Analysis 2023 Draft Watch

Getting Sanders at 8 is wishful thinking not to say a miracle couldn't happen but I haven't won Division 1 either!

If Lyle Lovett can marry Julia Roberts, anything is possible...

I want to play the tier game. This is all my personal view. I must admit I haven’t watched full games but there is a method to the madness.

Tier 1 - Reid, Mckercher, Watson, Walter, Sanders, Curtain
Tier 2 - Read, Caddy, Duursma, O’Sullivan, Rogers
Tier 3 - The rest

Clear top 11. Top 6 should all be picked without any doubt and it would be considered negligent if a club plays with that pick. Then I think the next tier is a little riskier in terms of becoming busts but their ceilings are all elite. I think the rest of the draft are in and around the same pool imo. I still like a few players in that crop and am very interested to see which direction we go. Cleary will be around the top 10 in future draft revisions, Delean is solid as a genuine goal threat, Will Green will be a good ruck if given the time, then you’ve got a few handy types but they don’t exactly inspire. Interesting draft, I reckon it’s a little shallow for talent but there’s a lot of role players after the first 2 tiers.

Anyone seen much of Lance Collard or Koltyn Tholstrup?

Both profiles look good, especially Collards.

Also like Schoenmaker due to the fact he’s the best kick in the draft. We desperately need elite users in the team.

Would much prefer to draft a potential match winner like Collard than to draft for depth which is mostly all we could hope for around those picks. Shai Bolton had more red flags than the French Revolution and he turned out pretty well.

With Tholstrup, I’m very biased towards these sort of players but I’m still worried he’s not explosive enough for the role. Could just as likely be another Begley instead of a Zurhaar.

Schoenmaker was still drinking a lot during the finals which is disappointing. Has an absolutely enormous kick on him, decent all round defender who can find a fair bit of the ball too. Not sure he’s an elite kick, there’s a few more accurate than him but he can sure roost it. We may have shored up our half back future stocks and depth over the last year with Cowan, Cincotta and the two Irish guys. Have heard Freo have shown a fair bit of interest

Collard would be perfect for us if he gets to 22. Boom or bust type but we can afford to take the risk in our position. We have 2 picks after that which we can use on mature players / safer depth options. Apparently, he interviewed really well so wouldn't be surprised if he moves up the board.

If we keep 22, we will have the pick ahead of West Coast too which may look to nab him at their selection.

When talking of Collard, what’s peoples definition of bust?

Doesn’t make it.

Or

Struggles to adapt away from home and requests a trade?

The latter isn’t a bust, we would hopefully get something small back and it becomes a lot smaller risk

The first one. Not as worried about the 2nd one.

We are almost done with trading, assuming we get EH of course :D

We now have two options:
1. Simple go to draft with #22 & #28
2. Aggressive/ Complex trading - let’s take arrow Hot Topic - Free Agency/Trade Period 2023

Option 1:
Happy with two of:
Tholstrup
CEdwards
Collard

Option 2:
Caddy/ Sanders
Collard (if still there)

Late pick for Shaun Mannagh & rookies upgrade

Done - bring on 2024 & our 17th cup! :D

I want us to draft the forgotten man in Ashton Moir - if we are talking boom or bust then let's get serious.
Yeah, one of those who could turn out a steal, after sliding. All the skills, dual sided and had a freakish underage season. Comparatively underwhelming after reportedly carrying injuries through the season(off top of head hip or groin was quoted -ie core). The question is how much was injury, or was there a dip in intent or application? Was still vice captain of his state.

If I was told preseason he would be available in the twenties, I would have laughed before committing daylight robbery. Which is the real Ashton Moir?

The 2nd point, moreso adapting to the structures of a club environment

Ok - we’ve got EH trading done!

Now go to the draft and get some exciting players - Austin & Co :D

What do people think about Windsor? I’ve seen some footage and he glides on the deck. Would wonder if he could be repurposed as a lead up HHF. Looks like a natural lead up forward and he does like a tackle.

Like him alot, rate him in the 12-16 range
