That's fair enough. I don't have a problem with the player that he is, I just don't think he'll develop into the player that we need him to be. Part of the reason he can be too unselfish is that he lacks real pace and his kicking skills are really not that good, hence the conservatism with his disposal. Those two traits are things that he can work on, but if you don't have them by his age, they're never going to be great assets for the player.

I won't melt super hard if we pick him, because I get the appeal (even though it's not my preference). I will melt, however, if we trade our F1 with 6 to bring him in. Would just be foolish IMO.
I reckon you’re pretty safe on that trade scenario- there’s a good reason I’m not a recruiting manager, or any kind of negotiator, IRL.

Haha, but that's what a footy discussion forum is for, so appreciate the input/different opinions (especially when they're not just melting for the sake of melting).

I did see it get raised as a possibility in the media the other day though, so guess I just got triggered pretty hard by it. At the end of the day, will back the recruiters in – feels like Windsor and Tholstrup are the likely picks barring some last-minute curveballs.

Bizarre giving away a future first to move up 2 spots. Who's the target? Or is Reid still the prime objective? Hopefully it's to secure Curtin. I don't see the point otherwise, as Hawks potentially could take him. Melts will come hard and fast if we move up the order to take Watson or we don't take Curtin if still on the table at 6! I feel we need to hold onto next year's first rounder for a potential gun forward to trade in.

Sanders apparently, to get ahead of the Bulldogs. :$

I'd love it if we took Watson. Looks better than Curtin. I've never seen a guy hyped up so much that could slide to 10 in Curtin.

Why would he slide? You've been going on about home sickness all offseason yet you fail to recognise it here for some reason? It's almost like there are no WA clubs picking between 2-9 hey.

My final preferences for #6*.

"I'm thrilled" tier
  • Trade up for McKercher somehow
"I'm happy" tier
  • Trade up for Duursma
  • Curtin
  • Windsor
  • Leake
"Fair enough" tier
  • O'Sullivan (like him, though wouldn't really get it if Curtin was on the board)
  • Watson
  • Caddy
"Would need some convincing" tier
  • Sanders
Melt tier
  • Trading F1 and 6* for either Watson or Sanders.

Don't do it Hawthorn, save us from ourselves please

If I was Hawthorn I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. They are building a good list but still have numerous holes to plug. Plenty of guys at 6 that would fill a need and our pick could easily be ~pick 10 next year.

Be prepared for when we use pick 6 on a bloke who will sit behind Langdon/Hunter/Billings and Brayshaw for a role on the wing and be competing with Howes/Woey as depth.

In parallel while we use pick 11 on a bloke no one has going before pick 15 and we could’ve used our original pick 14 to snare anyway but instead threw away 2 second rounders

All while passing on the potential next Bont/Fyfe and Curnow

Yep, Watson is an icing player. They'd be better off with Curtin or O'Sullivan (or even Sanders tbh), imo.

Id pick O'Sullivan if I was them I think, suits the timing of their list build, Frosty OOC next year. Instant replacement.

But you said yourself that Brayshaw wasn't a certainty to play only a few posts ago?

Billings is a half-forward, and Langdon and Hunter are both declining.

And I dare say Windsor is a better footballer than two guys taken with late picks who have played four games between them in two years.

Play as an inside mid. With his head issues will potentially be pushed out to a wing/backline.

I would back in Langdon/Hunter giving us more years than a May/Petty/Tomlinson (Curtin) or a Tmac/BBB (Caddy) or Melksham/Smith (Leake) but each to there own.

I know right, Windsor will be made to play back flank in the reserves cause we want to give the two guys we picked in the 30's and 40's priority on the wing over our top 6 pick. Bat shit crazy stuff from Mick.

Hasn't played on a wing since 2021 and won't in 2024, regardless of the knocks. Was much more effective off HB (in the event that he gets moved out of the middle).
