I'd imagine Tomlinson staying is almost certainly due to Petty being earmarked as a forward. If Tomlinson were to leave and Petty turned into a full-time forward, our KPD stocks would then be a 32-year-old Steven May and Jed Adams, with Lever and Turner as intercept types.

There's no way we'd trade a contracted Petty with the current state of our KPFs.

This is all assuming Tomlinson actually stays. He may have been told he's required, but that doesn't mean he wants to stay and that an offer doesn't come up for him that we look at. This is a watch this space for mine.

Pardon the intrusion.

Could you see a deal being done for Spargo?
Played a lot of footy for us, but fell out of the team this year with Chandler coming on. I think the club rates him but if you really wanted him i'm sure he's gettable, especially if we are targeting other forwards like McAdam. Thought he was really good on Friday night.

Very intriguing player to want to target, when I woke up today, someone coming on here asking about Spargo wasn’t the top of my list of posts I expected to see today.

Why Spargo?
Premiership experience, still pretty young and plays a position of need for North. Would make sense for them on face value.

I would've been happy for him to look elsewhere, but it seems likely that we'll have quite a few experienced players heading for the exits this year, so I'd probably rather we hold onto him as depth.

That being said, he could probably be had fairly cheaply if the club were happy to move him on.

Yeah I really rate him, and he's exactly the kind of smart player North needs to better lock the footy down in our forward 50.

Obviously he's contracted for another 2 years, so the ball is well and truly still in your mob's court.

With Chandler and McAdam looking like inclusions in your fwd line next year, I just wonder whether he's one who might shake loose.

Like Scythe94 said, he's a clear list need for us, but also he'd fit Clarko's gameplan to a tee. A fast, smart, defensive workhorse.

Outside of McAdam the Dees aren't linked to any incoming trades or free agents yet, and apparently they want to stick to 3-4 picks max around the top 20 in the draft. So, with Grundy, Jordon, Harmes, Hibberd, Dunstan all very likely gone, along with Melksham, Tomlinson and Brown all distinct possibilities, I'd be VERY surprised if other contracted players were being considered for trade in any way. This is part of the reason why I think the club has now told Tomlinson he's required (with a bit to play out there though).

Yeah I imagine your club wouldn't consider it unless it was clear that he was surplus to requirements AND the pick coming back helped service a position of need.

Hasn't he nominated Port?

Wouldn't mind him but don't know that we'll be able to gazump the paer.
I think its been mentioned, but it still has to be made official? and they have to be able to pay the transfers.?

We need someone (Pedersen like) his (Ratugolea's) game style, to take over from TMc, and he can ruck, and play tall forward, or tall back.

That fill-in player, whilst our draftees, jAdams, tomas Jefferson, Verall, all do some growing.

Oliver is, and always will be ,better than Petracca. I've had this opinion for a long time. You absolutely can, and should, go by BnF's. But surely the eye test is enough. Petracca is the worst shot for goal in the AFL for 3 years in a row. Oliver is a better clearance player and more consistent. It's a good problem but the BnF's speak for themselves.
Oh, cut it out Dan.

Oliver is the biggest waste of possessions in our midfield. He gets his hands to most,,, but then flips it off to nowhere particularly, putting us straight back as 'the hunted', inside the centre-square.

When he gains the footy at centre-bounces, and carries the ball, we benefit.

When he does not run with the ball, we hurt.

He is "THE Hot-Potato" man.

However, had we had beaten Collingwood we’d still be getting GWS this weekend who are a pretty polished outfit all over and they bat deep in the middle.
The Giants best, are all great kicks of the footy. All they're outside players are.

We should be making a big play for lAsh... contracted till 2025. Start chatting now, whist the Giants salary cap is high.

Many of the best midfielders aren't though. Zac Merrett kicked 8 goals this year. Caleb Serong kicked 4. Both made the AA team. Oliver kicked 6 and missed 10 games.
If you want to make good stats for this argument... Then you should search out the best-mids kicks into F50, hitting a teammate on the chest, and resulting in a score from that teammate.

Even though he is an absolute spud of the highest order, if there was ever an injury to May or Lever it would mean that we don't have to move Petty back into defence.
Its not so much about Tomo being a spud, he's not, but its more about Lever being weak as a man-on-man defender.

Lever is no better than a 3rd tall defender.

I don't hate the idea, but he's a bit old for us to be spending that kind of draft capital on him.

If he was turning 26 instead of 29 next year, it would fit with our time frame.

He'd be much better off playing for a team in the premiership window in the next couple years.

Your a year early, for this option.

Can’t see there being much smoke around Petty to crows. They be asking questions given we’re the nominated club for McAdam. I expect they’ll be met with a firm no.
Petty had a quite a serious injury but hopefully back start of next season. I’d say Petty will be a forward next year unless we pull off some recruiting coupe like Lynch. Assuming Petty is forward then Tomlinson allows us an experienced tall. Until the likes of Turner and Adams develop. I expect Turner a shot at overtaking Petty next season.

Salem is a manager of opposition business.
He would instruct and organise your young backs, and help maintain they're composure, when the heat comes your way.

Captain of your backs. He's a topflight footballer. He would have at least 3Ys in him, in his role.

We cannot afford Lynch, and he's near the end of his game.

We need the next rung of kids coming thru.

Allowing say 2.5Yrs left in the tanks, of Gawn & May, and Viney 30 next season, we have to build from the U19's.

Yeah but your fellow posters want a first rounder for him.

Ain't much use spending a first rounder on a player who services that need in the interim period before we're contending again.

Might as well go an option that doesn't require that much draft capital (eg. Zac Fisher), and keep the first rounders for elite youngsters who will be around when we're having a tilt.

Who do we need mostly. This man>>>
Charlie Dixon

This is the guy we need to be by the side of JvR for 2024...

Offer him 2Yrs or even 3, at decent money. He'll play most games next year with JvR, and even games at Casey, he would be advantageous to Jefferson, teaching him all the smart forward options. And looking after the young fella.
