So which potatoe can we package up to NORF for Pick 1.

If Norf get pick 1, plus priority pick and band 1 compensation then I propose a straight swap for Harmes, Jordon and McDonald.

They get three premiership players to help with their rebuild.

We could also throw in BBB for their second rounder. The return of the prodigal son for a farewell tour in 2024 to please their supporters!

Jordon out of contract so cant be traded, will have to be Grundy instead

The Wizard could have kicked a bag in this one if he had his kicking boots on, but it was still a solid outing. It's been so long since he played talent league that I'd forgotten they've been mostly playing him up the ground off a wing for Eastern. On the few occasions that he did rotate into the forward line he looked so much more dangerous.

Watson is Kozzy's height, and 2 inches shorter than Shai Bolton. 4/5 seems early, but having someone who can kick goals and hit targets around the F50, and could play next year, would be the big upside here. At the end of the day, if we were offered a Pickett clone for the Freo pick, I'm sure we'd all take it in a heartbeat.

So what's the ideal outcome from here? Been a few years since there's been so many possibilities in front of us. Please correct anything if I'm wrong.

  • Let's say Gold Coast beat North and Hawthorn down Freo, we end up with pick 4 and 23.
  • And if we don't progress to the grand final we'll probably end up with 15.
  • Pick 15 and 23 is the equivalent of pick 5 plus pick 69 - assuming we'd potentially be eying off Gold Coast's pick 5. They would be looking for the best deal for that given they need all the points they can get. We don't have a 3rd or 4th rounder, and I'm not sure those 2 picks along would get it across the line as it's only another 59 draft points. Probably need to throw in pick 34 in exchange for pick 43, which would give Gold Cost 213 extra points. Also giving a little wink along the way that we won't be bidding on any of their academy boys.
  • Would leave us with 4, 5 and 43 for a draft hand.
  • Obviously we wouldn't do this without an obvious selection in mind, and that's the bit I'm struggling with.
  • Assuming there's no priority picks before us (please be the case) then i'm thinking:
  • North - Reid
  • West Coast - Curtin
  • Hawthorn - one of McKercher / Duursma / Watson - I'm thinking they'll probably take Duursma.
  • Leaves us with the other two that Hawthorn don't select.
  • Whilst Watson looks amazing, I just couldn't see a team using such a high pick on a player the same height as me...pick 10, yes, but not pick 5.
  • O'Sullivan seems pretty good and would fill an obvious need, but is he also a reach for pick 5?
  • Perhaps we talk with the Bombers and turn 5 and 42 (or 15, 23 and 34 if the Gold Coast deal doesn't happen) into 9, 28 and 68. Gets us back into the 2nd round that way, and the player we might have looked at with pick 5 is still there at pick 9?
  • Or do we speak to West Coast, knowing that Curtin would probably be there at 4, and send them 4 and 23 for pick 2 to gazump Hawthorn from taking Duursma.
  • Alternatively with all the academy talent so high on the list for Gold Coast, wonder if we could also shake free Mac Andrew. Could be how we use pick 15 instead? Might be the 200cm defender we're looking for, but with 2 years already in the system.

I would still try and get Gold Coast's pick. Take a player of our own at 4 (McKercher ideally for me). Try and find someone interested in pick 5 in the 7-10 range and trade back if we are keen on O'Sullivan.

If it was open draft Ethan Read but best fit if unable to move up would be a slide for Caddy
Not super keen on Caddy, personally. Hopefully North get some compo we can trade up for if that's our plan.

Harley Reid is doing a meet & greet with MFC today - Not that it seems to matter now after the weekend's results.

Would Swans consider a straight swap for McLean or Amartey for Grundy??

Amartey just re-signed didnt he? I would say hes not going anywhere. And the Swans would be dumb to do that anyway.

We had a discussion on McLean a few pages back, he would be ideal for us. If his name is floated I hope we go after him hard, id happily give up a pick with Grundy if need be to get a trade done.

Same - wanted these two last year as well. I think unfortunately the ship has sailed, Kinnear Beatson said on the Gettable pod last week that they're looking for a multi-year extension for McLean. They are red-hot on Grundy

Would either Pick 23 or 36 and Grundy be a sweetener to grab McLean?

23 and Grundy probably gets a deal done if they are happy to trade McLean and pay our remainder of Grundy's salary.

I think it's a great deal if all reports are true of Sydney desperately wanting Grundy

Amartey and McDonald can hold down the Forward line

Best thing going for us re: Grundy is that multiple clubs appear to want him pretty badly. Ball still in his court though. Going to come down to the club he picks.

If we do end up with picks 4 and 5 then any combination of McKercher, Duursma, Watson and Sanders would be fine with me. I wouldn’t even mind O’Sullivan - my presence is probably McKercher and Duursma.

Like others, I’m not sure on Watson for pick 4 alone, but if we were bringing in another with pick 5 then I’d be more comfortable for some reason.

How do we get both picks or are you meaning either Pick 4 and 5?

Getting Gold Coasts pick is a pipe dream, they are only 400 points in deficit if there 3 academy kids go at 8,10 &12.

They are better off trading into 2024 draft and plenty of other clubs will have more enticing F1st’s than we will.

Not sure why it keeps getting mentioned like it’s a “sure thing”.

400 points to make up is piss-easy.

Not a chance Walter slips through to pick 8.
