Can’t complain with that draw. Only play two of last years top 8 twice, and syd in melb (finally). No excuses

Why do we get sundays and not Friday/Thursday nights

I'd like to share this whine with you.

I despise Sunday football. Congrats to those who couldn't care less, but end-of-weekend footy (especially late arvo) is something I tend to avoid.

More Fri/Sat night would be grand, not least to showcase a team which played exciting football in 2022.

I wonder if any other interstate teams will be at AO 3 times in the season, obviously the Crows and Port will as it,s there home base,I think we would have better off if we had played 1 of the SA teams in the magic rd if not 1 of our interstate rivals.

And why do we play the Lions at home at Mar I do not think they have done Collingwood any favours apart from the game against Swans and that only after waiting 10 yrs for it to happen.

The caveat here is that there are always surprises. For example, the five clubs drawn to play Collingwood twice in 2022 — Adelaide, Gold Coast, Essendon and Carlton — were probably licking their lips 12 months ago. But they combined for 0-10 as the Pies soared.

But an encore Collingwood fairytale suddenly looks less likely. The Magpies meet Geelong and Brisbane twice, as well as a rising Port Adelaide and Essendon, knowing anything can happen on Anzac Day. That’s as tough as a $2 steak.

Collingwood Magpies

Thursday Nights: 1
Friday Nights: 2
Marquee Match-Ups: Massive rd 1 clash with Geelong, rd 3 showdown with Richmond; Anzac Day clash with Essendon in round 6m and King’s Birthday clash with Melbourne in rd 13 as part of the Big Freeze.
Who You Play Twice: Geelong, Port Adelaide, Brisbane Lions, Essendon, Adelaide, Carlton
When Is Your Bye?: round 14
Defining Stretch: The Magpies were always going to cop a hit with next year’s fixture, given their fairytale run this year. It’s a brutal first month that includes Geelong, Richmond and Brisbane (away) as well as likely improvers Port Adelaide. The double-up games don’t look easy with Adelaide looking the most appetising. It’s a testing draw, but the Pies are up to it.
Expected Finish: 3rd-8th

We’ve got a relatively easy draw for a team finishing 3rd.

We play 1st, 4th, 9th, 11th, 14th & 15th twice. Given we had to play 2 of the top 6 as a minimum and have managed to get 2 of the bottom 6 when we might have got 0, I’m not sure we can ask for much more in that respect.

Our interstate games are to 4 teams who didn’t make the finals plus Brisbane.

Yes, we’ve got the usual Docklands home games but those are seemingly mandatory.

We’ve done pretty well.

Finally play Sydney at the MCG. First time since 2013.

We have the standard two home games at Marvel against North Melbourne and Brisbane Lions and our one away Marvel game against the Western Bulldogs.

We have a lot of Sunday games in the first 15 rounds. 7 out of 14 games are scheduled for a Sunday.
