Looking over a couple of draft threads. Saw 3 of the prospective first round are tied to Gold Coast. No idea how they afford all of them with their current draft hand. Probably need to move up the draft order to do so which gives whoever they trade with a decent amount of leverage.

Maybe we could move up the board Via trading our current 1st Rnd pick & our 2 Rnd'r (from Freo), for the Giants 2nd 1st Rnd pick; for us to move our 2nd pick up the board.?

Heard a strong rumour that we are looking to sure up our key stocks over the next 5-10 years and hitting the trade/free agency hard this year by looking at bringing in both Mckay twins.

With May, Gawn, Tmac, Ben Brown, eventually going to be finishing up over the next few years this will be looking at our salary cap space being available to land these two big fish and bringing them to the one club.

Ben Mckay as a RFA, north will elect not to match, costing us no draft capital. Harry will most likely cost us our two first rounders with a 2nd and 3rd coming back in return.

Forward line will consist of Mckay, Petty, Van Rooyen.

Stay tuned.

Wow, crazy if true. Makes a lot of sense though.. This would be a smart idea with Chocco Williams potentially fixing up Harry's kicking..

Zero chance H leaves carlton especially for us.

If there’s ever a certainty on footy forum boards, it’s when someone floats a trade rumour and someone chimes back with there being “zero chance” of it happening.

Unless you are Simon Goodwin, Jason Taylor or the players in question themselves, there’s no way you can ever be that certain.

Lol at the thought we have the cap space to bring in two blokes on a combined ~ $1.8m a season.

Like the time i was at a Presidents function and heard a rumour Bailey Humphrey was in talks with the Dees. Literally a few days later he signs a long term contract with the Suns.

We might have the draft capital to pull off a coup like this, but how the hell do we pay them what they will be after? Gus, Oliver, Trac, Koz, Grundy, Max, May, Lever all would be on decent coin and some over a long period. I just can't see how it's possible to bring in two guys who would both demand in excess of 750k minimum. I mean, I'd be happy with it, as i do think it's something we need, but this would be the heist of the century and I just can't see us or any team pulling that off.

I actually don't agree with this. He's one that Carlton would let go for the right price I reckon. Huge salary, long contract, serious case of the yips, and they're realising that the list doesn't bat as deep as they'd thought despite the huge money paid to imports like Williams, Saad, Martin, McGovern, Cerra and even Acres is on decent coin to get him over from Freo.

"The right price" would be huge though, and I can't see how we'd have the cap space.

If anyone is getting pick 1 it will be GWS I think

They have the three first rounders and they will more than likely be better value than our 3
They will go hard, but this is such a GWS thing to do. They only keep VIC kids by paying them an absolute fortune, unlike the Swans who get guys in for less. Most of them leave anyway, as do the many that are squeezed out to keep the big guns contracted. Haynes, Whitfield, Kelly, Coniglio (WA, granted) are all having good seasons again at last, but post-2019 these contracts were shockers. You can't overestimate how training out west lowers the appeal of Sydney. The days of Scully and the lads at Breakfast Point seem a long time ago.

When will they realise that pick one isn't the panacea it once was? Cadman has a crack and will be good one day, sure, but who is paying real money to come watch him get three touches in a 10 goal win. There's a reason there was no standout last year, but the Giants still spent big capital to lock away pick one. North wouldn't have taken him anyway, meaning they've done it for the marketing.

Lol nup once Carlton decide they want him gone his price halves. He ain't leaving for us

It would be half of what they'd have demanded last year, but that's still a big price.

If they need to clear space they’re not going to turf McKay, they’re going to look at the other guys you mentioned.

H. McKay is contracted on massive money ‘til 2030. Only way he leaves Carlton is a Grundy type scenario where the Blues pick up a chunk of the tab at his new club. Cannot see that happening just because he’s had one ordinary half season with kicking yips. They will persist with him, as they should.

Their already livid fans would riot if they sold him for peanuts now, only to watch him kick 60+ elsewhere.

It wouldn't be peanuts, we're talking two first rounders going their way for him. It'll free a lot of cap space for Carlton and inject the first round picks to inject quality youth they need.

Watch this space.

And why would North be compliant with the whole plan and not match a hypothetical offer for Ben McKay?

Did Carlton just recruit Collingwoods past list manager.?

No because you just made it up

Spending 4 first round picks in a row on key forwards would decimate our list

Bit hypocritical given you previously said you would cough up three firsts for Harley Reid.
