Is dreadful harsh? Maybe – he did get a bit better in the second half of the year. Would absolutely melt if we traded anything of worth for him though – there'd be a dozen rucks at state level that would give you his level of output and not cost any capital.

Bailey Williams (WCE) is ******* s*t. Will ****** melt if we give up a late first - even if it’s pick 30 after all of the bullshit handouts - for that s**t truck.
Honestly haven't really watched him, his stats look ok for a ruck in a horrific side. Seems to find the pill. I'm assuming the first rounder bullshit is just a WC nuffy going hard

Clunks the ball really well found off these clips.

Highlights reel's can be misleading, I agree with Johnny. The guy is an unbelievably dumb and a terrible footballer. If we are into Williams and not Chol I must ask the question, are we racist?

A late first is mad. A 3rd rounder would be more like it. Or maybe JJ compo? Again, doubt WCE let him go. Looked ok at the back end of season and is still young. Not sure where the grab any ruck from the VFL thing comes from. Watched a bit of VFL and there weren't too many decent rucks not on lists floating around. I can't see them being better than Williams anyway.

Verall looks alright to me. Yeah, he's not ready, but he's a big boy. Really hoping he takes a step next season.

We didn't offer Grundy $1.2m a year. He took paycut to come here after we heavily courted him during the middle of last season.

How could this not harm how the club is perceived by established players and their agents?

So what's the clubs pitch gonna be now?

"Oh hey! I see you are in the best 22 at your current club. Want to nominate a trade to us? We will play you for 5 weeks, crack the sads and then demote you to the VFL and harm your future prospects!"

If Melbourne is throwing $1.2M at a new recruit, presumably other clubs are tabling similar offers. All things being equal, why choose Melbourne?

Doubt other clubs would table the same money to the same players firstly

1. Most clubs have different needs at different times
2. Clubs are geographically spread so living in Melb might appeal more
3. We have **** all tall forwards for them to contend with - diff scenario to sitting behind a 6x AA with Max. Any tall forward would be competing with our geriatrics
4. Could be mates with MfC players (Eg Henry)
5. We are in our window (where others with cap space may not be)

Plus once again, other players couldn’t give a shit if Grundy was played in the 2s, half of every bloody list plays in the 2s each week.

Frampton has been in the 2s, guess no one should move to Collingwood then, Lyons has been in the 2s, guess no one should move to Brisbane either.

I would argue clubs like GWS or Port who play there captains in the 2s is worst optics.

People need to build a bridge and stop getting sucked into the media garbage about this. Grundy signed a contract thinking he could play the Jackson role and was shit at it so got dropped and he is being moved on, MFC owe him nothing.

“We’ve been a top four side three years in a row, won a flag and if not for better goalkicking accuracy against the Pies in the QF would likely be in the GF this Saturday. We’re going all chips in to win another flag in the next 2 seasons. We want you to part of it.”

No-ones going to give two sh1ts about the Grundy trade. It was a one off gamble. Didn’t work. Whatever, it happens. Both parties will move on quickly. Ten years from now it’ll be a trivia question hardly anyone remembers the answer to.

Just saw this ☝🏼 Cats open to trading pick 7. Could be of interest to us if we see merit in taking two picks in the top ten this year. Cats might like our pick 13 & 2024 first rounder in exchange for pick 7.

We could then take 5 & 7 to the draft or use those picks for a McKercher or Duursma play or even a Harley Reid Hail Mary.

Adding two top kids at 5 & 7, McAdam, a mature age key forward and a back up ruckman would be my preferred strategy. Nice balance of youth and experience into our best 22.

Media reported he took pay cut to move.

"Sources with a knowledge of the talks between the Grundy camp, Collingwood and Melbourne said Grundy would accept a small reduction, probably annually, over the remaining five years of the contract he signed with the Magpies, who will also pay a portion of the contract."
Media have been reporting all year that his contract split with us and Collingwood is about 250-300k to 650-700k.

That would mean he's on 900k minimum from a 950k starting point. I suspect the other clubs who were interested in him were asking him to take a similar cut or more. I remember Cats lost interest in him towards the end.

Reading through this thread and the one thing everyone seems to agree on is if we do little in this period it’s a massive fail. What would we all see as a (realistic) good period?
McAdam and then two top quality midfield types that can help change the way we play either in the guts or at HB. Salem and Jordan never play again

Id love a marking defender like Quaynor, Iden etc but that's too much

I haven't watched any of Bailey Williams but my only question would be is he a better option than Brown/Tmac and Schache? If the answer is yes and we essentially exchange Grundy for him I won't be too upset even though I would prefer Chol.

So you’d be ok with us leaving our picks as they are?
I'd be surprised if we went the entire trade/draft period without at least a pick swap. Might not get back into the top 5 but we always try to move picks to target specific players.

Spoke to a mate who works as a scout for an interstate club last night after they had informal meetings with counterparts from other clubs over the last few days… no word on any incoming players other than Mcadam, but thinks we will be heavily involved in pick swaps - deal with port for their f1 will likely happen early in the trade period

I’m pretty sure I remember around 2019/20 that schmuttt said this was a stupid contract and that it would ruin the Pies salary cap. Then we go and sign the campaigner. Herp derp.

Port need picks to get their other deals done so this would be great for us.

Yeah we basically just bailed the Pies out and wasted a year. Won't hurt us in the long run but annoying we gave Collingwood a free ride.

Assume seeing as the risk is on us it's 13 for their future 1st and something else
Would have thought it would be a package of our second rounders to get their trades over the line.
