There’s far more intelligent discourse on BigFooty (once you discount the nuffies and trolls) than what you find on any accredited AFL™️ media.
Of course there is, but I don't know why you want me discounting everyone else

ground looks good, hope the coverage is good for tv viewing. some of those ad hoc setups for the preseason games were horrendous
I've been told there will be at least 8 camera locations around the ground including two on scissor lifts.

They are obviously excellent but again I question the bottom 10 players on Carlton’s list. I’m not convinced by their form so far and reserving judgment, though Walsh back is going to help a lot.

Carlton has been made to look better by the opposition they have faced so far. Their ball movement does not look convincing and if we bring the pressure we brought against the Dees and Collingwood we will get a lot of nice looks. They don't have the quality smalls that we have either and rely heavily on Curnow and McKay.

How's this for dribbling s**t
I’m assuming there’s been multiple mentions in the comments/replies that without Gather Round this weekend, we wouldn’t actually have any of these actual match ups, as Gather Round is in fact a new additional round that just happened to be inserted in to round 5 slot.

McKay and Curnow are tough matchups for any opponent, if possible I would like to see Harris left out and play as the 3rd tall so he is free to intercept... maybe Payne on McKay and one of Joyce/Gardiner on Curnow??

Yep, having Payne and Joyce is good value here. Harris was asked to mark McKay previously, but with Joyce and Payne we have a tall + good pace versions who can at least try and even the contest. Leaves Andrews to do what he does best, zone off and be the interceptor.

So Collingwood wouldn't have played St Kilda this year at all without gather round?

... I'm not a Briztoon defender by any stretch of the imagination, but it's fairly obvious what he meant.

I'd be pretty happy with Payne on McKay. McKay's tank has improved so will be interesting to see how we play him if he gets up the ground.

The Curnow matchup is interesting. I'd be happy to go how you suggest but be ready to switch Andrews back to him if he cuts loose. Maybe before he kicks 5 in 10 minutes ala Buddy at the SCG last year.

Yes, but as far as I know all 9 matchups are only happening once this season. So if not for Gather Round they still would have happened at some other stage of the season, just at the home ground of one of the two teams.

The vast, vast majority of Victorian supporters came to terms with and accepted and embraced the national league 30-35 years ago. Same can't be said for sections of the AFL™️ media, though; and they're the ones whose opinions get relayed around the country, fuelling 'Vics are idiots' sentiment elsewhere.

Suddenly it's not our home game any more

Funny too, that Adelaide had already announced they would be wearing a commemorative mostly black guernsey. If Carlton had won the toss, that could have been awkward. I generally don't go in for mindless AFL bashing, but they can be seriously ham-fisted at times. Might as well just call it Merch Round and be totally honest about it.

But yeah, also totally coincidental that the Roos will be able to use the Mt Barker Roos change rooms.

This is outrageous everyone knows our record at home is way better than away games.
I bet we get the changerooms on the right also.

I wonder if as an example - Collingwood play a Richmond/Essendon/Carlton at the MCG and it is a designated "away" game for the Pies, if they win is it counted as an away win in the statistics?
