I'm sure the go home factor will be very strong to get players from Dingley to Cranbourne.
West Gippsland people have a strong affiliation with the Hawks. It would be good to change that thinking our way, for a new supporter base down Gippsland way.

I would honestly consider doing a pick swap with North to get in front of the hawks if they're actually keen on duursma

Agree, but the asking price could still be steep if Norf were scared about Hawforn nabbing someone they want.

I could handle getting McKercher at #4 or #5

Will all depend on the Mckay compo imo. If North get pick 3 for him they will be more likely to do that sort of trade. They'd basically be getting a free late first/early second in such a scenario and they have so many holes to fill in their list that if it meant they were getting their 3rd preference instead of their 2nd it would still be a win for them.

It has been said everyone wants GC pick but it really should be our priority.

Two of Duursma, Curtin, Mckercher, Watson or Sanders would give us a big boost of quality.

I think we will end up swapping with the Eagles... after they have swapped with North. = Eagles pick 2, for our 1st pick, + some.
I believe North will end up with hReid.

Then after all that, North would end up with 4th pick and could take Sanders or Mckercher/Watson.

Light on for detail but little snippet here 👇🏼 says we are in talks with multiple clubs to move up the draft board from our current position of pick 4. Sounds like, short of landing Harley Reid, we’re determined to nab one of McKercher or Duursma and understand we need to get ahead of Hawthorn (3) to ensure that.

Aren't they getting Sanders for free via the NGA anyway?

I think North would be silly to trade up for Reid. Eagles would demand more from them than they could from us. I'm not sure how our pick ends up in Norths hands after all that either.

I’d be far more comfortable taking Watson if we also had another pick at the top end.

I’m just not sure about a 170cm forward pocket with such an early pick - as good as he looks to be.
Small forwards are covered mostly, for us now... we have smalls who will defend.

I don't think defensive attributes are covered much for small forward draft analysis.

Sam Edmund made a point about it a few weeks back. I think Sanders fits the eligibility for it.
They're attempting to have an exemption (in essence, a watered down priority pick) to take Sanders as he does qualify for NGA. All the other clubs blowing up

You're right. Thought they'd found a loophole they were actually exploiting. Turns out they have even less claim to him than I thought.

He's not actually currently part of their NGA. But they are asking for him to be included due to his indigenous heritage. Then they want to get the same deal the Suns got a few years back where they can get their Academy picks without having to match bids. Very sneaky.

The academy systems are such a stupid cluster****.

I think he is actually part of their academy, but they had no hope of him slipping that far. Now that he has a certificate of indigenous heritage, they want to use that as grounds to pre-list him.

I'm not sure how that works, but from what has been reported, the other clubs are on board with that as long as there's no further dilution of the draft.

If they get Sanders, McKercher and whoever they get for pick 15 out of this draft, they should be very happy.

From the Age:
North applied to the AFL to include Sanders in their NGA program and that request is pending, even though he is certain to be taken inside the first 40 picks, which would mean they could not match an opposition bid on him.

However, they have spoken informally with the league about the possibility of the teenager being part of a special assistance package designed to resurrect their fortunes under coach Alastair Clarkson. No decision will be made until, first, the Kangaroos officially apply for help, then, second, the AFL Commission meeting in grand final week.
