Well looking at the ladder we're in an unfortunate position with Melbourne/Freo's pick. Freo's fixture is that bad they may not win another game outside of WCE if we beat them on the weekend.

That will leave the Dees with a certain top 5 pick and every chance they'd take Mckercher for some outside run. Can only hope they go for a forward half player like Caddy or Duursma if that happens and we don't get too far away from around pick 6.

Nothing would **** me more than if we go on a win streak that destroys our draft hand only to miss finals by a slither again due to our poor patch earlier in the year.

Nobody wants to go back to Tassie and our retention rate is remarkably good for a team thats been bad for so long. Even if he does go back in 4 years we need his attributes now and if in 4 years if we get good compensation for him I'd be fine with him going. Ideally would have won a flag by then if we can sort things out next season.

Yep, exactly that. We already have Cowan at risk when that time comes. To have multiple players invested in as our future at risk of departing simultaneously would be disastrous. I rate Sanders above McKercher, but maintain either would be a big risk.

While any upgrade of midfield pace is of considerable value, I look at the top end of this draft with three names as my biggest watch.

Curtin KPD/interceptor with capability forward of centre and even in the middle. He is an extremely safe kick, with the knack of picking safe and finding safe targets with a very effective left foot. I salivate at Weiters, Kempy and Curtin patrolling our defence with our selection of small/mediums. Probably won’t get to us, but I couldn’t pass him up.

Watson and Caddy are the other two on my radar. I like to see first hand evidence of leadership and smarts and have not seen enough match footage of these two as yet to assess their qualities beyond footy highlights. Caddy looked great for our VFL team, playing dedicated forward. Looked a little less effective trying to play the roving forward type for mine.

Watson wasn’t one of “mine” early, but we could do with some x-factor. He has a combative nature plus footy ability in spades. Thinking there is a decent chance he gets to the bottom half of the top 10, so may be the best option by the time we pick.

Sorry just being truthful, a 22 year old kid earning huge bucks being a minor celebrity in Australia playing footy doesn't want to be around cold rainy Hobart year round where there's bugger all night life and bugger all people. Had 3 mates go down there for sporting opportunities after school and all of them absolutely hated it and I can't blame them after being there myself for a few weeks.

Each to their own though, some players like playing in GWS but they've at least got good weather year round for the most part.
