I got a text from a mate who was at dakota that night. Tom Gillies rocked up there at like 1am and spent the night bagging out the MFC to everyone (amusing considering he had about 14 kicked on him). It was the one time I was tempted to go to Dakota.

I don't think they can do that after the JHF deal unless they trade in a pick.

Then we would need to ontrade that 3rd rounder for a new ruck who isn’t as good. Basically degrading our list quality when we hold the cards.

I would be asking for F1, we can throw them back our pick 35 so it’s essentially a pick upgrade, or rates Grundy as a pick in the 20s which is what we originally paid.

We paid what we paid, then we decided he wasn't good enough for us. You can't then expect to get more than you paid it's just dumb.

It’s not like we need the 650k when all our stars are signed up long term and we have no noted targets which we can spend the cash on instead. By the time we pay a replacement ruck to come in that will only be 350-400k anyway, even less if we pay some of his salary.

Meanwhile Port are basically begging him to join them during our finals campaign when the bloke is contracted and they are our direct competitor. We hold all the cards, not the biggest fan of Cornes but he was right when he said we should demand a first.

And the next 4 years. That's the problem. If it was a one year deal I'd keep it but if we keep him this year out of stubbornness then we probably lose the chance to move him on

Not if we settle but that’s another conversation. Point is we have enough cap space as it is and a heap more freeing up in the next 1-2 years.

Degrading our team because Port are begging and the bloke had a few matches in the VFL, despite contracted has decided to sook it up makes no sense. Despite us giving him a lifeline when Collingwood threw him to the curb.

We're not going to strong arm this when we have a big contract on our books of a high profile player who doesn't want to be here. If we can't get a deal sorted do you really think Grundy will happily play the understudy to Max? Would be a massive distraction we don't need.

As long as Port take on his full salary whatever pick we get will be fine.

We should be looking to upgrade our picks at all cost, and this is an opportunity to turn a F2 into a F1 so we should take it.

The way Port are carrying on here, they can’t risk the embarrassment for them to not get a deal done now after the prancing around they have now done.
