Our forwardline is like one of those wildcard events the Olympics puts on to encourage participation from developing countries. Jack Darling could be our own Eric the Eel.

Ask yourself, if we're rewinding back to our finals series this year and we had the option between Tmac or Darling as our key forward, I know who I'd much rather..

I think we'd be silly to at least not have the conversation. Tex Walker and Tom Hawkins were All Australian forwards at 33 years of age, so why can't he rejuvenate his career?

New environment and a fresh start could do wonders for him.

Why can't we have neither 🤷‍♂️

Because one has shown to be an injury prone plodder who's had 1 good year over a six year period as a forward, whilst the other has shown to be a consistent goal kicker who actually stays on the park.

Edit
*My mistake The Dr just realised you said "neither" not either as I thought..

Big picture though, we have been looking for a KPF re Hawkins while also saying we are desperate to play Petty forward so it would seem Goody still thinks the 3 tall set up is a winner.

I think Darling is more a lead up option who takes a break deep when he needs a rest. Think he actually fits better in the side with what we do than Hawkins does (not suggesting Darling is a better player)

This is all irrelevant if we trade Petty obviously.

Yeah. He's definitely more of a lead up forward.

So, we'd have to radically adjust our ball movement and delivery to make it work... and we know how that will go.

Can't be any worse than it is now.

We've had 2 years to prepare to fix our forward line and we've brought in Spudndy and now looking at Hawkins, Darling etc. Not good enough Melbourne Football Club

Drafted who you wanted last year. Youre as much to blame as anyone. :P

6, 11 & F1st for 1, 24 and Darling Id do, WC probably wouldn't

it really depends on how highly we rate the player we think we can get at 11 this year which id have no idea of, don't really want another situation like Jefferson where we didnt seem overly excited to pick him.

Do we think Curtin will be there at 6?

Its going to be very hard for me to get excited if one of Reid, McKercher, Curtin or Duursma isn't in a Melbourne jumper come draft night.

The more I think about it the more I think trading petty could be a net gain, but we’d need two firsts with one top 10 I can’t see how Adelaide do that.
I think you'd definitely consider 10+20+McAdam if we could get Darling in but it's clear Adelaide think they can get their prize for unders. So it's a moot point.

Pick 10 for Petty in a straight swap is fair value.

We got May and a player for pick 6 just a few years ago and he is a far superior player.

10+20+player for Petty is Dodoro levels of stupid

May was 27 years old and wasnt anywhere near the player he's been for us at The Suns.

Suns would have gotten more for May if they had waited a year for Free Agency too but they were in a $2m dollar cap hole so they had to lose him earlier and we were happy to pay 6 for him to beat the bidding war free agency would bring.

If you want a direct comparison, then look at the Hogan trade. Hogan was 23 at the time of the trade. Petty is 23 now.

Hogan had 71 games experience. Petty currently sits at 62. Both played 51 games in their last 3 years in red and blue.

This is as close to a like-for-like comparison you can get.

Hogan nabbed pick 6+23.

Hogan was regarded as one of the most promising key forward prospects, with more accolades: Rising Star, 2x leading goal kicker, 2x Under 22 team, plus his VFL exploits. But there were also some genuine concerns about his attitude and durability.

But somehow Petty, a guy who has only played 2 good games as a forward, is going to command pick 10+20+McAdam?

Certainly looks that the whole Petty trade hasn't been fully shut imo.
If we trade Petty, I reckon we end up with Reid somehow. Probably take Darling and McAdam in that mix also. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Keeping our pucks and taking Curtin excites me as well though. Reckon he's a strong chance to be best 1or 2 in this draft.

I tend to agree. However I also feel given he had 2 years to run crows are going to have to pay more than they’d like to.
Pick 10, 20 and McAdam would get it done. Overs of course, but that's what it's going to take. They seem very keen. With his foot injury, I'd be taking it and packaging it up with Darling, McAdam and push very very hard for pick 1.

I would be asking for 10, 14 and McAdam

If they are offering a mill bucks that’s a fair price. McAdam isn’t worth shit.

Lever was worth 2 firsts and wasn’t even contracted. They have 10+16 for a 28 year old Bryce Gibbs.

That's probably been posted already, but it's pissing me off. Teams like Geelong, Essendon & Adelaide holding uncontracted players ransom acting like they have all the power in negotiations. Let 'em go for nothing then, they can all go to the draft and you can all go blow yourselves.

No idea who they think they are. McAdam is out of contract, like pretending you're in a position of power holding a butter knife while the other person is holding a gun.

Nicer imagery, but same vibe
