Not a particularly flashy player but just does everything well. I’d be happy if we found a spot for him.

Yep, looks OK, but if we can’t find room for Binns (and Dutchy), I am not sure about the need.

Thanks Stam, from looking around the other boards seems like a few people saying Sanders is going to be given to them. I think its a decent way of helping them out without being too outlandish

A club manipulating the NGA rules to gain an advantage is pretty outlandish to me. Sanders isn’t even a part of their academy. If it’s deemed North need more help, after they got help last year, then id rather and think there is other ways than giving them access to a top 10 rated kid.

We never even made it to the draft but I already miss him :'(:'(

Zane Duursma going berserk in the 3rd qtr here vs Metro. 3 goals in the 3rd and I believe 2 goal assists. Playing high half forward
Watching it on delay. He has been underwhelming up until now in the championships playing predominantly midfield. “Shifter” did allude to him playing with a corkie earlier, but he has been a different player today, dominant as a forward.

Think I mentioned earlier in the year I wasn't a fan of him through the middle. A bit like Zac Bailey, better as a high half forward than he is actually around centre bounces. My opinion is his best trait is his smarts. Probably not powerful enough or fit enough just yet to play through the middle but up forward where he can pick and choose he excels.

Always worry with those types though because if he can't create the same separation at AFL level he may struggle a bit. If I were picking him for Carlton I'd be having him play the Fritsch role for his first 5 years until he's got the strength, power and speed to consistently impact through the middle.

I have questions with a few of the highly rated kids.
Love Caddy on potential, but he really is very selective (read lazy prick). His ceiling is very high, just not sure on the floor.

I have discounted Watson (again). He is not getting the latitude at the top level. Mid to late first round I might take him, not top 10. Koen Sanchez would be my commitment as a small forward option a little later in proceedings.

I agree with u on Caddy and think the same about Duursma at times. Both fade in and out of games too often and bob up with moments of brilliance but not nearly enough to be sure things.

Watson I actually think will be better at the top level as the predictability and speed of ball movement will suit him. He has absolutely elite speed on the lead and his agility is top top tier. I can't see many defenders in the competition being able to stay with him around contests and on the lead inside 50 after a few pre seasons increasing his power. He certainly won't have as easy of a time defending and pressuring though. He'll need to work on that rather than being a primary target inside 50 to start his career where he's really not expected to chase a lot.

I think this is exactly the type of player we need.
Much less interested in mids, we need killer half forwards.

To be fair I think we need both. Gresham and Duursma in an off season would be a good base to then add some more speed and elite kicking role players around them. I don't think either would shift the needle enough for me, adding an extra elite kick in the forward half all of the sudden brings those players into the game though. Hoping next year Durds has a big breakout and either becomes a genuine goal scorer or elite distributor inside 50.

I'm not enthused about Gresham, especially for a FA contract.

I'm making the assumption that our first pick will be around #8 to #10, similar to last year. It'll be interesting to see what type of player our list management will be targeting, and who would be available around that pick.

Totally agree though, Koen Sanchez has been very impressive in the champs...I could see him going late 1st/early 2nd.

I don’t dislike Gresham, but for what he would cost as a free agent financially, it is a solid pass from me. We will have plenty of cap juggling over the next three or four years and I don’t see him offering any more than, say Cottrell at half the price.

If the cost is not too high, I would consider Ben McKay IF De Koning leaves, but I firmly believe the draft is our friend. Our current form makes us a real flag contender if we can maintain the form and earn a spot in the top eight. Grabbing generation next at entry level rates is surely the way forward while having a dip at a top end “piece” or two.

A look at the draft suggests that may be a little high for Sanchez. He is certainly good enough for late first, and only needs one team to get there, but I see thirty odd players who could easily go higher on demand for types.

Only watched some of 1st half, how did Darcy Wilson go today?
Just an ordinary game from him. Ran hard, used the ball well, got plenty of it and set up a few good plays.

Definitely not the ilk of the other players like Reid, Mckercher, Watson etc who really catch the eye for being a class above but he's a very reliable player.

Want Reid at all costs, imagine in your wildest dreams how a midfield group of Walsh, Cripps, Cera, and Reid??

Duursma wouldn't be a bad second banana
Hypothetically, if TDK requests a trade to Sydney, it's not beyond the possibilities.

If we ended up with two top 10 draft picks this year, and were looking to offload our 2024 first round pick because of the Campo twins, we'd have a nice little nest egg to trade to WCE. Fish would just be the icing on the cake.....

Having said all that garbage, I get the feeling WCE will hang on to their pick #1 - unless they can jag a pick at least in the top 4/5 to select Curtin, along with an additional pick in the top dozen or so for another WA product like Tholstrup.

How do we see our forward mix if we were to add Gresham and Duursma end of year?

Hope we can still obtain Duursma after yesterdays performance and our recent strong form, can't see him playing too many games next year though.
Don't need Gresham, spend the cash on retaining Gov, TDK, Dow etc.

2 of them are almost certainly leaving and others should be moved on too due to list imbalances. We are going to need more than just Duursma if we're planning on winning a flag in the next couple of years. Should still be looking at 3-4 kids in this draft even if we continue our run of form.
