K Brown and rookie upgrade as other 2

We interestingly rushed to clear our cap as well, here’s hoping it’s for something. Surely we do what Adelaide are doing with Petty to a key forward.0
Yikes. I don't think our young depth amounts to much at all. There's about 5 guys under 21 you could stake a claim will be really good players, then you have a bunch of guys like Laurie and Woey who have shown bits and pieces but nothing majorly encouraging. Banking on the likes of Kye Turner and Blake Howes to offer anything at senior level is a gamble at best.

I reckon our young depth is solid, but where we lack is the A grade quality youngsters - We can add 2-3 of them this year and then I reckon our young stocks are pretty good.

I'm still a hold ATM I honestly don't see the big deal with the picks traded out so far, I'll wait to see if they could trade up. To me we haven't gained much and the losses are negligible.

Possibly for the future, but how confident are you that those guys can come in next season and make a meaningful impact for a team that wants to be contending.

The best 22 next year, if McAdam and Fullarton come in, looks like this IMO:

McVee, Tomlinson, Lever
Rivers, May, Bowey
Langdon, Viney, Hunter
ANB, Petty, McAdam
Pickett, JVR, Fritsch
Gawn, Oliver, Petracca
Brayshaw, Salem, Chandler, Sparrow, Smith

The bolded all have question marks, be they form, injuries or age, and May, Gawn and Hunter are heading into the wrong side of their peaks.

Outside of that, in terms of guys who could realistically get a gig, you have Spargo, Laurie, Schache, Jefferson, Howes, McDonald, Woewodin, D.Turner, Brown, Fullarton.

I'm more talking about just our young demographic for the future.

For mine - McVee, JVR, Bowey, Pickett, Rivers, Sparrow, Petty and Chandler is a solid group of 23 and under B Graders, with a few potential to be A Grade.

Woey, Howes, Turner and Spargo all potential to be B Grade.

Add in 2-3 top 20 picks this year and that's a solid group in the young age bracket IMO.

Should have just kept 14 and traded 27 and 35 for future picks, allow us to have a strong draft hand next year if we don’t want to take many picks to the draft this year.
Our philosophy of trade up as high as possible and worry about next year, next year kind of works if we think Petty will go.

We can’t go into this year without Petty but if he leaves next year it buys us 12 months to work on a replacement and/or will hopefully give us some picks to move up the board again next year.

It’s just a shame that other clubs have caught onto the strategy of moving as high up the board for less picks.

Tough call. If pick 6 was pick 4, then yes. Reid is a flight risk.

Why would he be a flight risk? There's no AFL team in Echuca.

West Coast would be a great landing spot for a country lad. Enjoy some great beaches and enjoy all of the (totally legitimate and not breaches of player payment rules) perks of playing for one of the richest clubs in the competition.

Does it really matter if Petty officlally requests a trade or not? It's clear he's happy to go to the Crows on the deal they are offering. Only thing that matters is whether Adelaide can offer us enough to change our minds and release him.

Exactly, doesn't matter, he's contracted for another two years, Adelaide have to make us happy to trade him. You're going to need to pay significant overs to tempt us.

Petty should get his head read if he turns down the Crom's offer of $800k/year. Surely we are not paying him anywhere close to this.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this is Petty’s manager’s doing trying to drive up his price/contract value for that extra sweet sweet commission.

Watch us now burn that cap space we just freed up on Petty for nothing extra in 2024 then what we would have had already.

Melbourne better back up the truck and re-negotiate his contract if the rumours of Adelaide offering $800k a year is true.

It would be a disaster for culture and morale if they held him to his contract and made him forgo hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Not worth being stubborn and trying to hold him to his contract when the prize will just be a bitter and resentful player with a busted foot.
