I think Kane's view on this one has merit, except for the fact our forward stocks are so thin it's arguably more important to have Petty for 12 months and lose him for less. Only way we can really afford to trade him now is if we were getting a genuinely good tall forward in return.

Not a great situation and if Petty doesn't perform this year and/or gets injured we may well lose him for not much next year.

Ah yes, just what we need, more tweaks to an already ****ed system. Keep chasing you tail AFL.

Just blow it up and start over.
Scrap it all, get rid of all the rugby state academy bs and be done with compromised drafts once and for all. Hell I'd even be ok with scrapping F/S once we get Mini Jeff White in the door, tho the AFL will prob never get rid of that. The draft is supposed to be fair ffs

Hopefully Adelaide up the ante one more time on Petty.
We net 2 first rounders and bring in an older plodder like Gunston/Darling/Lobb/Tex to fill a void for a year or 2 until Jeffo is ready or we can bring in another forward.

Petty will probably be injured half of next year and **** off at the end of it anyway, cash in now.

Gunston? Mate that's a horrible suggestion

Melksham out for most of the year, Petty with a foot injury, Fritsch with a foot injury, TMac with a foot injury, Brown with 1 knee... Gunston isn't the worst idea given we'd get him for a pick we wouldn't use anyway.

Nsh, he's cracked the sads and now he wants to go home. Also he shunned us, fk him.

Would assume it will be a very quiet free agency period for us if we lose him, get that compo pick as high as possible, decent chance we could be a bottom 8 side by then with the current state of things, if the Crows are paying him 800k it could work out alright.

If his foot is ****ed then at least we didnt commit ourselves to a dumb contract.

Yep few injuries and we don't play finals next year. I feel much better not having huge expectations, last two years have sucked. Give me sweet sweet mediocrity baby.

If the reporting is right we tried, he didn't want an extension.

Personally I'd happily trade him right now for Pick 10, 20 and McAdam or similar except for the fact it would bring us closer to a handing games to Brown/Schache/Tmac next year.

If you do such a trade youre pretty much committing to us not competing (this is under the assumption he comes back fine from the foot injury). Im not against that line of thinking but cant have one foot in and one foot out as a club, the list shake ups shouldn't stop there. (do we consider trading May etc)

Meanwhile keeping him buys us 2 years to assess things and we still get a compo pick at worst at the end of it

Want to wait for Jeff’s two twins after that as well, could be our bookends for the future.

Yeah I agree, you can't trade him now unless you're getting in a tall forward equal or better than Petty to replace him.

But I don't know about two years, he's not that good a player that I would keep him in 2025 if he's not committed going forward. If he wants to leave next year I'd be trading him rather than having him mope around running down the clock waiting for a single first round compo pick.

The better he plays in 2025 the more money he gets, not sure he'd mope around.

Jackson a different case, he was being offered a massive deal no matter what he did.

Yeah but if he plays well next year as a forward he's going to be worth multiple good picks in a trade, so if he requests a trade I'd let him go happily.

Conversely if he plays poorly or is injured next year and still requests a trade then I wouldn't be keen to hold him to a final year of a contract in 2025. Cut your losses and go after a better player.

Just show Adelaide the tape of Pettys first game into him crying because someone said a mean word to him, they won't want him after that. We'll only have to pay peanuts to keep him. Chess not Checkers.

Not against trading him next year if we are in the same spot as now with him and we move down the ladder.

I just dont see much benefit trading him now unless we are committed to a bit of a list clean out or get a player like Fogarty back.

Gunston would be a nice addition to our collection of cooked dinosaur forwards.

Kane saying we should trade Petty now. But do we even know what they offered? It would leave us majorly thin in the key forward options unless they have us Fogarty or Thilthorpe.

Kane likes to be in the news, this is a low hanging branch for him to get some headlines. He may be correct in the long term but it would be a poor decision for us for next season.
