I get what you're saying but he doesn't strike me as a rhythm guy. Can sit on a wing doing * all then get a few minutes at FF in the last and clunk grabs in the square. Also I dunno if he'll make it in the big time but I have every confidence he's going to be at least one of those too good for the VFL guys soon enough. He'll win the spot in the twos even if we keep the tall potatoes on the list.
Which is all good and I'm certainly not writing the kid off by any means far from it, spose it depends what we see him as as a player. Is he gonna be more goal square having to wrestle forwards type of guy and bring it to ground type, or the roaming CHF getting it to space and doing some ruck work etc type. Having him stuck behind so many guys make him second guess going for the footy and that type of thing can kill a kids career

I just don't see him being anything less than second banana in the VFL next season. He's probably a lead up forward mostly but he's got a knack for overhead marks in packs despite having no ability to knock people off their spots. He does initiate contact though despite being a rake. A younger Petty if he never played in defense maybe? Doesn't look like a crier tho.

The club absolutely has to pay out McDonald and/or Brown then because what's the point of having Brown on the list to play as a 4th tall in the VFL?

There's a huge confidence boost to kids when you get rid of the blokes in front of them and say you're the man. I hope they do that with him next year

Yeah, send Benny off with thanks and tell Tom he's VFL ruck/utility until proven otherwise. Honestly though, I'd take anyone's bet that Jefferson isn't behind any spuds and is our key or at least second VFL forward at the start of next season regardless of list changes. Given what he looked like coming in physically, being one year behind JVR seems ok. I wanted to see if he could take a hit and he invites it so I'm on board, particularly as I'm a sucker for a tall with good hands who has a good kicking action. I think the biggest thing I can think of is that he doesn't appear particularly quick so his ceiling might be at wherever his athleticism ends up when he fills out.

Bottom line, I really rate JVR and obviously love Slick. I don't think the guy in between them needs to be amazing and I like Jefferson's potential fit with his attributes.

I won’t lie, I’m not sold on Jefferson yet.

I knew he’d have 2 years in the VFL but I would have hoped for higher numbers from him. He can go missing.

Don’t know if it helped or hindered having TMac, Grundy, Schache playing at Casey during the year.

Jason Taylor has my full confidence though so I’ll watch Casey with interest next year.

We'll get Kalani White in two years. If he keeps performing like he is now, he'll be a pillar of our backline for years to come.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch!

Essendon fans probably thought the same about Dustin Fletcher's boys before they ****ed off to the USA.

Kalani might decide that life on the Gold Coast near family is more important to him and nominate the Suns.

Or the AFL might change the rules to dick us, just like right before the Mac Andrew draft LOL

It's a catch 22 sometimes. If it was 2009; Jefferson would have played round 1. No guarantees for anyone of course, but I think our current success provides more patience for thorough development.

Didn't help at all but I don't know that it hurt a heap. In years past he might have spend the first 6-8 weeks in the VFL seconds and worked up. He should have had more reps in the 50 but maybe having to work to get near the goals pushed him to work harder?

stEdy this how you defend an opinion instead of just being offended

I’m possibly holding too high expectations so early - but I’m just not seeing it yet.

..and Ben Brown.

New I was forgetting one.

I mean its pretty clear it would be a hindrance being behind so many guys.

None of us have any idea if he'll be any good, but you absolutely can't judge him on this year.

Sam Edmund said north will most likely get access to Sanders but no way they get a PP. However the McKay compo is looking dicey for us
The Sanders thing is ****ing astounding. Never seen a team just straight up say 'we want that player' as assistance and the AFL are actually going to give it to them.

Just making shit up.

Anyway we should see if we can make something out of this situation and see if North are keen to split pick 3.

It'd be less annoying if they weren't also going to get a top pick for McKay aswell. Giving them 3 picks and then having GC get 3 more top 15 players aswell is just a joke

I still find it remarkable that any club is willing to pay McKay a cent over 600k

I guess when it's a free agency thing maybe they can find the room to do a 4 year deal or something at high money and front end it now. Even if he leaves after the contract you're no worse off really.

It's most likely gonna be the Joe Daniher thing where they inflate the contract for the compo then re negotiate it in a year's time. Unbelievable the AFL didn't close that loophole.

Jason T lost my ‘full confidence’ on talls with the Weideman over Curnow selection. Sorry everyone but that’s just how I feel.

The chasm between those two talents is just unreal. It’s the Grand Canyon of chasms and our head recruiter couldn’t see it? I mean really … WTF?

I thought they did didn't they? I guess there's no way to stop it

Get over it.

Either you just say free agency contracts are locked in OR just scrap compo all together if teams are going to take the piss.

Maybe just make it that bottom 4 teams can't lose free agents or something I dunno. It sucks but there's no way a good player is going to north as a FA so really it'll only be top teams picking off bottom ones with no compensation
