Oliver is Oliver but Reid could be anything! He could even be an Oliver, you know how much we've wanted one of those.

North will offer better than that, so Melbourne's offer isn't worth considering if that's the extent of it.

In all honesty though, if you got an offer of picks 2 & 3 (North) or picks 4 & 5 (Dees) you’d have to take it. Pointless having a discontent Harley Reid walking out mid-rebuild.

This was as a month and a half ago, rumour comes from his own father, who is expecting him to go later in the top 10.

Having said that, plenty of times WCE have picked players without meeting them more than once, or showing much interest. A number of players have been convinced they were going elsewhere before having their name called out by WCE. They keep their cards very close to their chest, which is why any reports of WCE 'openly' talking about trading anything is utter BS before it happens.

Have you considered the possibility that Barrett’s mail is coming directly from Reid, Reid’s family and Reid’s manager themselves? Sounds to me like they are being as forceful as they possibly can be behind the scenes to warn WC not to draft him (without openly tampering).

Obsessed with this btw. I know he's saying "something silly", but that's in reference to the moving parts not the viability of the trade.

* me dead...I wish they'd give it a break.
Yes - We're open to offers, we'd be mad not to listen.

ROB - 4 1st rounders may do it.

Maybe, just maybe if something silly happens lie Oliver going to Haw for 3.

Then Melb 3,5,13 and F1 to us. Sure, we'd think hard about it then. Otherwise bugger off Vic media

Oliver is literally better than any pick 1 since Riewoldt in 2000, and a reasonable chance of surpassing him, but we'll sell him, another top 5 pick and two firsts for pick 1.

You don't have to take it, it's a 3 year contract and the 'issues' about him being reluctant to move aren't about him personally, but his parents not being keen.

There's been a few posters from various team boards that live in the area come onto the board and state that if he goes to WCE, the whole family's moving with him, so it appears it's more a case of his family being reluctant to let him go than he himself not wanting to move.

Aside from that, a club would be negligent to not trade pick #1 for picks 2 & 3. 4 & 5 would be a great offer in any other year but this particular top 10 isn't even. It's Reid>>McKercher>Duursma then throw a blanket over over the rest.

At this stage, if it were next year, you'd snap 4 & 5 up in a heartbeat for pick 1, unless someone significantly distances themselves form the pack.

O’Sullivan/Curtin and Watson combo would help out WCE a fair bit you would imagine

Barrett's 'mail' is his opinion that WCE would much prefer to pick the top WA prospect over the top Vic one, a stance he's repeated numerous times without even alluding to any flight risk vibes.

Also, why would Reid and his manager put out strong statements a number of times that he's no issue with moving?

There's ways to play the game. Sheezel's a perfect example of this from just last year. Clearly didn't want to move and was very wishy-washy in his comments about moving interstate.

Reid's personally gone on record twice saying it's a complete non-issue and he'd be perfectly happy to go interstate, no 'give it a shot' like Sheezel said last year.

Regardless, both Shuey and Gaff didn't want to move to Perth at all when they were drafted and WCE chose them anyway. A player's attitude drastically changes when they settle into a system.

Even if it were 'known' that Reid wanted to stay in Vic, I'd still expect the club to pick him 100% of the time unless an offer to trade was too good to refuse. 9 times out of 10 it'll work out for the club drafting the player, despite any misgivings about moving interstate a player may have. You can't get spooked by kids not wanting to move far from home.

I said that I saw that rumour start on twitter before it was picked up by Clark - Who said the Crows COULD BE into Petty or Sparrow because they're South Australian. I haven't seen the Crows confirm their interest in Petty anywhere, can you share a link to that?
Are you seriously saying that you need an official statement from the Crows that they were into Petty? Maybe we should wait for an official statement that the Eagles will take Curtin with the number 1 pick too.

It was reported by multiple journos that they asked about him and Sparrow and we knocked them back.

lol at people suggesting to trade the best player in the AFL plus a first rounder for Harley Reid lol. The odds of Harley Reid being better than Oliver is probably 0.05%.

Also, as Oliver is better than Petracca (the 4 bnfs speak for themselves, 2x Aflca winner), why don't we trade Petracca for Ginbey and we'll throw in a F1 lol

Lol he's not the best player in the AFL mate. Not even top 5.

They all say the right things publicly but it’s clear Barrett has some behind the scenes mail from the Reid camp. If there’s potential for a Horne-Francis type situation to eventuate for the Eagles, with a discontented kid over there, it’s a problem. It’s a big risk when you could cash him in now for spread of high quality kids in a re-build. Big decision for WC, by no means a lay down misère.

I think the Eagles will do a deal.

Clarry is worth two no.1 picks.

Clarry is worth two no.1 picks.

Pick 2&3 for Oliver and 13 would do it for me.

Draft Mckercher, Dursma and O’Sullivan. Set us up for next 10 years.

Bring our F1 over as well for Windsor.

Need a haul like Port got with Rozee, Butters and Duursma and this year is our best chance at that. We need to look a different side in 2024.

6 Brownlow votes in 15 games this season.

Would be lucky to be top 25
The Brownlow has lost all its substance this year with the flawed voting system.

Not saying that's related to Oliver but don't think I'll be taking that all that serious now.

For those that still take the brownlow serious then yes, 6 votes in 15 games is pretty poor for a player of his calibre.

Sydney will take Oliver if you want. We can't offer much for him as we don't have much but we need a friend for Grundy when we are out at work so he doesn't get lonely. We promise to treat him well, we will take him for walks daily and let him sleep in our bed.

Would do straight swap for Gulden

McKercher would far and away be most WCE poster's preference but if there's a list strategy in place to prioritise talls this draft then so be it.

One of our posters put a post in one of the draft threads yesterday which summed up where defenders 'should' be picked due to their success rate. Think it's was in the Reid thread. Basically you're statistically better picking up KPDs from the second round onwards.

Watson would be a no go, IMO. Already potted the club on a podcast recently and doesn't fill any glaring needs for us.

Curtin I'd personally only take if WCE wanted to play him as a utility and not a KPD.

Would be far more interested in a McKercher/Duursma combo personally, or even cutting North's grass and taking Sanders.

WCE have split their first rounder in last 2 NDs and I expect them to look at it again next year due to the evenness of the top 5, at this stage.

This is not the year to be splitting pick 1, in my opinion.

I just laughed at the way it was reported and how it grew legs off twitter.

Crom: Give us Petty or Sparrow for McAdam
Dees: Lol no
Crom: Ok

Media: CROWS TRY TO GET PETTY AND SPARROW!

*That's if it even actually happened. I mean, I'm sure it's impossible that some journos just repeat what others have reported, whose original report was just a what if anyways...

All aside from the fact Petty's family don't live anywhere near Adelaide.

JFC are you guys still talking about trading Clarry??? Let it rest ffs. How is this board still discussing this, i came in here 2 weeks ago and y'all were talking bout trading him, i come in here today, talking bout trading him. It isnt gonna happen, the club thankfully isn't as dumb as whichever of you guys are suggesting this. If you want to post dreamy trade trade scenarios, how about you go get us a key fwd that will help us next yr and lay off trading our best players for some unknown pick 1. Seriously absurd. We've been tormented by decades of being a laughing stock, we're finally a good team with 3 top 4 finishes in a row and you guys wanna go back to being a laughing stock with only potential to dream about.

Yeh it was a disappointing finals 2 yrs in a row, but if we kicked straight, if Melk or Petty didnt get injured we would've beaten Collingwood, certainly Carlton and then who knows what would've happened. The difference between having another year of development into Rooey, getting Petty fit, having another yr of development for some of our young guys and if we stay healthy we are firmly in our premiership window for another couple of years. If we traded Trac, or Clarry for an 18 y.o we would drop back to middle of the pack, may as well trade Gawn, Viney, May and everyone else while we're at it and next yr we'll get a pick 1! Wooohoo! If pick 1s were as important as premierships we'd be the most successful team of the last 40 yrs.

Now, we need a 2nd ruck/ a ruck/fwd and or a key fwd to hold down a post while Jefferson puts on another 5kgs. how about we go after Tom Lynch who makes no sense for Richmond, or go after Riley Thilthorpe and if that isnt possible we add Mcadam and a 2nd ruck from somewhere then add in some elite youth with our picks and we try and make the most of the best Melb squad that we've had since the 60s and try and win another premiership while Clarry and Trac are the right side of 30. If we recruit well with these picks who knows maybe we can actually extend the window. Harley Reid may be a gun but he's one player and i trust our recruiting team to make the most of our picks. End rant.
