Analysis 2023 Draft Watch

After many years in the drafting wilderness, it’s great to see a number of highly rated Tasmanian prospects this year.

Be interesting to see what happens in a couple of years. You'd think the AFL would be keen to see some high profile Tasmanians lead the new team.

You might need to be more specific with the name Hollands going forward. Assuming Ollie at this stage?

Back in the day would have backed myself to keep up with that bunch, but not for 40 years or so…

Nope both, check the EH thread

I’ve lost track
Are they building the stadium?
Is the team going ahead?
How long do you have? The Hobart City Council for the first time sounded positive about the proposal. But it is at the Regatta Grounds, not Macquarie Point (Hobart people will know the two are extremely close together). The problem is the AFL decision is specific re Macquarie Point. Would the AFL relent?

Those based in Tassie will have a stronger understanding on what is going on. I am just viewing from afar.

marcus davies?

What an incredible story....there should be a statue of George Challis at the front entrance of Princes Park.

Leigh McConnon? Greg Towns? Tony Pickett?
Nope. Played in four flags, career was nearly over before it started when a fan gave him a lift home from training and hit a tree in Royal Parade, stormed out and announced he was quitting after arriving late for a reserves game and being told he wouldn't be playing. Also was known to catch a tram to take a shortcut back on a training run.

Match committee wouldn't select him to play his 250th game despite him being the coach so he remained stranded on 249 games.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Carlton royalty Peter "Percy " Jones.

“This is what Melbourne has put forward according to Cal Twomey, picks 6, 11, 42 and a future first-round pick for pick one and West Coast have said no.

Very different times, scenarios & draft depths but it would have been interesting had a club offered us something like this in 05, 06 or 07.....

So both North and Demons have offered a package of picks to WC for pick 1, but both deals knocked back

Demons offered 6, 11, 42, F1

North offered 2, 2 late 1sts, for 1, 23. Think North will come with another offer
If I was West Coast, I would want a top 5 pick for Curtin and a top 10 pick for another top end talent. Would not swap Reid for Curtin and a speculatory pick after 12.

Demons 6 and 11 ok but runs the risk of not getting Curtin at 6 and then at 11 you get what's left of the best dozen players.

If North or Hawthorn can get pick 8 from the Cats I believe they will get Reid. Cats are going to get overs for 8 and they know it....

North in the box seat although they would likely have to pay overs, and probably involve a 3rd club.

Maybe something like North's pick 15 and future 1st to Melbourne for 6 and future 2nd. Picks 3 and 6 to WCE for picks 1 and 37.

North then have pick 1 and 2, WCE have pick 3 and 6, Melbourne drop from 6 to 15 but get pick 1 or 2 in the 2024 ND.

Cats no doubt could be a player though with pick 8 if the Demons weren't keen to trade.

It's a weird situation.

In 2020 the proposed trade is

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan for Denver Grainger-Barass + Luke Pedlar + Phoenix Spicer + F1

But in 2021

Jason Horne-Francis for Josh Rachele + Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera + Josh Fahey + F1

I wouldn't do that first, but would the second.

This is not even accounting for Academy picks which dilute 6 & 11 quite significantly

Re-watching Allies V WA game

Gothard and Callinan superb as small forwards (at the other end Collard unsighted)
Knowing how his year has gone, would definitely take a Leake (pun intended)

O’Sullivan in next level as a KPD. Curtin similar in his varied roles, did OK on Walter, but better rebounding.
Sanders brilliant, Rogers is under rated in discussions(academy), McKercher decent playing very outside.

Sanchez decent for WA, my Smokey O’Driscoll underwhelming with closer scrutiny. Reece Torrent a smokey.
