Ashton Moir gives me Troy Menzel vibes with the way that he plays.

And if North hadn't agreed (which they wouldn't) we keep Fisher, and miss out on E. Hollands as we didn't have a list spot for him ?

The valuation was for about pick 30, they offered us about pick 40 which we declined and both sides worked to get a deal that they thought was about right. We downgraded our first rounder and got a better second rounder as a result.

You're not one of those that worship at the shrine of St. Adrian of Dodoro are you where every trade has to be a major kerfuffle? We've seen how that works out overall.

They offered 4 years for an AFL level, contracted best 15 footballer at North, it was up to them to make it happen.

He was worth a second straight out in this draft.

And if we take what was written by the Age in the aftermath of the trade, it makes it even better. Peter Ryan is a good journo imo, and doesn't make these things up cough cough Jon Ralph cough cough

Why Carlton was content to give up pick 17 in the Fisher trade

"Some Carlton supporters have been wondering why Carlton were happy to give up pick 17 as part of the Zac Fisher deal to get North Melbourne’s picks 21 and 25 in return.

Carlton knew they were likely to get the player they are keen on at either pick 17 or pick 21 (which is still in the first round) in the national draft."

So essentially, we're still likely to get the same player we're keen on, and received an early 2nd round pick as well. It's similar to the Elijah trade of pick 26 for 28, where we lose nothing.

That's pretty shrewd trading by Austin on all accounts.
That just means our target is not as highly valued by opposition clubs, banking on a hidden gem and selecting him early is a Sam Philp trade and how did that work out for us?
The word "likely" to be there is no guarantee he will be. We will never know the truth as all recruiting teams have the same spin, we got the players we wanted or we couldn't believe he slipped through to us....

How does any pick outside of 10 really go anyway??

These are still Covid affected picks and I for one will not be expecting a ‘hidden gem’ at our pick, not even at 10 to be honest…

In your mind possibly. Others would disagree. Reckon we did well for a player surplus to requirements who couldn't get in our starting 22 or as an emergency in our 3 finals.

Is he a KPD though? 194 cm (about Marchbank height) and has been playing at half back for club and played wing in the championships.

He's not really a KPD or even a 3rd tall which is why he probably makes it to the 20s rather then being top 10.

To make the most of his ability he really needs to improve his intercepting and 1 on 1 work to become at least a 3rd tall. Then his disposal becomes a real weapon. Right now he plays like a massive halfback flanker. Not sure how that role translates at afl level

Hope that its not Matty Watsonesque.

Just had word through the grapevine that North and St Kilda are doing a lot of homework on Charlie Edwards. He might not fall to our pick I’m afraid.

I wonder if Schoenmaker would free up Kemp to try a shift into the midfield/fwd?

Schoenmaker certainly a more damaging ball user. Both have some work to do on their defensive games but Kemp the superior ground level player and interceptor

COLLARD A CLONE OF BOBBY

….
Collard is tied to West Coast’s Next Generation Academy, but the Eagles will be unable to match a bid on him unless he slides past pick 40.

The Subiaco product has been linked to clubs with first-round picks including North Melbourne, St Kilda and Collingwood.

Carlton (picks 22 and 28) and Fremantle (pick 34) are also believed to have shown interest, but their first selections could come too late.

Starting to like ARIE Schoenmaker a lot, nice booming kick , reads the play well good rebounder decision making is good and is a great kick. And finds the football. Great height. Could turn into something special . Could be pick up between pick 25-40.
And I still like George stevens captained the afl academy
Strengths , character , consistency, contested game , strength, tackling and work rate. Huge kid at 18 played some really strong games for Geelong in the vfl against Collingwood VFL’S side
189cm 101kg. Big bodied mid that voss would love to work with
Cripps replacement long-term

Any idea which player that might be

Would be stunned if we take Stevens.

Midfield is already so slow

To play next season - yes 100% right, but to be primed in 2-3yrs (which it will take to be an impactful mid) not a bad plan.
Love Crippa but IMO I think he will be hampered by injury in 2-3yrs & dramatically drop off (hope not but he’s shouldered a heavy work load his entire career). Hew is B grade - does the job atm but don’t think anyone will be unhappy if there’s a talented kid to take the spot.
Takes time to develop a top level inside mid, one that is also a leader with footy smarts would be kinda handy to have on board asap.
Our trajectory is high, we won’t have a top 10 pick for a while (due to ladder position). Need to have talent coming thru.
If Stevens is undervalued due to acl it could be a big win.

No idea GT, I wish I did.

At the end of the day we all have our preferences and wish lists of which players we'd like at those picks - but the reality is that we're not picking players that we like, we're picking players that Voss likes.

My personal preferences though for those who should be available at our picks are: Koen Sanchez as a small forward/mid, Luamon Lual as the running half back, Archer Reid as the hybrid ruck/forward, and Logan Morris as the 3rd marking forward (and very underrated imo). Ashton Moir would be a smoky as well.

I will hurt someone!!

I rate him comfortably as a 1st rounder, so I guess it is unlikely he slides to us

I'll be happy with those lads
