He's a work hard, party hard kind of guy

Which is fine when you're on top of your game and one of the best players in the game. Doesn't work as well when you're out injured for 10 weeks.
But it's one period of time. Like you weigh 10 weeks vs like 7 yrs of elite performance including being one of the best 4 players in a premiership team.

I rly hope this is just a wake up call for him or if we trade him I hope we get back a player to help us win now. Like if we were to trade him for Ben King + pick 4 + future first and we send back some later picks so GC get their points that would be a hell of a lot better than just a couple firsts. It's one thing to float his name in trade talks but if we **** this up we go from being a contender to not very quickly.

Ppl speak about midfield depth and I don't see it. Who is this midfield depth??? It's Viney who is almost 30, Trac who's 28, Gus who's one concussion from retirement snd Sparrow who is a workhorse but will never be more than a role player and you don't win premierships when your midfield is built around role players. Oh and Harmes who has 1 foot out the door. That's it.

Can Rivers and Kozzy get more midfield time? Would've loved to see Kozzy get more midfield time tbh but I don't think he has the tank (just speculating as i was surprised after R1 he didnt get a lot more run in the middle) and while I love Rivers I think his run off half back is super Important. He'd prob be an outside mid if moved to on ball.

Orazio Fantasia as a rookie anyone? Still only 28. Always injured but absolutely can play if he gets his body right.

Whilst he can be a handy player, he's played 21 out of his last possible 88 games. I'd probably rather use the list spot on someone who can be called upon when needed.

Would rookie him for sure.

So an interesting made up mega trade on trade radio by i think its Adam Cooney. Huge 5 way deal:

in this the Dees give - 5 + 25 + future 2nd + Oliver

Dees receive - pick 1, Riley Thilthorpe, Shane Mcadam.

So we'd get a young ruck fwd whom im not entirely sure how good he is apart from knowing that he was a top 5 pick a few yrs ago. Plus we get Reid to assumedly replace Clarry and Mcadam as steaknives.

Now im as anti trading Clarry as anyone in here, but if we were to trade him, this isn't a horrible return and if Reid is as good as ppl make out and if Thilthorpe can actually become a gun fwd then maybe this deal would improve our team...

*Obv there are a bunch of other stuff moving around. What are your thoughts fellow dees fans?

Old school parenting vibes. Bet we also made him smoke the whole bag when we caught him on the glass bbq.

Yeah, hes a grown adult. Telling him to move in with the captain so he can watch over him seems pretty ridiculous. Must be absolutely zero trust and when it gets to that stage what is the point.

So we downgrade our first round pick four spots, lose the best player we've ever had along with two second round picks, and get Shane McCrapam and some dude named Riley back.

This sounds like a total rort.

Its a an upgrade from 5 to 1 mate.

Would absolutely take this deal.

Fwiw I don't think Clarry is going anywhere.

I'm not the one suggesting it, it was suggested by Adam cooney on trade radio. i have been extremely outspoken about Oliver leaving, i think hes the best mid we've ever had and i categorically do not want to trade him, i think we should help him with his off field stuff and win another premiership with him in the middle.

But if we are to trade him i want to get back guys who will help us win now. Reid is apparently a ready to go rook in the mold of Ashcroft/Daicos, Thilthorpe was a pick 3 or or 4 like 3 yrs ago, again i dont know how good he is, im not saying that disparaging him i genuinely have no clue as i dont watch much Adelaide games. Just wanted to hear opinions on what people thought of the deal.

:( little typing error sorry.

Still sounds like a rort to me- if we lose Oliver I wanna hold onto that Top 5 pickie.
Dont disagree, not sure what to think, but i think it comes down to how much better Reid is than whoever we'd get at pick 6 (obv unknown) and how good Thilthorpe is. I think if Thilthorpe was in this draft and was available at 6 we'd prob pick him with that pick given our need for a ready made but still young ruck/KPF. Plus we'd still have 13. I dunno about it but it does tick off a few needs for us, though i dont love given up the extra picks as well as Oliver.

Don't see why you wouldn't try Fantasia. If he gets seriously injured you can grab someone else in the mid season anyway. Plus we only debut like 2 blokes a year anyway so he's not taking someone's opportunity

What I read on Fox Sports is that the whole mismanagement of Oliver's hammy injury wasn't all completely on Oliver but on the club as well. According to Nathan Buckley (who believe it or not grew up a Demons supporter and still has a passing interest in the club), the club had Oliver running on the second day of his initial rehab. Even though Hamstring injuries like Oliver's typically require a week and a half of rehabbing before running activities are resumed. This advice perhaps contributed to the complications that Oliver experienced later, as his troublesome hamstring clearly wasn't ready for running on. So Oliver was partly justified in blowing up at the trainers, because they contributed to his hammy drama. I don't know for sure what happened but I know this, at the point of his injury, Oliver was experiencing another banner year. He was at least tracking for an All-Australian type season at the very minimum. The guy is a superstar in his sleep.
I just think some of the fans perhaps take Clayton Oliver for granted and think these type of generational midfielders are expendable. Sorry they are not. Clayton Oliver is the most sublimely talented player that we have. And in my opinion if you offered me Harley Reid for Clayton Oliver. I would still take Clayton Oliver without a second thought. Only player who would tempt me into a trade for Oliver would be Harry McKay. But that's not happening. So let's move on from this crazy talk.

If Harry McKay is tempting to you your opinion of Oliver cant be that high :p

Also, as I said, if Selwyn mismanaged the injury he'd be out the door, there is no way a fitness boss survives gross mismanagement of a star. I dont believe a word of that.

If the report was about our medical staff sending him back out there against Port with the hamstring injury and Oliver was pissed about that id be far more likely to believe it.

If Clarry has moved in with Max forget it guys, he’s staying. The only pipe being smoked now is of the peace variety ☮️ ✌🏼

So let’s get back to discussing what we’re going to do with 5, 13, 25, F1 and change.
