It's an interesting conundrum, but with our current picks, I don't imagine we'll have access to any of Duursma/McKercher/Watson/Curtin anyway.

Likely before our pick:

1 - Reid (WCE)
2 - Walter (GC match)
3 - Curtin (North)
4 - McKercher/Duursma (North). They absolutely shouldn't get the pick, but the AFL will find a way
5 - Duursma/McKercher (Hawthorn)
6 - Watson (whoever trades for the GC pick)

Throw in the possibility of Sanders getting nominated as an academy pick for North, and all of a sudden our prime pick 5 could end up coming in at 8.

Over this academy/compo nonsense.
Our current pick is 5 and whilst a bid will come for Walter (call ours pick 6), we will still get a crack at one or two of those players.

Sanders and O’Sullivan aren’t bad options either.

North will get the compo pick for McKay IMO, as ridiculous as it is. Sanders also quite likely to end up there.

Agree O'Sullivan is a good option, I'd just be dirty on not coming away with one of the gun mids.

Yeh forgot about that good point.

I can’t see them getting both - pretty sure they’ll reject the Sanders thing which is an ambit claim anyway I reckon.

Fingers crossed. Otherwise you're looking at the top 14-15 containing a compo pick, four academy picks and two father-sons.

Makes a mockery of the whole thing

Yeah I reckon they'll get one or the other - a ridiculous compo pick for McKay, or access to Sanders. Not both.

Hopefully Eagles win. Reckon if North get pick 1 and Reid then AFL won't give them first round compo for McKay or priority access since they have a stack of decent young players already and just need time.

They can either keep McKay or force a trade for him then if they want better compo.

I’ll be a bit disappointed too but will be ok with it if we get another pick as well.

If we have two picks after the top shelf mids are gone maybe we boldly take Watson & Caddy and go for a complete makeover of our forward line. It is after all the area of biggest weakness on our list.

Watson Caddy Chandler
Fritsch JVR Pickett

Jefferson developing as backup
Petty swingman

Now THAT’s an imposing forward set up. Adelaide have done similar in recent drafts with their recruitment and it’s freshened them right up. It’s certainly an option.

Definitely an option but I’m not overly sold on Caddy. He’s bigger than the other kids without being very tall, but that won’t translate to AFL.

I’d rather go with O’Sullivan down the other end which helps when May is finished and releases Petty forward for us.

Watson is a goal getter so he would definitely be a welcome addition to our forward 50.

Yeah that's my worry with Caddy. Just looks like he's more filled out than the other kids so he can bully them physically a bit.

Caddy is Jake Stringer height and has drawn some comparisons with C.Curnow with his athleticism and explosiveness. Although I too like O’Sullivan it would be a tough decision between the two of them.
Caddy knows how to find the footy as well and could form a pretty lethal forward/mid combo giving Petracca a chop out. He’s been a consistently touted top 5-10 selection for 18 months now, never dropping out of that group of premium kids.

I still see him as a pick around the 10-12 mark rather than 4-5.

Duursma on the other hand would be fantastic but I don’t think he’s going to make it through to us - especially if North get this rubbish compo pick 3 for McKay leaving.

I'd be taking O'Sullivan first before Caddy. Fits a bigger need and it's why we have an interest in him.

Does anyone see Sanders as a good fit for us if Norf isn't given access to him?

Not really our biggest need. He’s a smart midfielder who can break away from the clearance and has very good foot skills.

He’s a neat package and accumulates a lot of footy.

Whoever gets him will be very pleased, but I wouldn’t think we’d reach for him given our current midfield stocks.

Maybe I'm missing something but haven't seen much to suggest Caddy is anywhere near as explosive as Stringer or Curnow

First game a few weeks ago for Carlton 2’s playing against bigger bodies. First thing you look for is thirst for contest and acceptance of body contact - a tick there. Certainly got some tricks and a nice lump of a kid. Going to fill out into a brute.

I think we're jumping the gun by assuming we'll get gold coasts pick. every man and his dog is going after their pick. I'd say we're a 20% chance.
