HS (paywalled) has subheader...

A contracted flag hero’s future is uncertain after Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin encouraged them to assess the market in the upcoming trade period.

One is presumably Harmes. Anyone know who the other is?

Clubs are exploring how they could put together a deal to persuade Melbourne to part with one of the best players in the competition, acting in the belief that Clayton Oliver could be available in this year’s trade period for the right deal.

Melbourne sources dead-batted queries over Oliver’s future, pointing to the seven-year contract he signed only last season worth about $1 million a year to remain at the club until 2030. However, a source familiar with the 26-year-old midfielder’s situation said the Demons were prepared to explore what clubs would offer.

“G’day Tim. Any interest in trading Clarry?”

“No mate. None”

“Okay, bye.”

You really think we are that dumb?

If youre not saying "make us an offer and ill let you know if hes available" as a list manager you should be fired.

Always invite offers, you never know what someone will throw your way.

Ok we get it, you don’t want to discuss it.

Others do, so let them.

I just discussed it. That’s my take.

Yours is the bloke is a ball butcher with an attitude problem who only got 6 votes in this year’s Brownlow. So presumably, since he’s crap in your eyes, you’re willing to field lowball offers?

smh. People need to understand just cause some of us want to trade him doesnt men we'd accept any old shit. There is a difference.

You trade him to get better and a more balanced team, you dont trade him to try and get worse ffs.

People make phone calls and ask questions. So?

There’s zero evidence Melbourne has “invited offers” for Clarry.

There's a difference between us ringing round and us answering the phone. If clubs call us you listen to offers. Its pretty simple. If you dont as a list manager youre not doing your job.

Madness to trade your best player in a premiership window. Not only that, spruik him to other clubs when his stock in your eyes has waned.

You’ve been openly potting him for weeks but now presumably think he’s worth two top five picks or something along those lines? You can’t justify that logic.

Who is spruiking him? Its literally been reported clubs are circling. Meaning they are calling. We aren't the desperate one calling around trying to sell him for pennies on the dollar. The offers come to us.

Ive been potting him coz im saying hes overrated for our particular list, we have inside ball winners. That doesnt mean I sell him for peanuts. Jesus Christ. I said id trade him for the equivalent of ~ two top 5 picks. I know his value. I can seperate me thinking hes overrated and his actual worth in the real world if he was available. I dont know why you cant get that through your head.

I can’t get my head around any desire to trade him tbh.

The only reason would be if it’s true that he has off field ‘party’ problems that he refuses to address. In that case other clubs will know about them too and we’d have to cop a fire sale deal for him.

I’m not buying this ‘team balance’ nonsense. They should shut the joint down and padlock the doors if they think trading one of the best players in the competition for draft picks is the way to challenge for more silverware. Particularly with Gawn and May in the twighlight of their careers.

Our 23/24 draft hand has more than enough capital to address some areas of concern without risking blowing the joint up.

Look at the below image and tell me again we have no team balance issue

Who here would take Logan McDonald and Papley for Oliver

Can see why others might be tempted but a no for me, id trade Oliver on the proviso of fixing the midfield balance and/or a KPD. We have thrown enough resources into the forward line. Id really want to get back a pick that would get us Curtain or McKercher in return, ideally both or one of them and another player.

Same midfield team balance was good enough to hold the Cup up in 2021.

Get some nippy, skilful runners off wing and halfback to complement them. Find the next Kiddy Coleman. Don’t blow the joint up.

We need to lose this “it worked in 2021” mentality.

The game has changed and teams have passed us. There’s a reason we got cooked 2 final series in a row.

If we want to sit on our 2021 laurels we arnt going anywhere, we need to evolve.

Clarry spotted in Alberton, expected to nominate Port when the trade window opens. He’s got a taste for losing finals and wants the good times to roll until he retires.

Tim Lamb has been wooing Wines, and he’s keen to reunite with his childhood bff Viney.

I’m hearing a Clarry-Wines swap with picks to balance the trade.

We are sending 13, 25 and 33 to get this done. Port will use the picks to close out their Ratuglea, BZK and Sweet trades.

What a master stroke for the Dees! We just got the best player of the best midfield in the competition!

Replace Wines with Butters and would be feasible.
