Analysis 2023 Draft Watch

Adam Saad is 30 next year.

Always prudent to prepare for the future imo.

We have Cincotta, Saad, Boyd, Doc and Williams who can play there. Plus other options like Binns.

We have Akuei as a developing tall who is going to struggle to make it on what we have seen and an out of favour Young.

For me I'd have taken a young KPP to develop.

Not to mention Cowan and next year Camporeale twins.

Wilson was one of handful of players i liked before the draft within our pick range, quick attacking defender…

Simpson a little disappointing he was the one still on the board that i rated highest…

C.Edwards Gothard Dawson gone first night…
Simpson Hastie Wilson…

If this is the guy that Austin was locked in on you've simply got to back his judgement. Even though it looks like a reach at face value.
This.
Austin has done a good job to date and this is the first surprise he’s pulled I can think of.
Doesn’t strike me as a massive risk taker so there must be something he sees others haven’t.

Also, Austin is part of a team, it’s unlikely he got here on his own.

Just love the arm chair experts! Neither pick was hesitated, they obviously picked the blokes they identified a long way out. Moir will eventually replace the Martins/Silvani's on the list; Wilson will build into the Saad/Docherty's . You blokes apparantly think there are massive gaps on the list, don't see it myself. Bring on the Campo's next year and we have the next generation already at hand. This represents a complete turn around on our draft thinking, we're planning for the future before our eyes. Just have a look at how 9thmond are playing their hand....

Wilson would of gone undrafted.

Runs fast but cant kick. These types never make it at AFL and typical head scratcher selection. 🤦‍♀️
Clearly the hilights are only going to show the good. However from that litte footage his kicking action looks good and the results are spot on.

You sure that you've got the right bloke?

I would have taken Schoenmaker myself but I am going to trust Austin and Agesta's judgement, they have a very solid track record at our club so far.

Austin has a brilliant strike rate with these types of picks particularly smalls. I trust him.

He has some elite traits and will be given time to develop his game under some of the best back flankers in the comp. I wouldn’t have picked Billy myself but I’m sitting on the couch at home.

I think Wilson defends better than Hastie though.
Lock down defender with pace & skill is a position of need….

Saad having to play on Charlie Cameron in PF really took away our ability to run & attack from half back.

If kids are terrible by foot entering a draft you aint changing that now.

You cannot be drafting kids that early that are ball butchers in todays game and look at Dow who we took inside the top 10. He also has the same question marks disposal wise.

VFL player at best. 🤦‍♀️
Not terrible, inconsistent, see one Sam Docherty on an ordinary day. Very eye catching in early championships games. Wrote off due to being a HBF first and not “silk”. Having said that I was looking for disposal verging on elite. The only HBF in that category in this draft in that category was Hardeman.

Remember watching and thinking “I wonder how you would go in the midfield?” Late in season went inside and performed well, didn’t see much of that footage so only going on reports.

Austin and co. have done well of late, I have seen enough to trust them.

I wanted a running defender or mid. I’m happy with the type he is

I don’t think I’ve seen a tougher draft to rank players. I’m really struggling

Wilson looks nice. No issue with selection but many had him late or rookie

Simpson to me looks a top 20 pick

My only question is why we didn’t try for more picks?
Simpson was a better choice, could have played 2nd half next season.

We don't need more half back flankers till 2025-26.

Jordan Boyd was a pretty left field selection who has surpassed expectations.

Wilson kind of reminds me of Zac Williams in how he goes about it. I wish him all the best.
