Analysis 2023 Draft Watch

Of note is that this year seemingly has a very strong top 10, and then after that the next 20 or so are very even, or at least will have very different ratings across the board, so their write-ups probably sound at a similar level.

Have seen it mentioned a lot. But how do you distinguish between.

A) A very strong top 10 and then it drops off considerably.

And

B) A very strong top 10 the next 20 are even?

Both have been said, but is option A just being a bit lazy? I’ve always believed there is good value in every draft.

Oh, there's always value in every draft if you pick right.

I gather that the top 10 is rated with more certainty and more consensus with recruiters. Obviously that's not a guarantee of quality. Then it seems, the next 20 or so are rated very differently by recruiters. Some players will be highly rated by some, and not at all by others.

Hopefully it means clubs will be willing to move about their picks on draft night.

One sided, maybe not the most professional.
Yeah. Also, a very low production player. Doesn't get much ball at all.

I wonder if he's related to Clayton Collard? He looked unreal in the Gibbs draft back in 06 but also fell down the order due to professionalism. Ended up getting taken by Freo late in the draft and never played a game.

What’s wrong with 2017 draft? Heapsnof good players int the 1st and 2nd round, gold in the second round especially. Liam Baker in the rookie draft, what a pick

The draft was rated 'not great' at the time and clubs were willing to pick mature agers in the second round (Tim Kelly the most successful) - that being said, arguably better in hindsight than 2016

2017 cops flak for being crap but look at the first two rounds, real good players everywhere.

2016 is worse but still lots of good picks in the second round, geez just saw who was taken the pick after Kerr, ouch, Luke Ryan by the Dockers.

Watson off to the Dogs and now with Schultz gone Freo would be mad not to be into Collard.

Please Leake find a way to pick 16 u sexy bastard

Collard (from Subiaco FC in the WAFL) is a WCE NGA player.
Not impossible but we'd have to pay overs through bidding.

If we pick him before 40 we'd get him like any other draftee. Only after 40 does the NGA bid system come into play now.

Got changed after the Ugle Hagan fiasco

Assuming Reid, Curtin, McKercher, Watson, Duursma & who else is gone?
I’d do the trade for those 5 plus O’Sullivan and Caddy. Problem is if North get a compo pick at 3 then all of those 7 could be gone. Wilson seems a good type but two first round picks for him? Too much for me.

Pick would end up around 10 with Mckay compo and Academy bids which would likely leave something like Caddy, O'Sullivan, Sanders, Wilson and Murphy
Yeah, Academy picks are not included in the eligible field.
Caddy & O’Sullivan then before pick#7 is in play with the other 5 mentioned.

Im a huge Wilson fan and even I wouldn't want to pay that for him in the position we're in. Would prefer Leake and Collard using 2 picks rather than just the one. O'Sullivan or Watson I'd say its worthwhile but no guarantees either make it that far.

Not sure why this board loves Collard so much, plenty of flags on him. He's one sided, super shy and potential family separation issues, just not sure im rolling that dice.
From what I saw in the Championships, I really liked the look of Phoenix Gothard as a creative small forward. Definitely got some tricks, although my personal preference would be Sanchez over either of them.
