Why were the crows in the game in the first place, misses are another thing when it's close.

How did we let the crows pin us down for 3 quarters to stay in the match, it should have been over at half time if we came with a game plan. How did we match up so badly on a merry band of sanfl forwards.
11-12 to 10-5 at 3 qtr time says it all.
We should have been miles in front but bad kicking is bad football.
Two players from that night who missed last qtr goals are now delisted.
That loss was on the players

I’d give the Showdown loss fairy in the players face.
So many opportunities to put the game out of reach but couldn’t hit the side of a barn with a handful of Wheat.
Marshall,Fredrick,Mayes and Boak all missed gettable shots in the last.
And the Dawson free was another Shuey.
Ken’s not much but you can’t blame him for everything.

I sort of agree but from memory the Crows were absolute trash to start the year as well so being in the position to lose was bad enough.

They didn’t have a great start but not as bad as I thought.
Lost to Freo round 1 by a point then 7 goals to Collingwood then beat us then 4 point loss to Essendon then beat Richmond.
Not to bad for a crap team, we should have beaten them hands down like we did in the last game of the season.
I just think this team has got away with a lot of unforgettable performances with all the blame going on Hinkley.
We have improved our list just with the players we have traded in and delisted.
I’m expecting an improvement this year because of that even with Ken’s poor coaching.
Strange thing is if we do improve this year posters on this forum will 100% say it’s because of the players not Ken but if we don’t improve or go backwards it’s all Ken’s fault with zero blame on the playing group.
Ken should have been arsed out long ago and hopefully this is his last year but don’t expect with him gone magically our performances will improve.

I blamed the players 100% for the Ebert tribute game, they won enough of the ball, dominated possession stats, but didn't have the brains to use it properly, couldn't handle the expectations and build up to the game.

And the players were to blame for the stupid things they did next week in the last quarter against the crows, missing goals, not using team mates, the Houston soccer, the Mayes tackle etc.

Trouble is the main 16 to 18 players knew they could get away with it with minimal consequences. Hinkley has his favourites, the gold passes, the dog racing syndicate members etc. Hinkley isn't hard enough on them and they are mentally fragile when it counts.

That's why I disagree with a lot of posters who say we have a team good enough to win the flag. We are not skilled enough and not mentally tough.

As Clarko said when the Hawks let the Pies pinch the 2011 PF by 3 pts, we just weren't aren't hard enough and tough enough for long enough.

From his 2011 PF presser sums up the players and Hinkley over the last 5 years.

"I don't want to hear about any pride or bad luck and all that sort of rubbish that's going to come our way," Clarkson said. (and I don't want to hear that someone has to lose a close game)

"We should have won a game of footy and we miss out on a grand final because we just weren't hard enough and tough enough for long enough.

"Bottom line, you need to do it for four quarters in finals footy and we didn't.

"We paid the price and it's a bloody hard price to pay when you've got a side on the ropes and you just don't deliver the final fatal blow.

"We've got to learn the hard way and that's watch two good sides having a crack at each other for the title, knowing full well that we could quite easily have been participating ourselves.

"We just wasted opportunities. We only had 11 marks for the whole last quarter. Ultimately it cost us the game.

"Whether it's set shots, a couple of umpiring decisions, you put them all in the mix, who knows?

"The bottom line is we weren't tough enough, hard enough for long enough. We learnt a pretty fatal lesson as a result of it."

And then after that, they lost a grand final, followed by a hat trick of flags. Meanwhile at Port, we lose back to back prelims, and then apparently we lost the fire in the belly. I still find that extraordinary!!!

Shocked the AFL hasn't leaked some early fixtures by now to fill the quiet period!
supposedly they are going announce the schedule for All in Adelaide Round first and then the rest a few days later.

In R23 this year both Freo and WCE had away matches by some quirk of the fixtures, and it looks like happening again in R1 of 2023 - the quirk this time is a Pommy ginger.

I couldn't get around the Herald Sun paywall for this one, but it looks like Ed Sheeran has booked Optus Stadium that week.

The AFL Magic Round and Ed Sheeran’s Australia tour could be set for a round 1 collision with Optus Stadium likely to be unavailable for the season start.

In a 23 round fixture where the AFL has said because of travel fairness, no WA team will travel 2 weeks in a row and either team will get 2 games in a row in WA when the derbies are on, there will be no game in WA either during the bye rounds or Rd 23.

Guess the WA government has told the AFL we have gifted your two clubs a $1.6bil stadium, so give the venue managers a say when they want no AFL played one weekend.
