I'm happy to pass on him now. Teach his manager for getting his clients hopes up. Hope Leake sacks him 😊
They don't call him No Leaks Leake for nothing.

Watched a bit of Demattia yesterday, would be such a Dees pick. Great hands in close, good burst from stoppage, cant kick to save himself.

I dont give a shit about his standards and competitiveness Simo. He cant kick so he is a no.

Doubt it would be us, probably just the kids manager knowing we have that pick

The club telegraphs their early picks every year.

The last time we had a genuine surprise was when we got JVR, I guess we didn't expect him to fall to us. It was expected that we were taking Howes with our first pick who ended up sliding to our later pick.

Thank god it played out like that. Taking Howes in the first round would have been another JT blunder.

This was the game, spot a kick that hits a target .... More of what we already have. Absolute nightmare fuel.

Got 38 seconds in to see a kick hit a target. I'm just being a dick. I'm more concerned he missed that tackle when the opponent had no idea he was coming.

Agree re DeMattia. Looks a good battler, but not one who should really be considered with a high pick, especially with what we already have (and abundance of mids who can't kick).

Bluelegs get in here and defend your man

Fair enough that video is much worse than the other I posted but also looks pretty windy. Tbf I was never in love with him, just thought he had more weapons than a guy like Sanders in a similar role.

I hope he becomes a star so you can be part of the ARG finally.

He doesn’t look particularly damaging I that video but I will observe that he does a lot of work on the inside.

With his speed I could see him being one of those kids who’s good enough for an inside role in juniors, but gets pushed to an outside role at AFL level.

That might assist with his disposal a bit. I’ve also seen other footage where his disposals didn’t look too bad.

That said, I would be a bit underwhelmed if we take him with 11.

I think there’s heaps of development in him.

I wouldn’t call his kicking bad. I think he can both run himself into trouble and his kicking at speed/under pressure could use work. But he can be a very effective kick with the speed he gets the footy to travel at.

You should take him at 2 or 3 for sure.

Sacrificing picks 27 & 35 to move three spots from 14 to 11, in the vain hope of WC accepting a Hail Mary pass for Reid, was bad business by Tim Lamb. Reeked of desperation and was never going to work.

People will argue 27 & 35 “aren’t good picks anyway and the draft is weak” but it’s a defeatist way to think. You don’t see Hawthorn recruiters whining about all their picks not being in the top 12 of the draft, yet there they go year after year picking very good kids well into the 2nd, 3rd and even 4th rounds.

Concerning that our recruiters aren’t confident in their ability to find talent at later picks, not to mention that they couldn’t read the room and understand that North are the only serious suitor for WC’s pick 1.

WC will either keep it or only trade it for 2 & 3 from North with probably something going back the other way. From early on I said a scenario of 2 & 3 to WC / 1 & 23 to North would be somewhere around the mark. Short of both clubs agreeing to that Reid will be going to the Eagles.

Melbourne throwing away two decent draft picks for very little was dumb.

Agreed. Was never going to be enough for us. The 27/35 points alone are worth pick 13. Could have traded with GCS or traded into next year’s draft. Whilst I realise you lack key forwards, not trading Petty for pick 10 (if those reports are true) and Shane McAdam was even more nuts.

Disagree. We're in the window at the moment (just), and trading Petty would have likely slammed that shut. If he requests a trade again next year, he'll still be under contract and likely command the same value. Not much to really gain from trading him now.

Agreed.
The only mitigating factor re the Petty decision was the fact that without him in 2024 to hold down a key forward spot we’d be in more trouble than we already are in the forward 50. It’s the weakest area of the ground for us. Otherwise, yes I also would’ve traded him for 10 & McAdam.

Can absolutely see where you’re both coming from RE: KPF but his Lisfranc injury is pretty bad, I’d be surprised if he has any real impact in 2024 and whilst showing some signs I think he’s overrated as a forward. Crows aren’t offering pick 10 next year if he’s OOC and as I’ve said before, Pick 10 IMO would have bought someone like Tom Lynch if there’s substance to those rumours. In saying that I hope Petty can get on the park and have a decent run at it, but I still feel this will be seen as a missed opportunity in 12 months. 6,10 and 11 might have been enough for Harley, we’ll never know.
