In before for the TK 'no good players ever move between Vic clubs' comment, which is to be fair generally spot on.

But I have pondered the McKay situation. Blues are playing awesome footy without him and have said they want to attack the draft for the next year or two. It's still massively unlikely but if a club was ever going to try to make a play for him, it's ever so slightly more possible now than anytime before.

I'd give up 4 for him plus change.

In the highly unlikely event Carlton wanted to trade him out we'd need to give up more than 4 and change. They'd want 4 and us to get 5

I think Carlton can easily do without McKay but clubs don't do that shit. He'll be back in the side this week

While I appreciate our tall forward issues I think we could get away with just having a couple of servicable players down there rather than the most cooked group of d-listers in the comp. Investing heavily in a bloke like Mckay is just going to rob ourselves of the opportunity to remove the trash we've got hanging in the fringes of our best 22 who genuinely make us a worse team and leave us exposed to falling apart as soon as our veterans hit a wall.

It also leaves us with three tall forwards on the list who would feel rightly entitled to playing senior footy. So we'd be getting rid of JVR or Jefferson in a couple of years cheaper than we'd like.

Two early firsts for a scatter gun Travis Cloke type frightens the shit out of me, hard pass.

Yep would be a horrible call. Id be throwing a top 4 pick at a key back before a key forward

Giving up the kind of draft hand we would have dreamed about as a bottom 4 side, in one of the strongest first rounds in years, to solve an issue we were basically able to fix with an average defender a couple of weeks ago is just crazy. Maybe if we could get him before the finals it'd be a worthwhile discussion.

Thankfully most of the murmurs seem to be more in favour of us making a massive offer for Reid rather than Mckay or King.

Honestly I'd rather just recruit his brother for nothing and give him a crack as a forward if we're that desperate.

Or, recruit his brother and play him back and Petty forward. Would also give us a bit more cover for when May finishes up.

I don't even want Ben McKay honestly. Think he's far too flaky and injury prone to be reliable. I wouldn't be offering him more than 500k. But certainly would rather go down that path than spend all our assets on Harry.

Yep agree on that. I don't see us going for any big name players in trade/free agency this year anyway, but would be keen to try and find a key back or swingman especially given Tomlinson will likely be gone. I'm liking the Petty and JVR combo forward.

Yeah would be insane to throw away one a dream draft hand as a top 4 side for something we dont even need
When guys like Jordan can still get a gig theres clearly alot more to fix

The doomsday scenario is that Petty's injury has ruined him, but I wouldn't be jumping the gun. Tom Stewart came back from a lisfranc with little issue. We definitely need another key back regardless as Petty isn't going to be good enough to cover May even if he did get back to his best as a defender.

It's why I like the look of Curtin who has that genuine swingman profile you're talking about.

Yeah Curtin looks unreal, but I think West Coast have him firmly locked into their plans. Lots of people saying WC won't trade pick 1 unless they get pick 2 as part of the deal.

Fortunately that just looks like a little opinion piece from Hutchy - not something he has heard from a source at a club.

No way I’d blow this draft hand and take on McKays salary whilst he’s been in this form.

Next year our options include; Petty, Chandler, JVR, Pickett, Petracca and we bring back Fritsch.

Jefferson will improve and might get a game late in the year, and we are every chance of drafting Duursma as a third tall and Watson as a small.

I don’t think our forward line is totally stuffed - it’s been more about the way we bring the ball in.

Not saying we couldn’t do with a gun key forward, but I wouldn’t sell the farm for an expensive and out of form McKay.

I'd be chasing Oscar Allen instead even though there's zero chance of that ever happening.

100% agree with Hutchy.

In 2022, we had guys like Ben Brown, Tom McDonald and Weideman running around all season long not firing a shot. All year long Goodwin tried to find a solution but we never could and we went out in straight sets. The forward line was a disaster. Everyone knew it. The coaches, the supporters and the media. What did we do in the off-season to fix the issue? Absolutely nothing.

Now fast-forward 12 months, and what is everyone talking about? Surprise, surprise, our darn forward line. We deserve to be in this predicament, this is on us. Now people want to go yet another year relying on Petty's body? Relying on Joel Smith's craft and body? Relying on Jefferson to be the A-grader in 2026 and onwards?

What happens if May goes down with an injury or he really slows down, and Tomlinson is getting bags kicked on him each week? People will be begging Petty to go back (again) opening up the hole in the forward line even more.

I'm not saying that it has to be mcKay either. But we need to try and poach a key forward. A decent one.

I'd boff if we got H. Mckay- sounds weird to say but if they consider Petty a long-term forward and Trac continues to spend more time forward with Jefferson developing I'd say the forward line is the least of our worries. We still need 2 KPD's. One to replace May and the other to replace Petty/Tomo, and we need at least 2 high quality young mids.

Pick 4 would be fair exchange for Harry McKay. He’s a very good player but he’s not a superstar. He’s not Charlie Curnow.

Steven May cost us pick 5 alone. Arrived at the Dees as a 27yo and has been the best fullback in the competition for the better part of five seasons.

McKay would arrive as a 26yo as one of the top 5 or 6 key forwards in the comp. Those goalkicking yips also have to be taken into account.

Seems a reasonable comparison to me. This “two early first rounders” rhetoric has gotten way out of hand. Media driven nonsense.

Port have offered Mitch Georgiades a four year deal.
Where he is yet to sign; why not go after MG as a direct swap for the Adelaide born Grundy?

Cause I think you guys would be stupid to do that deal but absolutely if you wanna just leave the paperwork ill leave the resident negotiator Danster to crunch the details
