I just don’t mind him as a tool to have at our disposal. Offers something different to depth plodders like Harmes, Jordon, Dunstan and co.

If he improves 20% as a player in a better side it’d be worth it imo. Hunter is the type of player you lament after a prelim or GF loss as having had limited impact. Petrucelle also a perfect sub type player to come on provide spark.
You're talking about Jordon on the wing last year. Hunter has been an undeniable improvement and helped release the shackles of our stilted ball movement, Langdon also no longer getting tagged out of games as a result of Hunter being in the side.

Wing role is a thankless position, I think hes had far more of an impact than you realise (brilliant disposal under pressure that sets us up for counter attacks and gets us out of a jam, defensively super smart with his positioning when dropping into D50 to help out)
Him and Langdon.

No I recognise his quality and footy IQ. Just worry about impact against Lions, Port, Pies in pointy end finals. I believe we lack speed through the middle of the park and it’ll end up costing us.

Speed isn't the only thing that wins premierships. You think the Cats, Tigers, Hawks have solely speedsters? No. They have footy players that have great IQ and game awareness.

No but they had more quicker players than our current best 22 has. That’s for sure.

He is a dud

If he is behind those 2 mentioned than he doesn't deserve to be in the League

Plus he was pushed out for mum's boy Luke Jackson. He sucks. He really is meek.

Petruccelle as a cheap option for a HFF may be would be worth a punt. Don't think he'd be a wing for us, Hunter and Lingers have been excellent and agree with others that footspeed itself is overrated. Good skills and smarts is more important to moving the ball quickly than fast runners.
But there is possibly a spot to take from, or rotate with, Spargo/Laurie/whoever up forward.

Petrucelle streaming forward on the MCC member’s wing to Benny Brown on the lead. Does it get any more exciting?

It's a real shame the vomit react is only available in PMs. ;)

Petruccelle may be an upgrade in terms of speed over Spargo and Laurie but doesn't really offer much more in terms of quality so don't really see the point in adding another half forward to the rotating door there tbh. Feels like a more genuine need than going for a 'cheap option', which is why I've been so keen on Reid or Duursma.

Lots of reports now saying Grundy and management speaking with multiple clubs. We're pretty well positioned if he has that much interest. Keen to see how we play it.

Na that must be wrong I’ve been reliably informed he’s just a VFL player and has no trade value

Rivers is great coming out of defence but we lack an option connecting wing to deep forward imo. We don’t have a Brisbane Lions quality forward six which means we need to get the ball down there quick to create space, uncertainty, chaos etc. Lachie Hunter is a polished footballer but I worry in a prelim and GF against best opposition if he’s the right type of wingman. You need a line breaker or two - guys who can break open the game. Petrucelle is dangerous around goal too. Maybe he’s capable of raising his game in a good side like ours. I don’t mind the idea. Wouldn’t cost much.
Don’t mind the suggestion as it’s low cost for a mature body, but I don’t rate Petrucelle at all. Hunt has been much better for them this year and Hunter is a league above both of them.

I'm honestly surprised at how many clubs seem desperate for him but it's funny how they all are scrambling for him whilst simultaneously believing he's worth a third rounder with us paying his salary.

At present Petrucelle is a 13 touch, a goal every other game player, playing in a crap side. To be fair he’s also been sub in a chunk of games.

It’s a gamble but sometimes a bloke can find another gear at 25yo at a second club. If he elevates himself to an 18 touch, goal a game wing/forward he suddenly becomes quite valuable. A good moneyball type imo.

He might thrive off the crash ‘n bash work of our midfield bull brigade.

Don't think his teammates rate him too much

Blazes away at goal and burns teammates in the process

We have Harmes already LOL

I’d be happy with anything inside 30 so yeh a first rounder would be a rather profitable outcome!

I do agree with Kornes that if we aren’t pressed from a salary cap perspective (like Collingwood were) then we are better off holding him for insurance and to give Gawn for rests next year, than folding a giving Grundy away for peanuts.

I’m sure the club will want to do the right thing by him given the plan hasn’t worked out, but we’ve still paid him a lot of money so need to look after ourselves too.

IMO, we need more dual sided players. This would help speed up transition and accuracy.

And by the way, how do we carry players who can only handball off one side of their body.! Comeon guys. its 2023... and its back to the 80's where players could kick either foot.
