No-one’s shelling out pick 11 for Brodie Grundy, even for a financial saving. Your next pick (22) is even a stretch.
Do Sydney have any academy kids for next year? Wonder if you could add a future 2nd and 3rd from our perspective.

I'd take future picks for Grundy, future 2nd seems fair.

We've got a good hand this year and think we should hit the draft hard to sure up our list.

For those saying we should draft Nick Watson, there hasn't been an elite player in the competition who is a small forward so I'd be hesitant to pick him unless he is heads and shoulders above the best mid or KPP - to me it doesn't sound like he is.

Will be very interested in his athletic profile from draft camp testing.

We need goals immediately or no chance at flag. I think it’s as simple as that.

Wizard Watson … come on down.
Trading for established players is how to deal with the now.

Anything we do at the draft should be considered for 3-4 years away.

If we need a small forward to win a flag next year we’d be better offering our first for Charlie Cameron than hoping Watson is the answer.

With our draft hand a combination of both experience and youth would be ideal.

To my amateur eye Watson looks special enough to impact immediately in a forward pocket.

That's fair. In most cases I'd say 5 was probably overs, this trade would be about opportunity, risk vs reward.

It's all come from me thinking teams should be more aggressive in terms of trading, Melbourne have a great draft hand and a need a forward, if Oscar Allan was available I'm sure you'd offer 5, 15, F1st and maybe more.

Just a random thought.

It's a good hypothetical. I'd love Wright in our team but as someone else said, he probably has had only one amazing season.

Would allow us to settle Petty back and take over from May.

Brisbane wouldn't even answer the call so hows that a better option

Whatever we do this off-season, can we just invoke a trade ban with Collingwood? They have shafted us multiple times by spivving their lemons. Dawes, Lumumba and Grundy are absolute nightmare fuel.
Don't forget Ben Kennedy and change for Howe :drunk:

Yeah let's be real, no good player is ever gonna wanna leave Collingwood for Melbourne these days. It's a step down

Gawn and May will decline next year with age (they already have this year, still quality but neither are at AA level), our key forward stocks will be no better than this year - we will be competitive and should finish top 6 but I don't think we'll be a genuine chance to contend.

It feels this year is our best chance at another flag, but it's on the edge.

Need to hit the draft to sustain success (let's define this as making finals consistently) over the next 5-10 years.

Dawes was leading goalkicker for the Dees in 2014, so you could so that kinda worked😂

May has definitely lost 5-10% of his zip. Looking stiffer through the legs and torso. Still very good but I give him two seasons before we need a permanent replacement. We’ll have to either trade for one or draft a kid now and get him doing an apprenticeship at Casey immediately. Big decision to make there.

Gawn I think can go a bit longer. If spud Grundy (‘Spundy’) wasn’t in his way the first 13-14 games he definitely would’ve been AA again. He was by far the best ruckman in the comp over the last 6-8 rounds of the season once Spundy was dropped out of the team. Max looks after his body very well. Could well play until he’s 36/37 like Goldstein has.

I think May might have more than 2 years but it won't be as the last line goal saving defender. Gonna have to ease his importance by giving him a more intercepting role.

The defence could function well with a new lock down key back and May and Lever both playing looser roles.

We’ll need someone coming through with some real pace, agility and a leap. There’s two apparent standout young KPD’s in the draft - O’Sullivan (198cm) and Murphy (200cm). Both are rated between 6 - 15 in power rankings and phantoms. Both Vic boys with impressive highlight vids.

Would be great to add one of them to our list but going to be hard. Murphy will likely be gone by our second pick (15). I suspect Taylor is going to try and move that pick up as early as he can.

O’Sullivan looks a ripper.

Maxy was quoted recently as saying he didn't think he could get to 250 games.

If we play finals that's 2 full seasons for him, I think the end is closer for him then we would like.

Blokes huge, has had multiple knee recos and while he looks after his body he gets absolutely belted by opposition every week.
