Playing Brisbane in rnd 1 last yr had a massive effect on the start of our season.
Spot on. We were expected to lose, planned and played accordingly and duly did so. Then it was written off as inevitable and the stage was set for the season.

Good coaches would never accept losing, even if the odds seemed insurmountable. It's pretty simple - if you don't think you can win then you won't.

You won't get any arguments from me I would of sacked Hinkley the day after the 2021 preliminary final.

It was disappointing to lose that game in Brisbane, but it paled into insignificance, compared to the crap we dished up the following week against Hawthorn.

Everyone in the coaches box should have been sacked the next day after that disgrace. Mind you, no one in the coaches box should have survived the prelim

Lel. We clearly shat the bed with our pre-season, going 0-5 showed that. I don’t think playing home or away Rd 1 would have mattered.
The worst part is that the club think they were unlucky more than anything this year.

Good clubs make their own luck and don't treat football like it's the ****ing dogs

Until the injuries started to mount, we were by far the better team against Brisbane in Rd 1. If we are playing Away in our season opener, I wouldn’t mind getting our Perth trip over & done with early.

Injuries aren't an excuse, every team gets them and every team gets them to first 22 players.

Playing at home in the final round is a big bonus, but never having a home opener, and also the negative momentum that can build from a round 1 loss, are huge reasons for not letting that continue.
That would be Ken's take

Jack Cahill would say that they can't beat us so winning round 1 away will set us up for a winning season

My take on injuries is every team gets them some more some less.
It’s not how many are injured it’s the quality of the players out.
Teams can have 6 players out injured but 5 of them would be lucky to get a start anyway or are also players at best.
How much depth you have in your list is a bigger problem as highlighted last year with us.
We lose a couple and we’re up Ship Creek.

Lol, which one, the Ebert tribute or the game down in Tassie where he was smiling after losing?
2014 Prelim. The peak of the Hinkley era really.

The Ebert tribute game, Dawson Showdown and the Melbourne goalless 3 quarters were definitely the 3 worst games under Hinkley to follow on from the prelim belting.

The Ebert game especially was diabolical in its poor coaching.

I’d give the Showdown loss fairy in the players face.
So many opportunities to put the game out of reach but couldn’t hit the side of a barn with a handful of Wheat.
Marshall,Fredrick,Mayes and Boak all missed gettable shots in the last.
And the Dawson free was another Shuey.
Ken’s not much but you can’t blame him for everything.

Why were the crows in the game in the first place, misses are another thing when it's close.

How did we let the crows pin us down for 3 quarters to stay in the match, it should have been over at half time if we came with a game plan. How did we match up so badly on a merry band of sanfl forwards.

Everything is Ken's fault (and Koch)
