long time before turning into a gun.

McVee is very promising for his age. I wouldn't be putting a ceiling on him.

I understand that, but we are talking about one of the best one on one defenders I've ever seen who could beat anyone if left one out not matter their size. It's a tough sell regardless of how late he did it in his career.

Thoughts on Caleb Windsor. He's a late first round option. He has speed that is a desperate need for us. I think we'd be keen. 184cm.

Really nice hands and great foot skills too. Strong runner.

Very much an outside type although he does tackle.

I think he’ll land somewhere around the end of first/early second so not sure that we’ll be placed to take him unless he slides based on our current picks.

There really aren’t many midfield options in the top 20 or so this year.

Looks like Isaac smith, wouldn’t take him long to kick Langdon out of the side

Or Hunter. Our wings are pretty weak now compared to other top sides. Sorely lacking speed and penetrating ball movement.

Hunter is such a meh player for me. Provides no dash at all.

Lions have Kidean Coleman!
Pies have Jack Crisp!

Hard runners, quick line breakers like these guys are what we desperately need.

I blame the senior guys far more than McVee for the last goal. Pathetic. Nobody even turned around to see who was behind them. Lever in particular, hes paid to organise the defense and he did * all. Not to excuse the rest of the ball watching idiots but Jake has to be that guy in that situation.
Why organise the defence when you can take all the time in the world and blast it to a 50/50 in the corridor? If there was ever a time to be a boring campaigner and kick to the boundary line, that was it. Even a deliberate out of bounds probably chews enough time or holds them up long enough to hang on. 🤡

Yeah him Rivers and Salem all floated along the D50 paying no attention. Mcvee tried, just make a shit choice. I don't blame him at all

100%...so funny.

Seems we only kick to the boundary when going inside 50. 😅

What about TMac and Chandler? 10 touches between them for the night with 0 scores. Zero. Produced next to nothing in TWO finals both of them. Horrendous.

Fritsch 2.3, Kozzy 2.3, Gawn two fluffed shots to win it. Panic merchants all of them.

So much blame everywhere to be honest. If Clarry gets potted so should they.

Didn't even mention Clarry in this 😂

Potting Chandler for not showing up in finals one of the funnier things ive seen. Seen that from a lot from people here. The guy played some amazing footy when our game style was more open throughout the year and coincidentally went missing when we played boring predictable down the line defensive garbage. hmmmm its almost like the coaching staff is holding a lot of our players back from being able to play their best. Apart from our contented ball winners course. Cant have them going without their stats.

Our half forwards often get about 7 touches under Goodwin. Happened with Hannan, has happened with Melksham, happened with Bedford, happens with Spargo and Chandler. If only there were some kind of common denominator 🤔.

I wouldn’t put it all on Goodwin. Maybe most of them aren’t very good.

Just kick a goal or two ffs. Over two finals nada. Zip. You don’t get opportunities gifted on a silver platter as a small forward. You have to be able to create from half chances, anticipate before everyone else and be at the ball first, hit the scoreboard. Do something!

Bullshit. All of them have looked above average or better when we played a more open style. You think Bedford just became a player at GWS thru luck?

Melksham was a gun in 2017 and 2018 when Jennings was here, Hannan was handy in the same era, Chandler looked like an All Australian at time this year, particularly in games we tried to score rather than keep the opposition below 60 points.

My question about Chandler is whether he was told to stand off the contest on the F50 line every time we went in, or if he just wasn't able to get involved. If we were bombing the ball in, why the F was he not at the drop of the ball? And if it was a coaching move in the QF that didn't work, why on earth did we do it again in SF?

He's never been that type of player to me, he's more a smart player who is a good user and thrives in open space. He can run all day and is good overhead for his size, he's not the type who can operate in a phone booth and make people miss when surrounded by a crowd. He isn't twitchy.

Please read carefully. I said “most of them”, not all of them. I’ve always rated Melksham. Highly.

Hannan was a battler who ultimately wasn’t good enough at two clubs, Bedford still a relative unknown (shat the bed in prelim but still early days for him), Chandler has to cop that his finals series was horrendous. No sugarcoating it. Not writing him off completely but he’s got an uphill climb now. Poor finals performances stain your reputation it’s just the way it is.

Spargo can be creative but still can’t find the footy enough after 7 seasons and goes at 0.5 goals a game. Not in the postcode of being good enough for a forward half player.

Outside of the players themselves we should probably also look at a forward line coach who isn’t a crusty old ruckman!

Read my above comments on Chandler, if you're blaming him for that finals series you're not seeing the big picture. Same argument can be made for Spargo.Far better player when we aren't mindlessly bombing the ball into our F50.

A handful of them are to blame for our finals losses. Yes Goodwin, yes Clarry, yes TMac etc. I’m definitely putting Kade Chandler in the sin bin with them. He was pus!

Chandler is probably 20th picked each week. Goodwin is on the big bucks as a premiership coach and makes idiotic decisions like picking the corpse of Tom McDonald and Josh Fresh Legs Schache as sub. Oliver would be on nearly a million bucks pa and would struggle to hit a cow in the arse with a banjo. If only Chandler were our among our biggest problems.

The thing that shits me about Oliver in addition to his kicking, is his handballing as well. In his early years he was amazing at swooping on the pill and in one motion firing a direct handball to a runner.

Now he tries these floating Hollywood handballs to stationary targets already under pressure. They're recorded as effective handballs because they get to their target sometimes, but they're not damaging possessions.

The first game this year Oliver was injured, Sparrow got a decent chunk of midfield time. He only got 20 odd disposals but my eyes weren't rolling on repeat whenever he touched it.

Clarry missing 10 games straight with a hamstring did him and us no favours leading into the finals. No midfielder is going to hit their peak with that kind of extended mid season lay off. People seem to gloss over this fact and don’t cut him enough slack imo.
He was was rusty af
