North in the box seat although they would likely have to pay overs, and probably involve a 3rd club.

Maybe something like North's pick 15 and future 1st to Melbourne for 6 and future 2nd. Picks 3 and 6 to WCE for picks 1 and 37.

North then have pick 1 and 2, WCE have pick 3 and 6, Melbourne drop from 6 to 15 but get pick 1 or 2 in the 2024 ND.

Cats no doubt could be a player though with pick 8 if the Demons weren't keen to trade.
I can just as easily see Hawks swooping on Reid by obtaining Cats pick 8.
Can't see Roos/Demons/ Hawks trading with each other, if Demons traded pick 6 to either Roos or Hawks they are officially out of the Reid race and handing him over.

So what gets you Cats pick 8?
Late 1st rounder plus future 1st enough?
2 mid 1st rounders?

Re-watching Allies V WA game

Gothard and Callinan superb as small forwards (at the other end Collard unsighted)
Knowing how his year has gone, would definitely take a Leake (pun intended)

O’Sullivan in next level as a KPD. Curtin similar in his varied roles, did OK on Walter, but better rebounding.
Sanders brilliant, Rogers is under rated in discussions(academy), McKercher decent playing very outside.

Sanchez decent for WA, my Smokey O’Driscoll underwhelming with closer scrutiny. Reece Torrent a smokey.
It’s a special year for Tassie, three that could go in the top 10 but Callinan and Payne are definitely draft worthy.

Highly likely Freo grab him with one of their 60's picks before our third. Replacement for Shultz.
God they’ve stuffed up. Got rid of four good players to accommodate Jackson’s salary and then had to give up two years of first round picks for a second ruck.

It's a weird situation.

In 2020 the proposed trade is

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan for Denver Grainger-Barass + Luke Pedlar + Phoenix Spicer + F1

But in 2021

Jason Horne-Francis for Josh Rachele + Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera + Josh Fahey + F1

I wouldn't do that first, but would the second.

This is not even accounting for Academy picks which dilute 6 & 11 quite significantly

The number 1 player is nearly always a stand out, clear cut player, picks themselves.

Whenever a hypothetical like these pop up, I don’t assume the players picked at 6, 11 or whatever’s proposed, will be the same picked, had another team been selecting.

I’d always assume the players taken within about 5 spots of each pick would be realistic.

So 2020 could be.

Jesus, I just went through 2020 draft, it’s horrendous, the best player by a mile taken at 32

I think many expect Curtin to play as a KPD, I think he plays as a mid

“This is what Melbourne has put forward according to Cal Twomey, picks 6, 11, 42 and a future first-round pick for pick one and West Coast have said no.

Very different times, scenarios & draft depths but it would have been interesting had a club offered us something like this in 05, 06 or 07.....
I agree Thylacine, but I just don’t reckon our Club’s mindset was in the position to think of / take advantage of the draft at that time.

The one which always got me was the Brent Thornton situation in 2006. You’d remember well, I am sure. Hawthorn wanted him. We said we’d only let him go for a first round draft pick. I believe they ended up offering us three second round picks. I have just googled this, and can only come across an offer of two picks. But I do distinctly remember one media report at the time where they came in late with an offer of a third pick.

There were some great players in the second and third rounds of that draft. But I also think we didn’t have much of a clue when it came to drafting at that time, and even less of an idea on player development. So we probably did the right thing holding T-bird.

Yes, I think getting that trade offer from Melbourne in 05, 06, and 07, Is an intriguing idea. But I’m not convinced we would have had the mindset or structures to capitalise.

You can't win if you aren't in the race.

appreciate your thoughtful response and tend to agree - no idea who was wrecking our list back then, possibly hughes - he was more interested in saviours than future planning......

I wouldn't be surprised if someone grabs him with a pick in the late 20s or early 30s given its a weaker draft. If clubs know that there is a lot of interest late in the draft and they want him someone will go early.

If we want him, I suspect we take him with our late 20s pick or move our 3rd pick forward.

Weaker draft yet CT came up with another 15 players to consider outside his form guide top 30 which excluded VFL / state leaguers. Clohesy is also getting some traction apparently.

Oh you’re in the dungeon… I left the mop etc in the first cupboard on the left , cheers

Clayton Oliver and Patrick Cripps are very similar players with a similar role in their teams. Rather than say "inside beast, wins clearances, poor foot skills, etc etc" twice, you just say that there the same sort of player except for... these key differences.

Our biggest problem as a team imo is that the best 22 players shouldn't play in our 22 at the same side because many of them are similar types. This is particularly an issue in our forward line. A glaring issue and probably the biggest thing we need to fix before next season. How do we make it work?
Gee I wonder why we picked up Fantasia... 🤣🤣

It may work, it may not. But it's a great attempt to fix a glaring issue up forward. Bravo Austin 👍

I would think picking up Orazio as a DFA may be a sign we're confident of trading up for Caddy? Otherwise I'd think we may have used another draft pick for a kid?

Don't think it says to much tbh. We were never going to use that list spot on another kid. Would have been a mature ager or SSP pick.

Our last two moves have been quite exciting - EH & now Orazio!

Let’s see what Austin & co have planned for us via the draft hey!

Bring me some speedy & skilful players :D

Fantasia McKay Fogarty
Collard Curnow Martin

Hollands/Cottrell

Can't imagine we'd get too many games out of all of them but we'd certainly have a bit of Xfactor about our forward line

Collard won't be in consideration I reckon. Picking up Fantasia and Hollands means we've addressed that part of the ground for me.

Reckon we might go a mid and KPD.
