Media reports are that Hawks are preparing now for a monster bid to lure Ben King to Glenferrie end of 2024.

Should we be doing the same? Got the Grundy cash, TMac and BBB finally off contract, Harmes likely leaving and a few other moving parts. We could conceivably table an extremely attractive offer, especially if we remain in the top 4 and perhaps even make the GF.

Tigers got Lynch mid dynasty. Cats poached Cameron. Prizing Ben King away from the Suns would be my pick of all the key forward possibilities out there. Prodigiously talented.

Worth a serious crack and if so groundwork should start being done now.

We should've been having a crack at him before Hawks did, we should've been offering 800k a yr to every good young KPF worth it in the comp as soon as it was clear Grundy was leaving, your examples are spot on and if were sitting around waiting for Jefferson to come good, then Gawn will be 34 by then.

Ben King will command $1.2 as a starting point, especially if he has a big 2024.

The problem in recent seasons is no-one of note has been available or potentially gettable.

Next year there are a few. But you need to make the decision 12 months out and prepare accordingly.

ok 1.2 it is then, i mean if we have the money in our cap then go for it, generational 60 goal a yr KPF dont grow on trees, we need a partner for JVR & even if Petty does end up being rly good up forward you dont want 1 injury derailing ur whole yr come finals. If it's a yrs time then i think you lay the ground work and start wooing and get the player thinking about you and then you reasses in a yr.

King in 12 months doesn't address next yr tho, theres a chance Rooey, Petty & Jeffersona are all ready by 2025, we rly need a stop gap not to mention we have no 2nd ruck and Max is getting old. Would've been nice to get Flynn, not sure who it is now, even if its Lobb, i know hes pretty crap but cant have Schache and Rooey as our 2nd ruck for a whole yr.

If King is generational the comp is in serious trouble.

We really need to address the use of the word 'generational'.

Using the above example, five players kicked 60 goals this year and four did last year. The most goals King has kicked in a year is 47. 13 players this year alone kicked 47+.

Perhaps I'm being pedantic, but that term gets mistakenly used so often. A 'generational' player is one that has talent/output that is only seen once in a generation – plenty of current AFL players can do what King does.

Unless we want to start considering players like Brody Mihocek and Kyle Langford to be generational. In which case, go for it

lol fair. Replace generational with very good with the potential to be incredibly good.

Agree. It even gets said about draftees who haven’t even kicked a ball in anger at senior AFL level.

All we’ve heard for months about Harley Reid is that he’s a ‘generational talent’. Really? I remember Lachie Whitfield was going to be as well (anyone recall the ‘Whitfield Shield’ game between GWS and Carlton I think it was?). Cam Rayner the next Dustin Martin. There are other examples. All pretty much hyperbole.

The only thing the word ‘generational’ is guaranteed to generate is clicks on online news articles.

I used the word ‘prodigious’ in relation to Ben King’s level of talent, which I think is fair and accurate.

So an interesting made up mega trade on trade radio by i think its Adam Cooney. Huge 5 way deal:

in this the Dees give - 5 + 25 + future 2nd + Oliver

Dees receive - pick 1, Riley Thilthorpe, Shane Mcadam.
Trade radio at its best

Would Xav Duursma be an upgrade on the current form of Langdon or Hunter? Tempt him to play with his brother ;)

I don't know if he is necessarily an upgrade on those players but he would be worth a look for us imo

Having said that though, his shit goal celebration reminds me of this w***ers and I dont know if I could accept it as a Dees supporter

Having said that up until around this time last year, Lachy Hunter was my most despised player in the league. A preppy punch in the face head bloke from Williamstown who loved to duck at any chance but I grew to not hate him with a Melbourne jumper on.

Hunter and Langdon better players historically, but I was really disappointed with them both as the year went on. Howes and Duursma would put some pressure on.

We don’t celebrate goals with the ‘bow and arrow’.

We celebrate points with the ‘scattergun’.

Tell you what, Hawthorn's head of footy insinuating that Tyler Brockman will move the needle for Pick 1 is as bad as Crows fans thinking McAdam would influence the Oliver deal lol

The shotgun was great. Fans/media cried about coz he was "shooting" kids in the stands. :$

Would Xav Duursma be an
He got 7 disposals against the Lions a few weeks back, sadly for him I think we have enough pathetic chokers who choke in finals already.
