Analysis 2023 Draft Watch

Assuming we'll be trading in our future 1st rounder into this year's draft, I'd love to take Tholstrup or Collard as a mid-forward Cunners/Fog upgrade, as well as Windsor or DeMattia as a more balance Dow option.

Darcy Wilson is one who can fit both of those categories, his versatility and x-factor really appeals to me.
Where's this coming from?

Just saw the Coates league grand final was last week which took me by surprise, it was interesting to read about it and not recognise a lot of the names from the two sides.

Last year Sandringham had 3 top 8 kids, this year I’m not sure which are their stars.

I was wondering where their captain Brown sits, he won best on with 3.2 from 18 touches, forget the kid from Eastern I’ve never heard of who had 37 and a goal.

I would have expected these two teams to have had a few more top kids.

Otherwise our 1st rounder will be eaten up by Ben Camporeale and we won't get the 20% discount from matching a bid for him, unless of course he's projected to be a top 10 pick.
We don't know where the Camporeale twins will land in the draft, it could go either way.

Ben very good. Lucas Ok. I wouldn’t give up next years first this year in any trade/draft move though - Tom Gross might be the bullocking power forward/mid we need…

Bobby Hill confirmed my interest in Collard today. Speed like that can make a very ordinary footballer dangerous.

If the club backs themselves to deal with Collard's issues please find a way to get him.

Leave next year's first where it is, thanks.

It won't be enough to get us into the top 5 or 6, which is where we'd need to be to get the elite forward or defender we want.

Campo twins are still an unknown quantity. Could have electric years and be worth top 10 picks, could be good-to-average and be worth late firsts or early seconds...hell, could have an off year or get injured and slip to the third round.

One thing is certain, though, we can trade again next year. If we find our draft pick positioned before they're going to attract bids, we're fine. If not, we can trade up the board and get ahead of the bid anyway.

And if by some miracle one of the Campo's shows themselves to be an out and out star, warranting a top 5 bid - we're gonna need the points.

No need to commit future resources to a crapshoot of a draft this year.

who designed our draft system anyway? it just seems so incredibly complex as they've added on bits and pieces all over the place to manage every possible permutation of a deal.........

I mostly agree with what you’re saying, but the draft is a crapshoot every year. If we feel our future first can be used on the right player this year, and we have reason to believe that player will be a fair trade off on the value we lose next season, then pull the trigger.

We haven’t taken a heap of young talent over the last few years. We’ve taken enough, but with two locked in next season I don’t see an issue in bringing some assets forward, for the right type.

Don’t mind the look of collard. Need some speed and he looks to provide it, seems clever too

Rumours of gigantic off-field baggage.

Sounds quite high-risk, high-reward. I think you could only take a punt on him late/rookie.
