Fine with that, is just a regular away game for us. Also good to not play in the middle of nowhere in the Barossa or Mount Barker.

Considering it’s an extra round thrown in, it would be a bit unfair if we had to play them at their own ground. Happy to play them in their home state, but it should be at a different venue.

Don't particularly care about missing out on Good Friday, as long as North is in the fixture it will draw terribly. Chance they could do the Thursday night in Brisbane against us or is that now reserved for Collingwood too?

Lol get ****ed. They cut us after we pull the majority of the crowd in 2017, give it back during Covid, then give us another shot when North are the worst team in the league.

And that’s without even having it as a home game. Now that Carlton are involved you watch them start to rotate the home games every year like every other marquee game, an opportunity we were never given.

Step 1 - remove us 2023
Step 2 - remove Norf 2024
Step 3 - 2025 onwards Carlton v Collingwood play Good Friday for the rest of time
Then they'll move it to the MCG and five years later it'll be billed as the traditional Good Friday clash that these mighty clubs built

Whilst it is nice to have a blockbuster, this one never will be from a revenue sense as rightly profits go to the RCH.

Other than being something to do on Good Friday I will not miss it.

I just hope we get a better spread of home games at time slots and against teams that provide good attendance and atmosphere.

We can hardly complain when we are the ones purposely turning away up to 30,000 of our fans by playing 2 games in Ballarat.

It would be ordinary if the special round in Adelaide sees us as one of two teams playing a genuine away game. Given neither Gold Coast or GWS would be travelling in numbers surely they would be a better fit as away teams to the Adelaide clubs

Nothing surprising the afl were always going to look for an excuse to give it to a big four club. It’s interesting the smugness of Norf fans who didn’t turn up to the games and who’s side was uncompetitive, do they really think they’ll keep it going forward if they’re continually belted?

The club had 11 games this year not on a Saturday or Sunday, I can’t see a lack of exposure being an issue anytime soon.

It is a crap timeslot. The Thursday or Sunday would be better imho.
Yeah, I wouldn’t describe it as a marquee time slot. It’s basically like a Saturday arvo game when most of Melbourne are getting out of the city for the last long weekend with nice weather. Better spots are the Thursday night that Brisbane and Collingwood seem to have locked in and the Hawks Vs Geelong locked in for the Monday

This is exactly the problem though. ‘Good Friday Eve’ is suddenly a thing because Collingwood are involved and the AFL just let it run. Same with ‘ANZAC Eve’ a big club can just pull something out of their rear end and the AFL grants it year on year. The season opener debate has already been done to death. But god forbid any smaller teams try to start something

Guarenteed - if we only have to play Geelong once, it will be down in sleepy hollow. Always is because they will never make Collingwood, Hawthorn, Carlton head down there and they need to play some Vic based teams at home (us, North, Saints, etc).
This is so true.

I actually went back and checked the last 10 years (excluding 2020 given all games were basically interstate) and in that time we have played at Kardinia Park every single year with the exception of 2013 and 2018. So in that time we played them 2 times in a season on four occasions and once in a season on 6 occasions, but of those 6, 4 of those were at KP.

So basically you can almost bet on the fact that the Dogs will have to play the Cats and most likely it will be at Kardinia Park and if we get to play them at Marvel, it will be in addition to our annual trip down the highway. It’s ridiculous how much we get this outcome and it’s exactly for the reasons you state, that Geelong have to have a minimum of 8 games down there and some of those have to be against Victorian clubs and that means us, North, Melb and StKilda most likely.

Given their record at home, it’s basically a schedule loss every year.

Won't happen imo.

Us v them has been the Peter McKellar Cup since 1993 making it the longest running charity match in the history of the comp.

That would clash with the RCHA so it wouldn't work.

When does the rest of the seasons fixture get released?

Going by when Round 1 was released I am guessing 3 am in the morning of the World Cup Soccer
