How does that work?
Jon Ralph said it, didn't expand it but I'm guessing he either moves again and it's the exact same contract moved across with Collingwood paying there amount and Port takes on our amount. Or Grundy would have to rip it up and do a whole new deal

That makes sense and how I thought it would go, we negotiate on the remainder. So we could still pay some of the deal, if we were to I dare say we can demand a second round pick. If we want a team to pay every dollar we are on the hook for we likely trade him for peanuts.

I know its only Big Footy, but my god, if the Eagles are talking anything like their supporters on a trade price for Reid (two picks in the top 7, a future first and second not enough lol) im fine with sitting at #5 and praying Duursma falls into our lap. The more I watch of him the more im convinced hes going to be a very special player. Wouldnt be surprised if hes gone before #5 though. So rare to have a guy who is quality mid first but can go to full forward, take contested marks and kick bags.

McKercher, Reid and Duursma. Simply have to find a way to nab one of these 3. Yeah there is some talent outside of these guys, but for me, these three compliment our list perfectly and standout as the three best players from what I've seen. If Norf get a PP then we're zero chance unless we sell the farm for Reid. McKercher looks a Jet.

"AFL rules do allow three clubs to pay a portion of a player’s contract.

But the Herald Sun understands under the contract lodged with the AFL the Pies have a separate arrangement with Grundy to the Demons’ $650,000-a-season deal.

If Melbourne did trade him, Collingwood would continue to pay that $250,000 portion of his contract for the next four years.
If a third club was prepared to pay the $650,000-plus remaining on his contract the Demons would have no more financial obligations."

"The AFL ensured after the bungled Adam Treloar trade, which required mediation to sort out how much of the $900,000-per-season contract Collingwood paid, that it streamlined the process that saw a club paying a portion of a deal when he moved on."

Love that Collingwood ****ing up with Treloar has essentially helped us move Grundy on down the track.

Everything coming up Melbourne.

The only thing with trading Grundy is we do need a mature depth ruck in my view. Don’t know what the solution is there but we need to think about it.

Absolutely last thing we need is mature ruck depth.

The ruck position isn't the most crucial to success, but LeverPuller raises a fair point given without Grundy we would have likely seen Schache rucking full time for 4-5 games this year. Not ideal.

If we didn't get Grundy we would have picked up some state league ruck who would have done a job. Grundy didn't take any game by charge and be the difference.

Next year we can find some bloke to fill that role as well. Hawks just grabbed a 26 year old from the state leagues who helped them beat Collingwood

The decision to trade out Grundy is far from clear cut. A replacement back up ruckman of reasonable quality will cost $350k/season minimum. That’s if you can even find one available. Keeping Grundy at $650k/season is arguably a far better option than that.

Gawn may be blitzing now but he’ll be 33yo next year and one awkward marking contest away from a knee hyperextension, leaving us with a huge hole in the 22.

If Grundy is traded it must be for his entire $650k contract and the buying club should also cough us up a decent second round draft pick. Short of that he stays for mine.

If other clubs like Port come knocking for Grundy it means he has value and should be treated as as such as a commodity. He’s under contract. It’s a business decision.

Pretty sure TK originally meant the last thing we need to worry about, just said it wrong, as in, its not worth losing sleep over or needing to plot out a 6 month plan to try and secure someone, to which I agree.

We all know the answer...we'll take the Spruce Pruess to premiership glory, hop in...

Not sure why my last reply to this got deleted, pretty soft TBH.

You said we don't need to worry about ruck depth then state we could find ruck depth... Think you may have missed the point.
