Anyway, I dare say the reason we didn't go for him was the lack of 'competitiveness' that Goodwin craves.

Club is ****ed if they are recruiting just off competitiveness. That shouldn't be the sole focus, you can afford a couple of lazy players who bring an element you dont have to the table. Infuriating if thats the reason.

Pies have a couple of one way runners who dont exactly put in great defensive efforts all the time, same as the Lions, thats why you have shit kicker foot soldiers, to do their dirty work

Think this might be our most uninspiring off season for a long time. Considering our draft capital and cap space at our disposal.

I thought last year Grundy and Hunter was bad but this year takes the cake with the big name recruits to get us over the line for the flag being Fullarton and McAdam.

Can’t really see where our improvement is going to come from.

Did anybody pose the question to Tim Lamb at any point?

I'm just implying that we could have asked earlier in the year/pre-trade period and been knocked back, hypothetically. Anyway, I dare say the reason we didn't go for him was the lack of 'competitiveness' that Goodwin craves.

I'll grant that as an error, absolutely. The hand-wringing over a lack of a trade for a superstar KPF is silly though, considering there are none on the market.

Petty and JVR, JVR and Koschitzke, JVR and Khamis – it will all make minimal difference if we continually kick to packs of 10 in the forward pocket.

Would it be nice to have a Lynch/King/Naughton type that can clunk marks in packs? Absolutely, but it doesn't appear that they are/were realistic options.
When you hear about a bunch of clubs being keen on a player that info is coming from their management. They are trying to pump up the market and sell their client. If we asked the question we would have been named amongst the likes of Adelaide, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, and Brisbane. Even if Chol never had any intention of coming to us.

So yeah I think for whatever reason the club just didn't rate him.

I don't necessarily think that any of the other options would be world beaters, but our pursuit of Hawkins showed we clearly identified a need and gave up when we could get our favourite option.

Agreed, but it's been a hallmark of our recruiting since Goody took over (with the exception of Brown).

Anyway, there's probably a reason Hardwick has wanted to get rid of him twice now.

It's pretty much the same as 2019 when we looked to improve ourselves through the high end of the draft.

Our trade period in 2019:

Pick 8 from North for pick 26, 50 and F1

Pick 10, 28 and F4 from Freo for Pick 8

That's fair, and I think you're right, for whatever reason, the club just doesn't rate Chol.

Look, I'd love us to go and grab a KPF too, but the market this year was really just a bunch of NQRs that would hardly move the needle.

Hopefully it's indicative of an internal attitude that our gameplan—not personnel—is the priority for us to improve. With slick ball movement, Petty and JVR could look great, who knows.

Regardless, I'm happy that we're investing in the draft and have positioned ourselves to get two picks in before the quality drops off.

Yeah, you can nearly guarantee this is happening haha.

That being said, O'Sullivan is considered to be one of the most 'competitive' players in the draft, so he'd be in with a chance too, lol.

#contestdefense

Henry to the saints for a F2nd rounder, and swap of later picks, yet Crows think McAdam is worth more, lol

Tell me you’re not sick of this campaigner?

Keep this up and you'll earn yourself a holiday.

Edit: Like clockwork. See ya Jay.

“Teams are a question of balance. What is needed is not well-balanced individuals, but individuals who balance well with one another.”

(Belbin, 2017)

All that time and money spent studying... I finally found a use for it!

So well put. I love it, great stuff.

I don’t know why but Sanders excites me more than O’Sullivan.

Probably because he can have a bigger impact earlier or could help let Trac play up forward permanently. More of the same I know.

O’Sullivan makes me nervous after Mcasey and Granger-Barass, especially also since there was **** all decent tall forwards in the u18s to actually compete/test/prove his wares against. Any chump who has a bit of size and can mark a ball would look decent in the league this year.

Anyone know how he went against Jed Walter’s?

Maybe you like KFC a lot and you wish to know about the 12 secret herbs and spices. I know I do.

Great, now I made myself hungry.

That's how I'm selling the prospect of Sanders to myself.

I don't like the pick, but he seems the type that could come in straight away and give us a bit more flexibility with Trac.

Obviously a big hypothetical, but strikes me as the type that people would be hugely happy with for his first couple of years (as he's more than ready to go), but his limitations will stick out more as his career progresses and he could potentially frustrate in future.

Regardless, I'd consider him to be one of the safer picks in the draft. Can just find the footy.

Sounds like Ollie Wines

Not a bad comparison. Reckon he might be slightly more dynamic, but really seems to be that 'high floor, low-ish ceiling' type player.

If you were drafting based purely off U/18 performance, he'd just about be the top pick. But clubs obviously see the limitations he has in terms of potential.

I do agree that there were no marquee players available. But at the end of the day some times you just need to make your team better or forward line better. Schultz has made Collingwood a far better team. Far better. If we through a truck load of money at him, he would've made us a lot better also.
