Analysis 2023 Draft Watch

One of my draft watch Aiden O’Driscoll ran the fastest 20m at the combine 2.87. Really like him as a small forward option, played just as much wing, so a level of versatility. Brother of Freo’s Nathan.

Not sure where our picks will fall, with talk of splitting our first, or where our priorities really lie, but have him in the mix.

Will he be available at our pick?

Feel like there’s a lot of players with electric pace around our pick

If we keep our current 1st, he should be. Has a nice mix from being able to play forward and roll through the middle

Agree Murphy looks good, & Edwards looks on the rise.
Mixed reviews on Darcy Wilson, what are your thoughts?

Think Wilson is all class, composed, goal kicking mid and a threat forward

Expect he will be gone by our pick

Any chance we should trade up a few spots with North in the Fisher deal to give ourselves a better chance of a Wilson or Murphy & take a lower selection than the suggested pick approx 39?

I guess that could be a strategy, but North still in discussions with WC over pick one (think that deal is likely to happen), and unsure if both would last to that pick of North

Said it before in prior years but not a fan of spending first round picks on key defenders. Way too much development left and generally far easier to get good (adequate) ones in the later rounds or through state leagues.

Even ones that look sure things and highly talented can still struggle wildly, DGB, McAsey couple of recent examples.

Obviously exceptions to this but not sure if Murphy seems so good as to be one.

Don't understand why North would not just pick Curtin with pick 2 & use the extra picks rather than giving up multiple picks for one player eg Reid they need to build quality in their overall list

Questions over his professionalism/attitude and whether he's willing to move from WA.

Easily a top 15 talent imo
Having little idea about the rest of the draft id like us to take a bit of a risk. I know that wouldn’t be a popular opinion tho but he seems the goods. We have a few wa boys at the club who might be useful for that too

If you take those risks it's normally later in the draft, not 1st round

If he wasn't willing to move from WA, he wouldn't have got on the plane to the Combine. Which he starred at btw. Obviously happy to do all the interviews as well....and you know, grow as a young man.

If he wanted to just play in WA or nowhere, he would have stayed home and let WC pick him up with a matched pick after 40.

Look im a big fan of Collard and have been for months. I'm just going off what I've heard from a relative who's a recruiter over in WA and hearsay on Bigfooty/Cal Twomey etc.

Personally would consider trading up for him if he fell past 25 using future picks. I think he's the most talented small in the draft outside of Watson.
