Shit SANFL fixture from an AFL perspective.

5 SANFL games played before AFL games. This means at least 1 emergency misses each game.

2 SANFL games played after AFL games, but the break is insufficient for selection changes. In fact, in the period between June 3 and June 15, it's very hard to see any SANFL players being pickable at AFL level, as they will be set for 5 day breaks. So the AFL side we enter June 3 game with nearly needs to play the next 3 unchanged.

We have 3 SANFL games which sit well with our players having a chance to all play and have enough recovery time to push for AFL selection.

The AFL with their usual imagination and eye to save a dollar will probably put both teams up at the same place (Crown most likely) - Ramsgate II possibilities...

Similar also happens in Round 3 where we play Sturt on April 23 and the AFL play again on April 28th, meaning a 5 day break for SANFL to AFL promotion.

And again in Round 6 when we play South on the 14th May and then the AFL team play on the 19th of May

I didn’t miss your point- it’s just not a very good one.

5 or 6 day breaks for an SANFL player to go up to AFL don’t stop us playing him for 3 quarters in the SANFL. Let’s say a mid gets injured in the AFL. The SANFL play the next day. Let all the mids know a spot in the As is on the line and make your choice at 3Q time. Sure if Lycett is injured you might rest Hayes in that circumstance but you’d do that if it was a 5 day break or a 10 day break.

We want the SANFL playing after the AFL so we don’t have to hold players back from the twos only to find they miss out on both games. I am pretty sure we made this request of the SANFL because it makes us more competitive in the SANFL- which is good for the club overall. If it comes at a cost of losing Josh Sinn in the SANFL for a quarter because he is earmarked for the AFL in 5 days, that is an insignificant cost.

It is much better than having to take guys out of the SANFL altogether because the AFL play the next day and he/they are travelling emergencies.

There's 3 games scheduled for Marvel that week (Ess v WB, St K v NM, Car v WC), so there would need to be one on Friday, one on Saturday, one on Sunday. Meaning neither our game, nor the Brisbane v Geelong game at the Gabba, either of which would likely be better games than any Marvel option, get shafted.

The whole "floating fixture" is a joke, like everything the AFL does.

I thought there's a limit to the amount of Thursday nights the players association has agreed to and they were already at that quota for the year once they play the scheduled ones. Could be wrong though.

Port play on Saturday in all rounds except round 22 (Sunday twilight at home against Giants) and round 23 (Sunday twilight in Perth against Freo).

Time for the round 24 game against Richmond at home will be announced at a later date.

The AFL are showcasing Port in the second half of the season. A timely reminder that our run home from about round 14 onwards is pretty heccas - over half i'd expect us to lose. The wider community will watch Hinkleys demise as we fall into the finals and finish 6th only to be pantsed by a spirited Adelaide side who'll finish 7th.
