Well they've gotta do something now that saints fan gill is outta the top job. He was funneling millions there for years.

They do have a lot of rich supporters, including a lot of wealthy Jewish fans they could tap into. My wife's ceo is a saints fan and one of the top 50 richest people in Australia.

$15M hop in underlying revenue (over 20%). I know it is the premier but I suspect we are going to see big jumps in revenue and profits across the board this year given the attendance increases, gather round and presumably AFL distributions

Oh good I like seeing these. 81 million revenue is massive, I dunno if any club in Australia would even come close to that (other than ones with pokies dens). Something surprising though, it's arguably the biggest most successful year a sporting club could even imagine in Australian sport and whilst the revenue is huge, the profit of 6 mill seems smaller than I expected for such a bumper year.

I suppose if anything it really shows how much it costs to run a football club, especially now with the women's team that would run at a big loss for clubs.

A nice $2.2m profit there for the smallish not-for-profit MFC, which doesn't even include the $500k that goes directly to the club for winning the McClelland Trophy as a result of performance across the men's and women's AFL teams!

Covid and the introduction of entry fees to games in 2021 had a significant decline impact on crowd. However there is a lot less fluctuation in crowd sizes since then.

There are quite a few factors that make individual teams crowds fluctuate each year. Including playing games out of their home town, or one off spectacles such as the first showdown, or first football game at Optus Stadium, or a double header with the AFLM, which I’ve excluded in this second graph series.

But overall, in the last season, there is a general upwards movement in attendances for any team more than 2 seasons old (except for GWS and Eagles).

Key points looking through the spin:

For a club like Essendon, a poor result. Operating result -$580K impacted by membership and fundraising donations declines YoY -$2.4M (Operating result LY +$1.5M).

Cash surplus (operating result minus depreciation on buildings etc) +$3.52M, so cash result in line with prior year and solid.

Revenue +5.5% (~$73M)
Expenses +8.7%
Net assets ~$50.7M
Cash Reserves ~$6.0M

Summary. For Essendon, a poor headline result but a solid cash surplus. Club financially strong but needs to restore growth in some of its operating revenue, hopefully on the back of on field improvement 😂🤔🙏🙏🙏🙏
