The boys need to come together for a wholesome night of punting and schooners at the Sorrento Hotel.

Its all gone to shit since Vanders was delisted

Pretty concerning that we were happy to put a statement out saying Tonlinson was a required player but it's been 24 hours since this news broke and still nothing from the football club..
Club is honestly terrible at PR.

Geelong another who would love him but would need to include a player.

I think you'd want a pick in the top 4 or a pathway that gets us there as part of it.

They hardly have anyone of interest beside DeKoning, and even then he dropped off this year. Not saying I wouldnt take him but there would need to be picks involved also.

I'm of the belief anyone is tradeable but we can't be trading one of our best players without a compelling reason. There must be a clear strategy on how it will improve us. No draftee (even Reid) is an odds on bet to make our team better soon if Oliver is out.

All of that said, if the behavioural issues (or whatever the problems are) are that bad maybe we have to consider it, but we'd need to do some bloody good manoeuvring to lose a top 5 mid in the comp and come out ahead.

Even if it helps us secure a good forward, what's our midfield going to look like next year?

Hahaha this is so Melbourne, its like St Kilda and Melbourne aren't meant to have nice things without blowing it up

For years we cry that we never have elite midfielders, now we get one who is on pace to be having a HOF career and we are contemplating trading him out for unproven draft picks as he enters his prime?

I almost hope this happens just for the lol's. Spargo is a required player but Oliver isn't? wow....

Dont worry about the pathway, he would make the HOF if he retired tomorrow.

Dont think his prime has much to do with it, I wouldnt expect him to get any better than he is now, reckon its far more likely he gets worse if anything.

Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw, Rivers, Pickett, Sparrow and whoever we draft with a high pick is still a good mix.

Sounds like they really want Reid, im fine with that if thats what they want to do, but I think id rather 3 & 4 than 1 & 6 if we had the option of the two honestly.

Is there any guarantee Brayshaw will play again? Pickett and Rivers are both unproven as mids (though I'd be happy to see them tried more there for sure). Don't think Sparrow has progressed as hoped and is not a good AFL level midfielder as it stands imo. We're losing most of our midfield depth (granted they're not great) too which will need to be addressed.

Lke I said I'm not against trading anyone if it makes us better but if this goes down we must absolutely nail the rest of the draft / trade period for it to not be a significant hit to our chances in 2024.

I guess it depends on how you view the bolded part. For me, 2024 is shaping up to be a bit of a reset year at the moment. Plenty has already come out about the club looking to 'play the kids' more next year, we're losing a bunch of depth and now potentially one of our best players.

I'm thinking that 2024 might be a bit of a step back, but we could head into 2025 with a refreshed team that has a good mix of youth and experience, and likely a fair bit of cap space to play with to have a crack at one of the uncontracted KPFs.

I'd take that step back if it meant we mixed up our game style and gave players like Riv and Kozzy more exposure in the middle. The concern is obviously that we'd potentially waste the end of Gawn and May's careers, but as I've said before, if we don't make change, they'll be wasted anyway.

Or we take 5 picks in the first round and win the flag with the Debutant Dees 🥰

Our next dynasty! Until we turn them all into boring inside mids, try to drown one of them, encourage home tattooing while rehabbing and let them punch on in a public space

Goody might have just put an exotic bet on at a bookie - Clayton Oliver to be floated at trade table in 2023 - 1:101

Brayshaw is unfit and unprofessional, Vineys right foot mistake still cuts deep, Pickett has gone backwards. Rivers and Sparrow are decent though. If we lose Oliver, our midfield goes from strong to weak.

Love when people act like we won't add to that mix and roll into the 2024 season with it.

well he's not entering his prime. He's in it. And he's been in it for 3-4 years.

This is what's triggering a lot of sensitive Melbourne supporters.

They're simply not looking at the bigger picture, instead they seeing more at how many more awards he can add to his cabinet. Like who gives a s**t if he's a 4x best and fairest winner? Give me flags thanks.

He did give you a flag.
Remember 2021? 🏆

Do you think it might be a tad unrealistic to expect to win the premiership every year?

Great clubs hold on to their champions. Throw their arms around them when they (allegedly) go off the rails. I’m very uncomfortable about our coach’s apparent inability to address this situation much more than I am a 26yo Clayton’s alleged waywardness (if true).

Pendlebury and Sidebottom are 300+ game players at Collingwood who just waited 13 years and hundreds of games between drinks for their second flag.

Some of our supporters’ attitudes to tossing out a champion of the club when things get a bit hard is disheartening and disappointing. We lost a couple of finals by a combined total of 8 points ffs. Get over it.
